  • Free pdf downloadable vibrato exercises are available here: sherylsmith.musicaneo.com/shee.... The exercises are based on my other vibrato video ( • Cello Vibrato Exercise... ).
    I had a very difficult, frustrating time learning vibrato. 6 months ago, I figured out what works for me. I am posting this video in the hope that it will help someone else, so they don't have to go suffer as I did!

    I thought I was the only one who sucked at learning vibrato. This is so comforting

    Hi phrederica. I just wanted to remark on what a very nice vibrato lesson you gave. I found your video quit by accident while looking up something else. I am a professional cellist for 35 years now, and have to say that looking at all the "cello lesson" videos out here on youtube done by professional cellists, YOURS is the best. You are to the point, no extra words or trying to sound arrogant or better than anybody. I will refer students to your videos! Than you so very much.

    Thank you for this wonderful vibrato lesson! I got it with your tips...as you mentioned I tried the up and down, polishing the string, could not get it. Thanks to you I just heard the beautiful sound that one gets with vibrato.
    I started playing at 60, will be 70 this November...I study hard every day. Now it will be that much better.

    This is the best cello vibrato lesson I have ever seen. It is a "where the rubber meets the road" so to speak. It really makes sense. Again thanks

    Good point in your video - vibrato is not learned in a day - that's the basic instruction missing in every vibrato video; the teacher should say - OK now practice this group of exercises every day for the next 3 years.

    Thanks for sharing...we don't get frustrated we divide our times and when we get tired we do other things and give it sooner a break...rather than becoming frustrated. Sure some say practice from zero to 5 to 30 minutes per day....and never over do it. Every piece of advice we need though. The issue is not to exhaust your arm and to keep your mind alert...because...you wont catch the notes where they need to be...however....if you treat it like a hobbie...you get the most hours in....like say...1 hour in day...and 15 minutes in the evening or night...even if you do two half hours then you'll be fine....and when you're first learning I think it's best to do it every day depending on the age...but 2 to 3 times per week is just fine especially if you have great memory or know how to review etc... Yah, all of that needs to be personalized according to peoples scheadule and how many hobbies they have and if its a past time, hobbie, or passion or for professional work... I love ABC....

      Did you know you can be trained to be a Music Instructor with ABC...not sure what the price is and what their requirements are....it was the thing when I was growing up.... I think she prefers you do it all on your own...and then get in contact with her...I wouldn't know you may want to reach out and call her or read her ABC's of Violin or Cello or Bass or Piano....Requirements etc.

    Replying to King Boo about my peg box. I have Posture Pegs, which are available at www.cellos2go.com, among other places. They are special pegs which replace your regular pegs (you can always switch back). For me, (I hold the cello rather more upright than most people), and this modification cured my neck pain!

    • @phrederica
      @phrederica  10 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I have a 3/4 1969 John Juzek cello. Why a 3/4 cello? I am a short adult, and struggled for years with a full size cello. I am so much more comfortable now! Cello playing shouldn't hurt. : - )

    There are some thread exercises...I find myself clutching often the instrument or pressing so hard on the strings my finger is numb all day...haha...so there are some thread and yarn exercises and even crochette exercises so students can actually regard and notice and be consciouse about their finger strength... Sure I think even broomstick instruments came out of that for teaching methodology in music.
