I wanna participate on this contest of comments. My opinion on these top 10 is: 10. Everyone is missing out on Gloom. Have one already. Its a Kanto Original. Its an IR. 9. Mew Galarian. Its a good looking Mew BUUUUT...yellow border...plus 151 Promo Mew is a thing and that Kid's Drawing Bubble Mew is overpriced. 8. Metal Card is a Metal Card. Don't think its a thing right now but it might be a thing in a few decades. So better take care of them metal cards. 7. Machoke IR. Just like Gloom. It its a Kanto Original just buy it if its cheap. I don't know why but I have not seen someone who thinks like me that SV IRs for Gen1 Pokemons will be a thing. Then again I rarely share this info cause all of them might spike. 6. Porygon Z looks nice, not 151 but if its cheap take it. 5. Tatsugiri is a glorified wallpaper/gift wrap. 4. Raboot, I am too old to even know him. 3. Lumineon, again too old to know it. 2. Kingdra, looks amazing but a lot of people might have it already cause its a promo card. 1. Infernape looks amazing. Maybe if it comes with a set its gonna be in demand like Raboot after a few decades. Can't go wrong with Kanto and this is the first time they come out in IRs with the new foil border.
feel like gloom should be much higher just because of the art, i luckily got one myself from 1 pack and will definetly never sell it since its just so beautifull! Also i think most of the chase cards from 151 will go up in a few years since it brought so many people back to pokemon.
Something about the Raboot IR just looks so perfect to me. The contrast between a fire type and the snow plus the playful nature of the card makes me love it
The Machoke or Machokes 151 is hugely underrated. Got one graded as a psa10 and I couldn’t believe the low pop. Even though it’s currently not expensive it’s one I love looking at.
Great content as always and an excellent example for having fun in the hobby with low budget. If you see something in a card that attracts you, it will also attract people in future. 2 examples. Iron Jugulis from Paradox Rift had some magic in it and Hoothoot from Astral Radiance brings a certain peace with it. What are your examples of cards that creat emotions?
I loved the Infernape card, but I had no idea how beautiful it was when I looked at a close-up picture. For some reason when I first saw it, it looked like it was him in a fireball type pose when actually it was his whole body, and the fire was from his hair I think lol. Great list for sure.
The topic of the video is so relatable for me currently! I've been picking up cards for $1-5 bucks when I love the art. I love a good bargain and I can't lose. If the card never rises I still have a card I enjoy looking at and if appreciates I got it for practically nothing. A Mew I picked up 11 years ago for $3 is worth about $230 today and I picked it up just because I loved the look
As I'm super new to the world of Pokemon TCG collecting, I got actually 2 questions. Here's the other one : - How should I care for my cards? Should I put them in a binder? Do all cards should get the "upside down sleeve + Top loader" treatment, any type of binder should I go for? Thank youuu!
I am really enjoying your content. My son, 12 years old, has recently discovered Pokemon collecting. Your videos have helped prep him for how he thinks about his hobby, and has really steered him clear of the major concern I had as a parent, chasing that dopamine hit with pack cracking. You have highlighted the need for balance between collecting, gambling with pack cracking, research. What are some strategies you other parents are using to ensure your kids have some fun opening packs but don't get sucked into constantly chasing that high? For me, I am encouraging him to consider saving some of his allowance for packs to open (because it is fun after all), some for a sealed product purchase to save as an investment, and some for card shows where he might be able to buy that chase card he's after. Anyway, keep up the great content Phillip! Love what you're doing here.
Great topic. As a mum who likes to collect Pokémon with her kids we often pick up the well priced singles. We will open a couple of packs of a new set for fun but then purchase their favourite cheap cards (makes their pocket money go further). It’s great to see quite a few of our cards in your list and some we’ve had our eye on. My favourite is Lumineon. 🇦🇺
I think the most important thing as a collector under a budget is to choose their favorite art. I value a lot cards like the Mew from Crown Zenith because there are multiple Pokemon in the same card. Also I appreciate the cards that combine in a same art, because they look cool in the binder.
I feel it’s great when there are cards later released to pair with earlier released cards. For example the Charmander promo, then stellar crown releases bulbasaur and squirtle both also with pidgeys featured in the art. I feel if they keep things like this going it’ll help the hobby and give more drive for collectors!
I love collecting cheap cards since I tend to go for artwork over pricing and so many great arts for this generation are so easy to access. I do think value is added with pricing but I also just enjoy the accessibility of these cheaper ones. These listed here are so amazing, and some other cards too are so great considering the pricing like Mantyke and joltik from paradox rift and grotle and mudsdale from Temporal forces. This generation has been amazing for me at least and I hope it's the same for everyone else.
I just started collecting about 3 weeks ago and have restricted myself to only Japanese. I love the way hiragana looks on the cards, and it helps me budget better being that there are less JPN cards floating around in California. As my infatuation with cards has grown, I've learned a valuable lesson that I am proud to share. Due to my restrictive collecting style, I am forced to look at the cards available and really enjoy the art and what the card has to offer to me as the collector, not just look for the most expensive "Chase card" available. Anyway I'm a couple pages into my first binder and am loving the community and collecting. If you have any more tips for a new buyer please let me know, I'd love to hear them!
I’m so happy that a good amount of Illustration Rares are actually really affordable. It just gives collectors on a budget a chance to acquire some absolutely gorgeous cards.
I love the artwork on this Gloom card. Why isn't more popular giving how beautiful it is? That Mew also. Such a dope card with beautiful artwork. I really hope the value goes up. The cards deserve it. (In my opinion.)
This was super helpful! I’ve been getting back into collecting and it's great to know that there are still some affordable options out there. What do you all think, are these under $10 cards good for long-term investment, or should we prioritize more expensive cards for potential growth? Also, what’s been your best find under $10 so far?
I just got back into collecting the beginning of September. I tried in 2017 but just got overwhelmed. I knew nothing about the 151 set. I bought a poster book on a whim and pulled the SIR Charizard. It brought me back to pulling the original Charizard 25 years ago.
Man me and my son have been ripping crown zenith and we started a collection getting the chase cards and getting really into it. For me I’m getting back into it but to him this is a brand new crazy world of art and pictures and he’s decided that his favorite Pokemon is gengar, but no matter how many packs we rip from other sets we can’t pull a gengar. 😵💫😵💫😵💫
@@acefstripeoh really? Okay cool I’ll give it a look! I have been buying quite a lot of Paradox Rift to start with. Do you collect for monetary value or just the card artwork you like etc?
@@tdog1826 I am about a year in and am collecting with my son (good advisor) but with an eye to sell later. My friend completed Paldea Evolved and i think the set has a lot of cool cards with that MagiKarp an excellent chase card.
I literally just bought the Infernape last week. - love it! And I have the Reboot firmly in my sights. Really enjoying picking up some of these cheap IRs, TGs and GGs from the last couple of years.
I love the raboot card from stellar crown. I pulled it in my first couple of packs too. The middle evolutions never get any love. My favorite has always been wartortle but Squirtle and Blastoise always get the love.
I think it’s important to keep in mind that if you’re buying with the intention of grading in the future (should their value go up), “near mint” on tcg player or eBay could be a PSA 7 and up. So personally, I’m looking into some of these underrated cards in a PSA 9, because some are relatively cheap. Just make sure you love the card though, because if the price doesn’t go up in the future you’ll at least have a card you love in great condition. Worst case scenario you can trade with other collectors at card shows!
Was heavily considering buying some crown zenith bundles for me and my fiancé's birthdays this month. Now I'm sold on the chance of getting the sleeping Mew!
If you look at Obsidian some of the cards went up..and they are still affordable. There are a lot of great cards out there to buy and hold and sell later tbh. Thanks for the video! Doing a budget challenge so I'm gonna buy some of these
Wow! Not going to lie I was expecting this list due to the nature of them being below $10 that the artwork was going to be poor... But damn that art is fantastic 🔥 I'm so excited that I'm getting back into the hobby because as someone who loves art I really appreciate Pokémon cards even more! When I was a kid it wasn't about the art at all and now it's crazy to just see the different styles, colours, backgrounds etc. I love it 😅
Raboot IR is my favorite, my roommate pulled it when we were opening packs together. Hard to say if SV lower value cards will rise in value compared to other past sets. I know some people (me included) think SV is underrated but i still don't think that it will do better than sword and shield. 151 is a great set that i would expect to be the best set in SV, however, I doubt it will match Evolving skies.
Honestly there’s so many AR’s that should be worth more like the Dondonzo from base set has such a cool looking art, the whole Baxcalibur line from Paldea Evolved has such a unique art style. There’s so many more.
@@hishamarafat7217 also kinda why I cherish the Solrock and lunatone in this series. Worth maybe a few dollars but man they look so good with the other mon with them.
@chiph7545 absolutely agree. Magmortar and electevile are also two awesome cards that look great together. Both having each other in the card. Cards like diancie and comfy, underrated arts for sure. And don't get me started on the deoyxs and latias cards. Absolute stunners!🔥
With the way that 151 UPCs have been exploding in price, I think that all of the 3 promos from that box will soon shoot up in price as well. The last few weeks have been crazy for 151.
Idc what anyone says. Buying singles is better than wasting all the money on packs to pull your Chase card. BTW, great list, and you've earned yourself a new sub brother.
I think "Pokémon Center" promos are really good to buy, especially cheaper ones like Ogerpon from Twiglight Masquerade. Also, I completely agree with the UPC promos. The 151 UPC promos are super cheap rn along with the Charizard UPC promos. The artwork is amazing on those cards, and the price hasnt really moved, but like you said, once stock drys up, they'll appreciate in value. It just depends on how long you're willing to wait and what your goal is. I think another key thing to mention is that you'll never really lose money on special art cards, so its kinda risk free if you're not spending ridiculous amounts on them.
Crown Zenith and 151 are the coolest sets ever created in my opinion. The pull rates and beautiful artwork is just awesome and that’s when I started collecting these cards. I’ll never go back to sports cards collecting😂😂 Love you videos man!
Valuable Discussion! - Do you think with all of the new gamefreak leaks we could possibly “see into the future” with how the games play out and then that would cross over to the tcg to see which pokemon in the sets would boom?
As a new youtuber I believe the best way to move forward is create content that truly connects with your audience. That's why I value your videos so much! You always give such valuable advice and I have been following all of it!🙂 Thank you!
Solid list brother. Luckily I have all these cards and I agree. The artworks in general from S&V are amazing. I love them more than S&SH era personally.
Speaking historically if your budget is set at $10 buy a card within that budget that is near mint minimum, stretching to a $15 card that you can get at deal because it might have small damage edgewear etc. Maybe people disagree but raw cards value will always be in part based on there potential to get a psa 10 so buy a raw card that could have a potential to grade well
Hot take. PokeRev and Leon started the endless one upping their last video problem and have nothing left to open after cracking first edition base set packs. Phillips Collectibles is currently the best Pokemon based channel there is because you’re purely informative but still fun and have the same passion for cards that we have.
Videos like this is great! We all want cool cards, but the "best" cards are always so expensive. The cards in this video is actually affordable, and yet so awesome 🤩 I have pulled multiple of these cards, and I thought they were really cool looking !
I'm happy I started collecting cards with 151 set :) Now I can worry how to get more money to finish Crown Zenith and get new evolutions set in January :p
That Pikachu is dope! I don't know much about PTCG investing, but I do believe that any card related to Pikachu and/or Charizard will definitely be in a good price.
I feel like cards that could be going up in price are going to be Pokemon that will have an emphasis in Legends ZA especially once the hype of the game really starts. Like Greninja and Zygardge or Pokemon receiving new megas or even older mega Pokemon
Twilight masquerade is such a great set, between a few of the cards in this list, the eevee and greninja with the hard pull rates I wonder if it could be looked back upon as one of the best SV era sets. I’m honestly also a big fan of SV Drowzee IR, that card is so unique and it being a Gen 1 from a popular artist is even better, and I think it’s also still under 10?
Its funny cuz all the cards you showed are on my watchlist or in my collection as right now i think these illustration rares will be really sought after in the future.
Wow Philip, its crazy how generous you are with these giveaways! I love art rares and especially the drowzee one. I think the art is really cool and it reminds me of when i was little and i used to have a little sip of wine with my cousin and act like our vision looked like that, all weird and a bit distorted. I love the vids and i think it would be great to meet you one day:)
Great video! Spot on 🔥 Gloom is really undervalued hey?! For me it’s as good as magikarp, colors just pop out of the card, as it’s a gen 1, it should be way more expensive. I’m glad it’s not though 😂 When you said that Crown Zenith is fun to open, have you opened Vstar Universe??? I recently did and got hooked up by the set after the first box. I’m not sure if I recommend it 😂🤦 now I’m chasing that master set 😅
Dont know for the rest of the world, but in Brasil its cheaper buy cards from Japan( literally on the other side of the world ) than buying Portuguese Cards. Just crazy
Look out for
What was your favourite from this list?
I'd say the Infernape. I'm always a sucker for fire starter pokemon lol
I have a binder where I’m trying to collect all the starters, so definitely the Raboot to go in there!
The horsea promo! I think it’s gorgeous and people will love it and not want to buy the collection set.
Love the Tatsugiri! It gives me Magicarp and Wailord vibes
I want it soooo bad
I have magicarp and wailord, thinking about adding it to my collection
The magicarp one is way better
True
It is such a good card
I think that if they did the whole evolution line for Infernape in that art style as illustration rares there would probably be more demand for it

Beautiful Artwork 🖼️
I'm happy I started collecting cards with 151 set :) Now I can worry how to get more money to finish Crown Zenith and get new evolutions set in January :p
I’ve been loving these videos, thank you!
I got the new Pickachu Sar from Super Electric Breaker. First JPN pokemon booster box!!!! I sent it to grade it!!
There's actually Arceus V and Arceus VSTAR metal cards as well!
Pick what you love. Love what you pull. Best advice I ever received
Love your videos brother 💪🏽
Illustration rares definitely have room to grow
Twilight masquerade is such a great set, between a few of the cards in this list, the eevee and greninja with the hard pull rates I wonder if it could be looked back upon as one of the best SV era sets.
I’m honestly also a big fan of SV Drowzee IR, that card is so unique and it being a Gen 1 from a popular artist is even better, and I think it’s also still under 10?
I’m pretty sure all AR from 151 will slowly rise pretty consistently in the future
hot take : 151 Charizard isn't worth 6 to 700 dollars !
Don't forget the Metal Arceus card from the Arceus box 😉
Its funny cuz all the cards you showed are on my watchlist or in my collection as right now i think these illustration rares will be really sought after in the future.
Glooooom is the best! 🤠
I got a couple of these cards in my collection!
That card is gorgeous :o
I’m a bit of a sucker for Mew so that was an obvious one for me.
Great video! Spot on 🔥 Gloom is really undervalued hey?! For me it’s as good as magikarp, colors just pop out of the card, as it’s a gen 1, it should be way more expensive. I’m glad it’s not though 😂
When you said that Crown Zenith is fun to open, have you opened Vstar Universe??? I recently did and got hooked up by the set after the first box. I’m not sure if I recommend it 😂🤦 now I’m chasing that master set 😅
Dont know for the rest of the world, but in Brasil its cheaper buy cards from Japan( literally on the other side of the world ) than buying Portuguese Cards. Just crazy
Also the biggest Japanese diaspora in the world!
Am I the only one who loves the Mr.Mime IR from 151? The color✨ the art✨ and the idea of Mr. Mime playing imagine chess is just *chefs kiss*
I just opened a 151 upc and now I’m definitely thinking of grading my metal mew. I also pulled that machoke IR from my box 😂
