My theory has always been that Sony had no idea Spider-Man was a comic book character. They just assumed it was a movie they did back in 2002. So they decided to remake that, but there was one comic fan who suggested peter make his web shooter, Gwen Stacy be the love interest etc etc
Actually Gwen Stacy is SpiderMan’s first love interest not Mary Jane ,Mary Jane was actually set up to be Gwen’s competition, sounds like the 2002 SpiderMan didn’t read the comics not the Sony version.

Remember Marvel and Sony had reached a deal to include the Oscorp building from The Amazing Spider-Man in the NYC skyline in The Avengers but it was too late to include it by the time they reached a deal. So the reason why all those cranes are there technically is rebuilding after the Battle Of New York.

I always thought that the reason Spider-man is more of a smartass and Perter is is because of the mask and he can finally say the thing that he wouldn't as spider-man.
Spiderman worked because it made sure that the moral was clear that anyone can be spider man But amazing Spiderman told us that your father needs to be a very famous and intelligent scientist who fucking made a radioactive spider for his son and he needs to make sure that he also recorded it about what he should do. So yeah everyone got the point right!
YES! I always hated that part of the TASM movies. It's like saying that his father gave Peter his powers and opportunity as a superhero. Anyone can be Spider-man. It may not be literal but it just means that anyone can be a hero in their own ways. Powers or no powers.
As seen in tasm 2, those spiders were being used because they can heal themselves, oscorp wanted to find a way to apply that to humans, and in the process, Richard Parker made a startling discovery which prompted him to disappear. Now how does that disprove your opinion? Well, let me explain. Since Richard's disappearance, oscorp has been tinkering with cross species genetics, as seen in tasm. Skipping the obvious stuff like the lizard and shit, the spiders were kept alive and then Peter gets bitten and doesn't seek medical attention. Meaning that oscorp was still working with the spiders, but their work wasn't ready. But what does this have to do with Peter? Nothing. Here's why. Oscorp made it a point to keep anything related to his father's work secret. So Peter is just a kid with questions about his folks. So when he finds that his pops worked at oscorp, he follows the bread crumbs, and yeah spider bite happens. This doesn't show that you have to be the child of uber cool scientist to be spider man because the huge plan was to keep specifically him away from this. Why? Here's why. "Spider man" is just the cross species oscorp was planning for, they just weren't ready. Peter's courage and his journey throughout the movie is what makes him a hero. In Tobey version, it's an inspirational story about how anyone could be spider man. In this darker version, spider man is really just a cross species that work. It's just an oscorp plan, nothing more than just an experiment. In this world Peter is not special, he's just an experiment. Let's say Peter never found that his father worked at oscorp. Well, eventually oscorp would've perfected the spider plans and made spiderman and scientific breakthrough. Not a hero, just an over the counter drug. To sum up, it sucks. It's not inspirational, it's just bleak and unnecessarily sad, but it's real. Spider man is fun because he seems special, but in reality no one is. And it's a truth we need to accept. This version of spider man does. The truth in this movie is that no one is special, the lesson is that we don't have to be. We have our flaws and our losses, but if we can overcome it we could be better than special, we could be happy. Isn't that what spider man is all about? In the end, it doesn't teach us that you have to be someone specific to be spider man, it teaches us that we have to greater than what we suffer to be spider man.
@@isaiahbarton7507 That's what makes TASM's version sucky. They overcomplicated the origin story. A Spider-man movie can be dark, sure. But why overcomplicate the origin? Spider-man is relatable to his audience. He is not like those other superheroes that are rich or born with powers. Spider-man is fun because he is relatable. Relatable in a sense that his problems are what we experience daily. School problems, love life issues, small wage earnings, etc. Look at what they did with Tobey's version. Simple yet relatable and fun. That's why we love it. MCU took a different route without showing the origin but it's fine since we know it already but we saw what we experienced when we were in school as awkward teenagers. It's fun.
@@amon8977 there was more to it than just those two movies. There was sinister six plans, and other oscorp stuff. Tobey was simple because it was just spider man and friends. Tasm was going to dive much further, creating a bigger world. Yes it's quite complicated, but it would have covered it's tracks and delivered. Maybe in over complicating the origins was to ensure that it's a different incarnation, not a lazy remake. Like the dark knight, there was so much more to that origin than other batman. They could've simply done a much similar origin as Tobey, but where's the individuality? Plus, the paradigm for superheroes is changing, not just movies, as a whole. The demand for complicated stories is growing. Honestly, this can be compared to daredevil series. This was made to be a much bigger world.

Personally i really love the amazing spider man because it did teach me a few morals, one of them was 'to never lose hope' now there were a few mistakes with most of the characters scripts and tbh it is forgiveable because the amount of effort they put into the visuals. Andrew garfield is also a very humble guy and had so much potential. In my opinion TASM2 is better than far from home but tom holland is a good actor and so is tobey maguire. sam raimi crushed that film vv good :). it would b cool if andrew garfield could come back in the sony universe because tasm3 couldve fixed the film series. anyways it was a rlly good series i'll miss deeply

Toby nailed his character of Peter Parker and Spiderman to perfection and was born for the role just like Christian Bale was for Batman and Jason Mamoa for AquaMan and many more such amazing actors who nailed their character roles to perfection... Amazing Spiderman has some best fight scenes and CGI and acceptable plot but the acting didn't touch the fans and give us the feels.
I feel Toby’s got the Peter Parker part great, Andrew got the Spider-Man part right, for me Spider-Man has to talk, has witty one liner while fighting the villain and toby’s didn’t quite did any of that, way too serious
I like the self confident spiderman played by Garfield. Emma Gwen was awesome too. Does anyone else thinks the actors are backwards? like Garfield looks young but plays a seemingly more adult spiderman. While Toby looks old but plays an apparently 17yo spiderman.
The extra humor in this episode was fantastic, especially the extended cutaway to the house in the forest. I always enjoy your videos but this one had me laughing out loud like three times! Keep it up!
Watching this made me realized that each of the spider man trilogy movies had a big group of people cheering or helping spider man and the amount of respect they had for their hero is amazing it makes me wanna tear up. Edit: oh yeah which reminds me, even though the crain thingy was random and unnecessary for TASM. The boat coming in conveniently for the children was also random lol.
My god your missing the point dumbass. We was wounded and when he saw the cranes, that gave him hope to survive because all the others were helping him.
The news woman didn't know Spider-Man was heading to Oscorp because the script said so. She knew because the Lizard was at Oscorp, and Spider-Man was clearly heading in the direction of Oscorp. Not in that particular shot, but considering Spider-Man seemed to be moving in the direction of Oscorp, Oscorp was evacuated, and the Lizard was inside of Oscorp at the time, it's not that hard to put the pieces together. Also, the point of the cranes was so Spider-Man could swing, and didn't have to wall-run. This movie was going in a more realistic direction, and Spider-Man can't do his classic swinging by shooting webs onto the side of buildings. There are a couple scenes that break that rule, but that was still the intention.
Your video essays are a thing of beauty! Going over the Spider-Man scene brought a tear to my eye. Then going over the amazing Spider-Man scene had me laughing my ass off. I’m glad you do what you do!
In my opinion, I liked the Amazing Spider-Man than Spider-Man, you just don't Realize it, had Gwen in it, and that was better than started out with Mary Jane. They could have worked their way to Mary Jane. In the narration of Tobie McGuire's Spider-Man, he was not doing it for New York he was all about M.J. plus they made him to sappy. At least Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man was more of the Wise ass,and they made him move more like a spider. I know your opinion is way different then my, and I have to respect it. Just because you find things lame, I find things interesting..
It is very cool, that everyone encourages other people to talk about their feelings and opinions on their favorite comic book characters, wether it is in the comic books, television series or movies..

All right, I think I've done it, I think I've finally made it through one day without hearing any comparisons between- HERE'S WHY ONE SPIDER-MAN MOVIE IS BETTER THAN THE OTHER God damn it...
The crane scene shows that heroes don't need to have powers. It's the people doing what they can do to help others. A great power brings great responsability.
The difference between Tobey and Andrew's Spiderman is that Tobey's was able to leave the woman he loved so as not to put her at risk and Spiderman 2 Peter kept promising that promise and in the end MJ was the one who decided to be with him but of your own free will
I mostly lurk but just had to tell you I really enjoy your videos and this video in particular. Your mixture of analysis and humor works so well that I feel I can consistently depend on your content. Keep up the great work and leave my mom out if this.
To me Toby had Peters persona but Andrew had Spider-Man's persona with the smart lipped smack talking, that those who grew up reading Spider-Man in the 60's know that's what him and Ben Grimm of the Fantastic Four is famous for. Those two would talk about your mother while giving you a beat down, that was the only thing that threw me off with Toby's portrayal, even the MTV cartoon had him talking smack cause that's one of Spidey's main parts of his persona.
Yeah, but just because it works in the comics, doesn’t mean it’s going to work on screen. Raimi’s action scenes don’t really call for quippy one liners, and anytime there is, it’s dorky like the established character in those films is. In these movies, while there are some genuinely good quips, I think the lizard fight has the quips utilised well, but for a majority of the movie and in TASM 2, Peter’s just a bit of douche. Which isn’t spidey. Yeah he quips, but he doesn’t just let innocent people die to tell his joke, the guy’s a superhero not a Stand up comedian. Was he hoping that the Rhino would feel so roasted that he’d stop the truck and get out to rethink his dodgy life choices? I feel like people jump on the quips far too much, but comics back in the day were filled with pointless dialogue, that works for comics because you read it. A film is a visual treat, if you can show something about your character without saying a word, then do it. Raimi gets this as a filmmaker, Tobey doesn’t need to quip during his final battles, and that usually signals to the audience that the situation is being taken seriously. And when he does quip in a fight, it shows he’s a bit more relaxed, like when Harry saves him in 3, he has a small quip after it, but it’s there to get us to smile at these two friends fighting side by side. Probably a longer comment than needed, but anyway the point is, Quips doesn’t equal great Spider-Man.
i liked how the amazing spider man dug into the whole oscorp thing and wish that the movies had been better so we could uncover more about oscorp and his parents death
@@ttudor3746 nah, he is too cool for peter, Tobey is a better dork, same with Tom holland. I agree he is the best spiderman but peter isn't supposed to be cool when he isn't spiderman, that's what he missed.

That's not Peter Parker that's the guy every girl wants to be with but as spiderman it's almost opposite, Andrew is the best but shitty movies, Tobey is passable with great movies, Tom is gud with average movies and top notch cgi.
Algorithm be praised! To me ASM was a nice popcorn movie that I forgot about after we saw it, it's details like this that explain why. Raimi Spiderman still holds up today and felt like a Spidey comic come to life....Although I'm still not over Spidery be bopping and skatting all over the place in the 3rd one.
Issues or Tropes with the Raimi Movies that I personally find kinda untrue- 1) MJ being a Damsel in distress- Somewhat true, but she was a living breathing character, and actually stood up for herself in certain situations. Remember, that she came from a Broken home and it's fine to be relying on a particular heroic figure. 2) Goblin Suit- I like it a lot, but u can understand some people not liking it, and I can see that it is a little "Power Rangery". But it's still better than what they initially had in mind. 8 year old Me bever minded it back in 2002, it looked sick af! The green did have a Purple sheen to it. It was like the colour coat that was popular amoung Import Tuner guys back then. There's an argument that they should have given him a military themed or a distressed cloak, but that would feel Outta character. 3) Venom being bad- Also disagree. Venom was pretty good and well-done, considering how forced and unwanted Sam felt about him. The Symbiote animation was so good, Venom 2018 can't even hold a candle against it. 4) Eddie being a turn-off- I liked Topher Grace as Eddie. I think it was a perfect contrast to Peter. Rather than being a Buff, Punkish, cocky Guy, he was more of a Smooth, Overconfident, Fast-talker. Kinda the opposite of Peter. I liked Eddie up until the Symbiote Takeover. 5) Spidey Suit looking old- Just shut up. It looks extremely beautiful, and it still is my Spidey Suit even after all these years. That would be the only suit which will be considered 'Vintage' in a couple decades. 6) Organic Webs- I actually didn't mind it at all. Of course, I was a kid so I didn't care much about these things. The only reliable Spidey media I had was the 1994 Animated Series that was dubbed and telecasted in my country since 1999. That's where I one of Spidey having Web-Shooters. We had Spidey comics, but they weren't organised properly, since the Comics were Printed by a company who collaborated with Marvel, DC etc. See "Gotham Comics" 7) The Black Suit- Okay, this is where I'm at 50-50. I like the one they used in the movie, but it isn't even a competition compared to the Classic Black Suit. They could have done something like 2-tone colours (like they used with Goblin) maybe a Black with Purple or Blue Highlights. 8) CGI- I think it was pretty brilliant, especially everything in Spider-Man 3 (The Sand and Symbiote Physics). There were some occasional duds, but apart from that it was great. Just check out the Burnin Apartment Fight Scene from the First one (2002). The Scenes here Spidey dodges the Pumpkin Blades is entirely CG. I could never make it out. I ways thought a person was dodging some projectiles in slow motion. 9) Relationship between MJ and Peter- I think it rather mature, along with the tone of those films. They simply weren't just Superhero Movies, they taught life lessons too. TASM series was pretty much teenage fantastic fan-fic. 10) Aunt May- Rosemary Harris was a natural in her role. She was very Motherly and always full of wisdom. That's what I want an Aunt to be. Aunt May from TASM was Bland, and the one from Tom Holland makes me want to stuff her like a Thanksgiving Turkey. Not exactly the appropriate emotion for that character. 11) The implied Rp Scene in Spider-Man 2002- Not many people talk about it, but a bunch of my friends do. It's a little creepy to think about it, and I always feel slight discomfort watching that scene as well as the fight. Spidey and MJ share the Classic Up-side Down Kiss within 3 minutes of the Scene. Don't get me wrong, that kiss is a beautiful moment on its own, but just a little uneasy compared how MJ almost got Rped had Peter not happen to change two damn busses just to meet her. 12) The Uncle Ben Killer retcon- This didn't bother me back in 2007, I even got shocked to find it. But after a while, I started feeling weirded out with it. Uncle Ben's death is too Classic, and I realised they probably did that to make Sandman feel more substantial, but it adds in a movie that already had too much going on already. Still, I loved Thomas Haden Church as Sandman.
I disagree, the crane scene symbolises positive conciquences from Peters heroic actions and shows Peter the value of acting selflessly. I think it ties in very nicely with peters arc in the movie where he goes from being the victim being bullied by flash, then becomes the bully by seeking vengeance on the car thief. When finally in the bridge scene after saving the boy Peter see's the father and his son reunite, and he realises that he will never have this moment between him and ben, and that it is his responsibility to act selflessly. After all it was selfishness and being vengeful that got ben killed in the first place back when the store was getting robbed.
No dude, the crane scene is obviously non-sense, there is no arc in the movie. ~sarcasm Its so retarded that ppl just throw off the whole movie points and reasons away just to make a single point to prove that one is better than the other one.
@@xshadowwreckerx7561 I don't think im biased here, i really like both movies, and i love all spiderman ones, even the third movie from the trilogy. I just don't blind myself and throw every argument out of the window because i prefer one thing over the other. My fav spidermans are the cartoon Spectacular one and the MCU one. But i love what the other offers, and i try to know the mistakes too. Imo, Amazing 2 is the only one that is kinda meh on the plot, but the visuals of the movie are still incredible. I can be ok with ppl just liking something more than something else, but again, throwing the whole thing out and not considering its good parts is not a good view to have imo.
Wow the 2 story is so similar......crazy right.....they seem to be the same capharacter story pff incredible.....(when a director finishes ideas right)
I think the Raimi films treated the people of New York much better in general. In the Amazing Spider-Man the cop shoots Spidey in the leg, and then in the Amazing Spider-Man 2 the citizens end up egging Electro on while Spider-Man is trying to diffuse the situation. Sam Raimi has these people assisting Spider-Man however they can by being backup, or even telling Doc Ock that he'll have to get through all of them first. Point is that one of them portrays them as a helpful part of the story, while the other has them being often more harm than help!
My favorite villains are ones that don’t have a world ender plan. Like 02 goblin and Heath Ledger Joker. Way more suspense. If it’s a world ender, you know already the hero is going to win.

I never liked Spider-Man 1's Aspect Ratio (1.85:1) and was glad that they went with the scope aspect ratio (2.39:1) for the sequels.
@@ericdxfan511 That's fair since the aspect ratio in the sequel is the convention, but I preferred the original because it made the comic-book styled cinematography feel even more comic-booky. To me it felt like panels coming to life instead of a movie
The Battle of New York? You mean the Avengers' Battle of New York? But TASM was not part of the MCU. 🤔
@@amon8977 Thats what Jordan is saying. Sony & Marvel had made a deal in 2012 to include TASM Spider-Man into Marvel with little baby steps. I always thought that the reason Spider-man is more of a smartass and Perter is is because of the mask and he can finally say the thing that he wouldn't as spider-man.
Spiderman worked because it made sure that the moral was clear that anyone can be spider man
But amazing Spiderman told us that your father needs to be a very famous and intelligent scientist who fucking made a radioactive spider for his son and he needs to make sure that he also recorded it about what he should do.
Short version: in this world "spider man" is just a cross species plan that wasn't ready.
Long version coming up!

I love the break to soul search for the meaning of Amazing Spider-Man. That had me cracking up!
and it was a moment.
Because Rami and McGuire are Amazing.
In SM2 they really ramped up on the choice thing and it was glorious...really love that movie

Agree. Spidey once even said to Doc Ock that he is a villain that fight like a nerd.

Love this comparison and detailed analysis!
Yeah you're right, Raimi Spider-Man made us feel included. Now that's what I call teamwork!
Issues or Tropes with the Raimi Movies that I personally find kinda untrue-
1) MJ being a Damsel in distress- Somewhat true, but she was a living breathing character, and actually stood up for herself in certain situations.
See "Gotham Comics"
7) The Black Suit- Okay, this is where I'm at 50-50.
I honestly agree with your idea on aunt may as a character
Phantom Thief I honestly never understood the hate for Aunt May in the Raimi movies.
in that scene, it was meant to inspire peter for him to move on and even though he's hurt, he will still save people
"With great power comes great responsibility"
The production level on these are definitely stepping up. Nice

Anyone else watching this and hearing glaDOS in their head saying “he’s saying what we’re all thinking”
I think timing played a part in it. The first movie was crazy because they finally could make the CGI look believable. We were all awestruck.
Of course the music was good - it was James Horner. May he RIP
My feelings exactly.
Dude that dog scared the life out of me 🤣 it's like 3am and I have headphones on and im like half asleep and it sounded so real like next to me
"now lets take a look at these films many many similarities." hmmm yes 2 films about the same character are similar, never would have guessed.
My favorite villains are ones that don’t have a world ender plan. Like 02 goblin and Heath Ledger Joker. Way more suspense. If it’s a world ender, you know already the hero is going to win.
toby is more relatable
This channel always gets recommended to me and I always have the greatest of times watching the videos. So I made the right choice to finally subscribe! Congrats on the great content!
I really feel like you just want the amazing spiderman to be like the first one.
Love the bit from Dancing With Wolves towards the end.
I never completed watching the amazing spider man, every time I try to complete it, it just get boring after 5 minutes..
Maybe thats why you don't like it.
Bias is a huge thing.

Spider-Man 2 is my favorite movie of all time.
The first Spider-Man was always a childhood favorite.
However, The Amazing Spider-Man is heavily underrated in my book.
I actually really like the Amazing Spider-Man, not that anyone asked, but i guess I just wanted to say it
Bro, my man here should be a director. The guy could make a real good movie!
