Ingrid I am THRILLED to have discovered your videos. I am planning on attempting my thru-hike next April and found virtually no information online from female hikers. It is such a peace-of-mind to have found someone to give me advice coming from a fellow young, female hiker. It really leaves me with the hope that if you could do it, I can too! I was hoping you could give some information on hygiene as a woman on the trail..(monthly visits, did you use a diva cup, hair, using/not using toilet paper or pee rags) Thank you SO much for these videos and keep 'em coming! :)
+Kali Killingsworth Hi Kali! Welcome to the channel! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and of course YOU can do it! It's all about mindset, truly. I know most people immediately think of the 2,663 miles as a physical test, but it's really more of a mental. If you want to do it, you can do it! :) And yes, I will try and make a female specific video and warn all the guys not to watch! haha
It's so helpful that you include the minor details & examples, so much clarity when a lot of other videos assume everyone's experienced. Also, are there any things you wish you knew about the trail before taking it on? Stuff that you really didn't anticipate beforehand?
+Amber Osland I didn't anticipate much of anything before, except that I knew it wouldn't be all rainbows all the time! haha Looking back now, I don't really regret anything I knew or didn't know before the trail. Everything worked out and I made it Canada. Best feeling ever! ha
I LOVE your videos!! You are giving vital important information that is hard to find about hiking the PCT. These videos about resupply have already changed the habits of 20,000 future PCT hikers... 1) Could you comment about pack weight while on the PCT? For example, how much weight is too much? My guess is 33 pounds... 2) Does carrying a pack become easier at the 500 mile mark because you have been backingpacking for so long? My guess is yes but up to a point....3) Is it worth it to spend money and buy super-light backpacking gear or no? I say no but I want your opinion.
Thanks for the video. Lactose Intolerant and nut allergies, plus I prefer to eat healthy. So shipping will be better it sounds like. Thanks for bringing up so many different issues with the logistics issues.
Hi Ingrid, do you have a list of like... the top 5 places where it really just was a huge pain to resupply at a grocery store there, or too expensive, where you would have been better off just sending yourself a resupply box?
thanks for the insight Ingrid. Been gathering the collective TH-cam knowledge on thru hiking the last few months. Would really like to do either PCT or AT within the next 2 years. I feel like doing the resupply boxes only would be a logistic headache. Lot of what ifs involved (not that there aren't with resupplying in trail towns but I feel like more so with boxes?) Anyways thanks again. I'll be following along. Been enjoying the content thus far!
+ChrisGoesOutdoors That's so exciting! If you have any specific questions about anything, don't hesitate to ask. I didn't want to repeatedly say what a hassle resupply boxes were because I am sure there are some people that were super organized and did all of their packaging before they left for the trail and they loved it...BUT I'm not one of those people and my cravings and appetite changed so much that I reallly enjoyed shopping in stores for my food.
+Away With Ingrid I certainly will keep you on speed dial for what I am sure will be a million questions haha. Ya I couldn't imagine trying to predict what I would want to be eating for months in advance. Tastes certainly change especially eating the same stuff all the time. While I would trust my own packing and organizing ability, I certainly agree with you on not wanting to rely on others shipping stuff out.
Thanks so much! This is very helpful!!! Question for you and maybe you can include in a upcoming video? Do you have a list of locations you sent your resupplies? You mention there's certain town that were more expensive, I'm wondering off the top of your head, you can remember what cities those were? All the list I've found were general list that include all locations not specifics on each of those places. What ever info you have would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks so much Ingrid for all the great tips!!! 😀
+Tania Molina Hey Tania! Thanks for the questions! Yes, I do have information about that. I'll be sure and include where to look and get those specific details about each resupply point in the next video!
+Kevin Graham no more than 10 total. I'll cover how/why I sent the resupply boxes at the times that I did in an upcoming video. Thanks for the question!
+away with Ingrid I am truly enjoying your PCT videos! I hiked 700 miles on theAT last year, and I'm leaving for Washington DC the 3rd of May, and hitting the Trail on the 5th, I've been catching myself watching your PCT videos as much as any of the AT ones, lol. anyways, keep the information coming! I wish I'd have found stuff like this before I went on my first long distance Hike. hi F you have any interest in keeping up with an AT thru hike ID be honored if you added me at fb.com/PlatypusHiker. Wish me luck..
