How to do a Proper WARM UP

  • In this video I explain how to warm up properly.
It is important to remember that the whole point of a warm up is to get the blood flowing to the muscles and to let the synovial fluid spread in the joints.
The perfect recipe for INJURY is working out when you're cold, not warmed up, early in the morning, and starting with strenuous exercise.
Do the opposite for a good warm up.

Keys to warm up (According to the video)
1- Get blood flowing to the muscles
2- Do not put alot of pressure on joints
3- Do not *passively* stretch (not recommended)
    4-Start with easy exercises

I like your advice Paul. I've had similar experiences like yours. I was hanging out with some people and hadn't done anything for about two days, no warm up or anything, and I got down on the ground and started walking on my hands, stopped and held a handstand, and when I hopped off of my right arm the shoulder muscle twisted and the joint popped and any kind of handstand variation was a big no for about four days.

Pavel, first of all thanks for all your ur amazing video tutorials, it is realy good to watch ur videos and I am learning a lot of things I never imagined I could with 45 years old and 187lbs. It has been 4 moths I am training calesthenics and I did my first 360 u can not imagine how happy I was. The point is, I always go to my workout riding my bike, from my home to the place I do my workout is about 9mi, I think I do not need anymore warm up, do I? Streching u recommend after the workout?

I lost 30 pounds after breaking up with my gf and I couldnt get them back, then I started to do pull ups and push ups, and then I saw your vids and I started to gain weight and muscles for real. Now I'm almost back to my weight but this time with muscles. I have a request, could you please upload a vid for butt exercises and Im not joking, Im serious, would you please? thx a lot

Rest it dude, i had a similar pain in my right chest if i squeezed or tensed the muscle, it really nipped! I continued working out and it got worse over the weeks. I stopped all upper body exercise for a week and it sorted itself out. Working it while its sore will only make it worse.

Hey Paul, you should try a 100 pull up, 200 push up challenge. Do pull ups and when you get tired drop down and do push ups and when you get tired again do more pull ups, then push ups, until you hit 100 and 200. I watched one guy do it, it took him about 5 minutes. It seems like it would be a crazy workout.

Hey Paul, have you ever had any negative experiences where someone has tried to kick you off the playground for being too old? I'm only 17 and I've recently started doing bodyweight exercises so when I went to chinups at the park today (I was the only one there) a crazy old guy screamed at me to get off. I'm not sure whether this is typical for someone of my age or whether I just came across someone who was mentally ill. I won't be coming back to that same park again.

Do anything you can to cut down body fat. Sprinting, jogging, punching mits, swimming, etc. Along with that, you want to pair it up with a decent enough diet so that work does not go to waste.

  • @Spunkalish

That sounds like a very high intensity cardio workout. The strength needed to pull off that challenge wouldn't be very high. Doing slow push ups (down for 5, hold for 5, up for 5 for example) and/or push ups with that number of reps would be a feat.

Shoulder injuries are the most common workout injuries I think, and I wouldn't recommend for you to do pull ups behind your back. Unless your shoulders are extremely flexible, this could cause "increase your risk for shoulder impingement syndrome-a painful condition in which the muscles or tendons of your rotator cuff become entrapped in your shoulder joint."
