Summary: 1 in 4 Americans thinks NASA's budget should be reduced. I feel this stems from misunderstandings like how much NASA actually gets in the first place. I tried to shed some light on some of the work NASA does from my personal experience to make a case for why NASA is one of the best investments we make with our tax dollars.

The biggest issue I have with people saying "why are we funding NASA when we still have issues with homelessness etc..." is that they have no intention of funding solutions to those issues. They just want to defund nasa

My dad spent 20+ years in the space program. I'm not even sure he has a photo of him. Lots of classified tech, and strict clean room regulations.

I think its because its with him and the rover he worked on so he extremely proud of it
You know they really cant take that many pictures cuz for safety reasons and anyway they prob dont want to show everybody what they are working on and stuff like that

@Pourya becouse im an engineer and understand the mathematics involved. We've done scientific experiments before proving this theory. If you truly cared about knowing the truth, you should have concentrated in high school science and mathematics instead of dismissing it as a subject you would never use in real life.

With the technology of SMAP opening like a origami and seeing it in JWST, the DART project and all the things that has happened really excites me about NASA and Space exploration. And nothing beats you explaining about space and science!

I am not even American and it pisses me to hear from Americans "blablabla we should not spend money on nasa".. I wish MY country spent that money on knowledge and scientific research. People are so badly used to the idea that something is only worth if it means visible money in return...

I wish Mark was around when I was younger! I liked science as a kid, but having someone like him who is passionate about science , charismatic and presents knowledge and experience in such a thrilling but also silly way. He captures our minds and sparks creativity in a modern setting. I have always agreed, NASA should have more funding! There is so much to explore and learn out there. I have been hoping in my lifetime I will get to watch the first mission to Mars, just like our parents and grandparents did in the 60's 🌕👨🚀🔭

Have you looked at the stuff that NASA is responsible for? SpaceX is taking already established technologies and making them better. But, without NASA's original efforts SpaceX wouldn't be around today. I hate government spending, but acknowledge that governments can afford to not make money on an endeavor, so NASA might hit a lot of dead ends, but some of those unexplored roads will lead to things like Velcro or memory foam. These are things that profit driven companies might not have ever discovered since a profitable company needs to make money... and it only makes sense that they would invest in items they can market and make profit from.

If anything, I think NASA's budget should be increased. Most people don't realize how many things they use daily, that originated from space. It pushes us to develop new materials and technologies that will eventually end up in our own hands.

I love this video, not only because it highlights how NASA needs a budget INCREASE, but how NASA has been able to get by for years with just that half a penny. If we gave NASA just a little more, bring it up to maybe a full penny and a bit more, imagine what we could do. I'm looking at NASA for a career in about 10 years time or so (im only in high school rn lol), and mark rober was one of the people who showed me how cool being a soace engineer is. Thanks for the inspiration, Mark!

Does Mark have a TedTalk? This whole video is a brilliant piece of writing, editing, and presentation. When I ever hear someone ask the question, I usually use answer #5 - Because we're human. Because we're curious. Because, ever since man's earliest ancestors stood up on two legs we've wondered "What's on the other side of that mountain?" And just because there are problems here on Earth that need attention, doesn't mean the first thing to get rid of is NASA. We could accomplish the same thing by giving the military a few fewer airplanes. They won't miss them.

This is literally the best thing I've heard all day and struck me in such an amazing way. It's amazing to think that me or one of my friends or another middle schooler/ high school could be the first one on Mars. I love this statement!!
