The fact that Taylor Swift has never objectively put out a bad album, the fact that most people can name at least 6 of her songs even if they’re her biggest hater, the fact that she dominates the charts everytime she releases anything is what makes me really grateful to have stanned her. Despite ppl constant attempts to break her she comes back swinging with something that nobody can deny her- actual raw talent. She is a lyricist at heart and boy was the latest album Folklore a showcase of those incredible skills.
Actually .. I would say it is her outstanding MUSICIANSHIP and sense of melody that keeps her dominating popular charts. She is a very good lyricist, but not outstanding (compared to other lyric greats like Bob Dylan and Neil Peart etc.), whereas she is one of the best melodists I've ever heard.
@@zx7-rr486 she was 100% better than bob Dylan. I think you should actually listen to her catalogue. I know you haven’t because you’ve made this comment. She is very intelligent and has the best lyrics out there, especially on the lesser known/sad songs
@@jameshampton5659 Nope. I have her entire catalogue and listen to it all the time. I am a musician and I stand by my comment. Her sense of melody is as good as it gets. She is a far better musician than lyricist, and yet she is still a very good lyricist. Yes, a song like "Mine" will have a great line in it, like "you made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter" but the rest of the lines in the song are not the same level. I don't rate Bob Dylan much as a musician, but he was an exceptional lyricist. Neal Peart of Rush was a fantastically deep and complex lyricist. Taylor is good, but she's not at that the same level as those guys. Maybe Folklore is getting close. Listen to Territories by Rush (lyrics written by Neal Peart) .. here's the chorus.. The whole wide world An endless universe Yet we keep looking through The eyeglass in reverse Don't feed the people But we feed the machines Can't really feel What international means In different circles We keep holding our ground Indifferent circles We keep spinning round and round
Taylor opening up about politics was the IT moment during this. The men overshadowing her in that room. Both Taylor AND her mum getting spoken over and not listened to? Bye! I'm so so so so happy they stood their ground because politically woke Taylor is everything!
Malin B Music that was just plain tragic that her own dad values her opinions so little he didn’t even care to even listen to her. No wonder she has stayed so ambiguous regarding so many things when what she got from home was the silent treatment or “hush”-mentality if she didn’t align her thinking to her dad’s view of things. I know people want to praise him for investing so much money in her dream, but he is a business owner and saw her potential and understood big money could be made (had it only been about her, he would’ve cared to hear her out). Ngl, but I’ll always side-eye her parents for neglecting their youngest child in effort to get the oldest child’s career/dream going. Not ok! The enormous amount of money she has made her parents that is crazy! From a psychological pov it’s unhealthy for the child to be the breadwinner in the family.
EXACTLY. its really hard for someone as influential as her to open up about her opinions bc the media (being their usual crap) twists their words SOO much!!
@@die_moehre5658dont you realise how much hate she gets everytime she gets political? its fine if she stars bit by bit, its progress. the press and the dumb media don't help either :( i would love if she gets more political, but there are limitations in it
what pissed me off so much about the whole controversy is people telling her SHES “PLAYING THE VICTIM”??? WHEN SHE’S ACTUALLY THE VICTIM???? but im sincerely proud of her for turning it for the better IM REALLY HAPPY FOR HER
The way she says “i’m making a better record.” Describes how many deserving women in this industry has always wanted to please the grammys and get a grammy, *and then one time it turns out that the grammys is biased and they manipulate the system to award men instead.*
it’s also kind of ironic how for both of the albums that lost and for which she said she needs to make a better album.... she made a worse one. RED is still better than 1989. rep is better than Lover. the grammys just don’t know what they’re doing. and taylor needs to know that those albums are breathtaking even without the grammy win.
Taylor said “There will be no further explanation, there will just be reputation.” That’s why people don’t like her. By being herself, she’s exposing society and everyone is just in denial about it so they shame her. Say what you will, but that’s the truth and no one can really break her or her fans because we’ll just shake it off.
People are scared of originality and are uncomfortable when people speak truth........she chose vulnerability over walls around her and guess what her vulnerability and self awareness and doing what she believes in is the most treasured trait of her and we love the most . It's actually what make her so strong and empowering...😊...and we'll be always there for her
DJ he's recorded a lot of songs while he was sick, i love him. one of panic's most famous songs is i write sins not tragedies and he had a fever while recording the music video
You can watch his Bohemian Rhapsody cover (live stage, don't remember what town/city, but it's the most popular video), he was also sick and just beat all these notes. I just... Dude, is this man a human or idk?
They’re my two favourite artists of all time so when I stayed up til 5 am my time only to see they’d made a song + music video together I was actually dead.
Speaking up at the Grammy's while recieving the AOTY wasn't a calculated move on Taylor's part. Kanye himself asked her to present him with the video vanguard award at the VMAS and then went up to the stage saying MTV got Taylor to present him for ratings. Taylor mentions this in her Rolling Stones interview that after that she had basically become sick of the dynamic between them. She had the right to speak up against that stupid song and it's revenge porn music video. Defending herself doesn't make her calculative
Exactly ..... people want her to shut up and be okay with all this bull shit... But why would she?....cuz nobody is thinking that if they were in her shoes would they be okay with a man who humiliated her on national television when she was 19 and then claimed her success as his favour and stripped a wax model of her naked when in fact Taylor is very insecure about her body....... people actually need to develop some EMPATHY.....
I don't know if someone ever notice this but Taylor's albums (which we all know that most of the songs on them are based on her actual life) feels like a plot from movie. Debut : innocent beginning Fearless : break out career Speak now : young love Red : toxic relationship and nasty break-up 1989 : self-discovery & self-love in a peak of her stardom Reputation : revenge of the fallen Lover : finding true love and the real meaning in life. P.S. I never knew someone who has such unique and stand-out eras the way Taylor does. Like it's impossible to mistake a song or aesthetic on Reputation with 1989 or Red with Lover. The difference is so obvious that even if you are not really in the fandom, just a casual music listener, you still be able to differentiate which lyrics or sounds or songs belong to certain album.

Her talking about her eating disorder just makes me so sad because of how NONE OF US noticed even though we claim to be her biggest fans. Also seeing her get so honest and vulnerable about everything else I-🥺
I actually remember the first time I wondered if she had an issue. It was actually a golden dress she wore at an award show, maybe her first, and her chest looked so sunken in and I remember thinking she looked anorexic. I just would have never said that because if she looked that way naturally (she is skinny in every picture or video I've ever seen of her as a child) I didn't want her to feel bad about being skinny anymore than I enjoyed feeling bad about being fat. What I'm saying is I dont think it's that no fans noticed I just think no one thought it was an eating disorder and didn't want to body shame her.

@berk9965 Totally respect that take - folklore means a lot to me cause I feel like it helped me through 2020, but tbh everything Taylor makes is someone's favorite and I really love that, it says a lot about how talented she is
Watching this knowing she just broke records again with Midnights and she thought Lover was her last chance at being successful BYE I’M SO HAPPY FOR TAYLOR
Taylor, speaking about Lover as if it's her last big project : "I really wanna work hard while society is still tolerating me being successful" Folklore, a surprise album, not even out for a full week : * breaks Spotify and Apple Music streaming records and with half a million copies sold *👁️👄👁️
midnights over three years later: - the most streamed album in 24 hours - makes taylor the first artist to ever occupy the entire top 10 of the billboard top 100, - sells more than 1.2 mil units in the US within the first 3 days marking the first time an artist has sold over 1mil records in an opening week since Taylor did it herself in 2017 with reputation - snow on the beach earning the biggest single-week streams for an all female collaboration in spotify history - broke the record for the biggest pop album of all time on Apple Music by first-day streams
my dream is to have a documentary about the rerecording of all the albuns, one documentary for each album. Like a minisseries or something ... I neeeeeed
"I wanna work really hard while society is still tolerating me being successful" I just read the headlines today about her banner at Staples Centre being taken down, and her being replaced in the Nashville country legends mural. She knew. This woman knew the world wasn't going to tolerate her success for long. Damn.
ASHLEY! That’s what I’m saying! Back in her earlier eras when she wrote about high school boyfriends and stuff like that the media really didn’t care because we didn’t really know them but when she started writing about guys that we know that are famous, it became a huge deal that she was writing about ex-boyfriends! The media jumped on board right when she gave that interview to Ellen about how Joe Jonas broke up with her over the phone, they ran with it.
I still believe that Ellen has a huge role in portraying Taylor as this " serial dater girl" ....when in fact she's just a normal girl in her late teens and early twenties.... And then she did blank space and shake it off.....she really use all kind of criticism constructively.....but we can't deny that it really affected her mentally...
My biggest flex is that I’ve followed her since I was 5, she has always been my favorite artist, and I NEVER gave into the media’s influence & the Kanye drama. That year she was AWOL was one of the most depressing times, her music got me through a lot of heavy shit. Thank god she exists.
Literally my 28 year-old-ass the whole time I was watching this. But it also gave me a sense of motivation: if she can do it, so can I. (I mean pursue her dreams and constantly be evolving into the best version of herself) It gives me hope and so much inspiration to watch her story.
I was so heartbroken to learn that she had/has an eating disorder. But as someone who has struggled with one too, it felt so validating to hear that this person that I have looked up to since I was eight has struggled with the same thing and has come out stronger. She helped me so much
I'm late but honestly I feel like throughout her career, she wasn't really allowed to be successful by the media. The reason we all hated her cause of the "too many boyfriends" thing was our own internalized misogyny. Now that I feel like we've moved past that (hopefully at least), I'm hoping that she remains successful for a LONG time cause she is SO talented and deserves her platform in my opinion
I think her saying "they get to fucking call us that" really cemented her feelings on the word bitch and it's connotations. About the success thing, I mean, look at Shakira - huge in her late teens and early twenties but as soon as she got thirty her relevancy dropped even though her music only evolved
29:20- Looking back at this in 2023 after Midnights released, she got this kind of success again, she fucking broke ticketmaster with her concert and had 10 of her songs from her new album be the top 10. It's unbelievable how talented she is
Sooo, I wanna say that from the start of her career until like 2018, I HATED Taylor Swift (😱😱😱). Like I thought she was annoying and dramatic and not a good artist (I know, shoot me dead). The first Taylor Swift song I download was “I knew you were trouble” and it wasn’t new when I downloaded it, it just hit me right at the time. From there it slowly grew, downloading a song here and there. Flash forward to January 2020 and I stayed up one night and watched Miss Americana and the Reputation Stadium Tour. Life changing night. I literally fell in love with her and felt such respect and admiration for this girl. Since then I have spent waaaaaay too much of my time catching up on 15+ years of videos and tea and music, trying to learn every single thing I can about her. It’s safe to say I have an unhealthy obsession and everyone around me is sick to death of me because 90% of the time that my mouth opens, Taylor Swift information vomit comes out of my mouth. #sorrynotsorry. She is the motherf*cking queen and I will Stan for her ALL. DAY. LONG. Plus, can we just bow down to how beautiful her voice is now? How much work she put into improving her vocals? She is a literal angel on earth. 🙌🏻
Now THAT'S character development. Im sorry that you got caught up in media's twisted fabrication of Taylor but it's good that you gave her a chance and now stan the right person. Now that her re recordings are coming, we can relive the old eras again!
I’ve never understood why ppl care that she dates. Literally all young women in their early 20s date around. She just has a spotlight so it’s amplified
Taylor talking about how she thought Lover would be her last really succesful era... and now here we are, 3 albums and 3 re-recordings later, with a record-breaking world tour, and she has never been this talked about. And she had absolutely no idea, that's WILD
I still feel that Kim owns Taylor a huge, sincere and serious public apology for everything she encouraged didn't stop and made her crazy ex husband Tay go through. I truly hope she will do that one day.
I really doubt that she's even gonna do it unfortunately. And yes, she even rejected Kris's advice to settle the issue. It really speaks about her true self.
I think what she has to say about deprogramming the misogyny within herself is super powerful. As women we're brought up to judge ourselves and other women in ways that we wouldn't a man. I love that she talked about it and accepted that she had work to do, because we all do.
I've been a Taylor Swift fan since I first heard Love Story on the radio. Its been hard having to see her go through hell with the media and other celebrities. This documentary made me cry, happy and sad tears. I replayed all her previous albums for weeks after watching. She has to be one of the best lyricists of our generation and ultimately one of the most inspiring human beings of the 21st century.
Is it weird that I kind of miss the true struggle of becoming famous? Like yeah gaining 100k on tiktok can be fun but idk I feel like knowing that someone is truely talented and worked their way up and gained 100k+ organically.
as a writer, i get what she means by needing approval to feel like something is good. i never know if my writing is “good” or not, i just write what i want to see and put it up. but if i don’t get as much comments or kudos as someone else, or if no one is telling me how good it is, i find myself thinking “what did i do wrong?” which is really fucked up when i originally set out simply to share something i loved with the world.
artist here, i feel the same and it sucks because i know i shouldn't care as much as i actually do but it still feels bad when i spend a lot of time doing it but no one notices. (but at the same time i know it's healthier for me if i don't but i can't help it)
Totally agree. I love writing and when I was about 13 I used to write like crazy, and I ALWAYS needed people to read what I wrote to feel like I was doing good. And the fact that people often take this as you being a covert narcissist is disgusting. It’s not that we like to manipulate and want attention, but we need to know if we’re good at what we’re doing. And the only way to do that is to seek approval from others and share our creations. It’s not narcissistic, it’s basic human behaviour.
First album I ever listened from Taylor was ‘Lover’ (absolutely loved it) and then watched the documentary. I’ve never stanned someone so fast, I didn’t even know half the stuff that had happened to her, I can’t wait to go see her live. She grabbed my attention at 29, girl, ‘NO ONE IS TIRED OF YOU, TAYLOR!’
I guess it seems ackward because she was probably thinking "wow, are you actually letting me into your intimate moment" a proposal should be really personal and intimate.
okay, hear me out. i know I'm 3yrs late to this video, but do any of you think Taylor was hinting at midnights here? at 30:50 during the Lover Album release party there is a shot of a laptop screen. it says "into the night" above the four playlists. 1. melancholia - "you don't read into my melancholia" lavender haze 2. techno bunker - the picture looks like the lavender haze music video 3. most necessary - 4. sad bops - SAPPHIRE TEARS!!!
"i just need to make a better record" "than REPUTATION??" ...now that folklore and evermore are out, this just hits different; she truly did make a not only one but TWO 'better records' im crying she's come so far
It's crazy in 2023, after this past summer with the absolute frenzy that has been the Eras Tour, to see her saying "This is probably one of my last opportunities as an artist to grasp onto that kind of success; as I'm reaching 30, I want to work really hard while society is still tolerating me being successful." I absolutely got what she meant at the time and no one could've expected what has come after, with folklore, evermore, and the Eras Tour, and where she is now.
I'm one of those people who knew nothing about her until I finnaly embraced that pop music can be GOOD (I'm a fan of post punk, rock, noise etc.) and she actually helped me with my depression and watching this document just.. Watch it.
6:00 the Reputation album is literally my favourite so when i saw this i began ranting on about how good the album is and half cried because she thought it wasn't

AGREEEED
Personally, I think 1989 was her best era. I think that era just holds so much nostalgia for me.
Evermore too
The whole wide world
An endless universe
Yet we keep looking through
The eyeglass in reverse
Don't feed the people
But we feed the machines
Can't really feel
What international means
In different circles
We keep holding our ground
Indifferent circles
We keep spinning round and round
@@zx7-rr486 listen to the whole bridge of champagne problems, it shows what an amazing lyricist she is and how deep her lyrics could be.
EXACTLY. its really hard for someone as influential as her to open up about her opinions bc the media (being their usual crap) twists their words SOO much!!
quite ironic though, she fought so hard for this in the movie and now Taylor is politically asleep again.. :(
@@die_moehre5658dont you realise how much hate she gets everytime she gets political? its fine if she stars bit by bit, its progress. the press and the dumb media don't help either :( i would love if she gets more political, but there are limitations in it
Period
what pissed me off so much about the whole controversy is people telling her SHES “PLAYING THE VICTIM”??? WHEN SHE’S ACTUALLY THE VICTIM???? but im sincerely proud of her for turning it for the better IM REALLY HAPPY FOR HER
The way she says “i’m making a better record.” Describes how many deserving women in this industry has always wanted to please the grammys and get a grammy, *and then one time it turns out that the grammys is biased and they manipulate the system to award men instead.*
Reputation didn't deserve it tho
@@ghostin3274 reputation is probably one of her best albums and eras. it totally deserved to be at least nominated
Ghostin may not have deserved to win (it was a stacked year) but it should have been nominated. It was easily one of the best and imo was the best.
it’s also kind of ironic how for both of the albums that lost and for which she said she needs to make a better album.... she made a worse one.

YESSS
34 minutes???? Ms. Ashley is blessing us on this Saturday
YES!!!!!
I don't know if someone ever notice this but Taylor's albums (which we all know that most of the songs on them are based on her actual life) feels like a plot from movie.
Debut : innocent beginning
Fearless : break out career
Speak now : young love
Red : toxic relationship and nasty break-up
1989 : self-discovery & self-love in a peak of her stardom
Reputation : revenge of the fallen
Lover : finding true love and the real meaning in life.
Folklore and evermore : coming back like a 90s trend

I actually remember the first time I wondered if she had an issue. It was actually a golden dress she wore at an award show, maybe her first, and her chest looked so sunken in and I remember thinking she looked anorexic. I just would have never said that because if she looked that way naturally (she is skinny in every picture or video I've ever seen of her as a child) I didn't want her to feel bad about being skinny anymore than I enjoyed feeling bad about being fat.

I screamed looking at the title when I got the notification lol

I think her saying "they get to fucking call us that" really cemented her feelings on the word bitch and it's connotations.

The last time I was this early Taylor had curly hair.
Taylor talking about how she thought Lover would be her last really succesful era... and now here we are, 3 albums and 3 re-recordings later, with a record-breaking world tour, and she has never been this talked about. And she had absolutely no idea, that's WILD
I’ve never been into Taylor Swift, but after I heard Reputation, I actually vibed with it. It wasn’t the same thing. It was change.
