FYI, The extra motion on the first night you are crossing the Florida straights entering the gulf stream with deep water. The waters are calmer when you enter shallow water of the Bahamas. You might notice that the ship tend to stay close to shore to stay in calmer water. You will also notice DCL tend to try to cross deep water at night when you will not notice as much.
We were in the movie theater watching Moana and the chairs starting swaying and we thought it was special effects to go along with the movie but then realized it was the shipping go really fast 😆
I'm not prone to any motion sickness but I still can't help but feel scared and worry about it! I've been on many boat rides in the past and enjoyed it all and always felt relaxed and chill. But now for some reason my fear has come back and I'm hesitant on going on boats again. I would like to go on a cruise some time in the future though. It seems like such a surreal and magical experience. Especially Disney!
First of all, I love your videos 😊 They have been so helpful planning our upcoming cruise! But while I was watching this video, I realized that we go to church with the couple that you walked by at the end! It’s such a small, small world 😂
Omg. My daughter and I got sea sick so bad in the dining room at dinner. We couldn’t even sit until our food came. We ended up going right back to the room. Then I went and had a drink with hubby and I ended up puking all night. But after that I ended up sleeping really well after the Dramamine kicked in.
thank you so much to tell us good information each time :) your tips are all useful to me ☺️ i’m going to disney cruise dream this december ALONE. so exciting but also a little bit nervous. so i want to know, do you have any recommend activities or tips for solo disney cruiser?
My aunt went with her teenage daughter, who spent most of her time in the teen club, so it was like she was alone. her expectations were different because she was planning on spending time with her daughter, so she didnt research all of the things to do alone. And because in her reservations she was with her kid, it made their seating assignment at dinner not as fun for her. BUT since you are a solo reservation, they will most likely seat you with other solo cruisers at dinner. Disney sits like cruisers with each other to help make the experience more enjoyable. They also have activities on the ship that are geared towards solo cruisers.. google some navigators and check them out for solo events. There have been many times when my family split up so I have even done some activities solo.. like trivia, crafts, games. I enjoy it a lot. I would love to go on a cruise by myself.. no one else to have to make plans with :) You will LOVE the dream in December!!! Super magical that time of year! Thanks for watching :)
Since I've never been on a big cruise ship I can't really give my opinion but honestly I love boats and I have been on sailboats since I was a kid, and honestly the thought of a humongous ship here on rocking back and forth sounds like a great time! I still when I go on a dock shake it back and forth and try to walk after and it's nothing but giggles.... how is a big cruise ship different? Like feeling the ship move.. sounds fantastic!
I get seasick instantly on smaller vessels, but on the ships it is a very different feeling. The uneasy feeling takes a while to build up when you are on the ship.
The Disney crew members are very helpful when it comes to ways to help you through an episode of motion sickness. You might be surprised to learn that GREEN apples (Granny Smith) are good to nibble on, and they do have those available if you ask. I understand they also have Ginger Ale available. Ginger Ale - or anything with ginger - for example, ginger gum, can be helpful. And believe it or not, nibbling on GREEN olives can also help. I had the behind-the-ear patches, but found I never did really need them, despite some pretty wavy days. It also helps if you can be up and about, walking around, and trying to keep moving, rather than sitting or lying down for long periods. I actually have come to enjoy the rocking and rolling sensation, as long as it doesn't get TOO bad. Just remember to ASK A CREW MEMBER whenever you need something. They are SO helpful!
yes great info!! The ginger ale can be found at the soda stations on the pool deck, and yes, even your room steward will help get you things if you are sick. Disney is the best!
I LOVE THE ALL CAPS FOR THIS TOPIC! I have never had good luck (I get sea sick on every boat) but was great on the Disney cruises. You can’t control the waters/weather though so any ship can have small issues. I will never do Carnival again. From my experience, alcohol alone helps, but all the meds cause drowsiness. I would try to the sea bands on kids (or even going to the room) before drugging them. All of these can cause reactions that are much worse than a little sea sick. Also, if you get sick from the car I would not assume any bands alone would work (to anyone possibly reading this).
Funny story ! I’m just like you w your storytelling style :) Sadly- we got really sick 2nd cruise- 7 night Eastern on Fantasy- not sea sick but Noroviris sick! yup- 3 out of 6 of us! Disney kept the whole thing on down-low but at least 100 people were reported with ‘the sickness’ during that cruise. We were told super rare- like 1st time in one cast members experience in 12 years. It’s been a year and we think we’re ready to do it again (that placeholder expires in 1 year)
Sea Band Anti Nausea Ginger Lozenges... also known as morning sickness relief for expecting mothers. I'm the KING of motion sickness, and these Ginger Lozenges have made all of our cruises (8 and counting) smooth sailing. They are dated, so make sure they are in date before you buy.
That is not the first time I heard about taking the medication the day before! Such a great tip! I don't get motion sickness but my oldest daughter does. This will be her first cruise so I am a little nervous and trying to get all the tips I can before we go. When we fly or take long rode trips she takes Dramamine and it does make her a bit sleepy. I will see about getting some Bonine instead. My one question is: I know you said that you should try to take it everyday at the same time, however what time of day do you think is best? Morning, afternoon, evening?
My hubby takes one in the morning and one at night... I just take one in the morning 😃 And it doesn’t have to be the exact time everyday, just around the same time. My older daughter does get motion sick in the car so I was worried about her too, she doesn’t take any medicine but she does say she can feel it a little bit- just not enough to bother her all that much.
just got back from disney baja mexico cruise.. that first night was terrible i couldnt eat anything.. kids fell asleep at the dinner table. my food was salty 😖
I believe you can. But you know, they will tell you that a request is simply a request and they will try there best to accommodate you. They are not the largest tables. I would say, no more than 2 adults and 2 kids, or 3 adults.
Would I call DCL to make a request? Or would you suggest doing it on the day we board? Thanks for all the info. Your videos are awsome and my favorites.
You can call or email DCL customer service. You could try the day you board. I would request it before hand and then once on board, check the navigator to see where they are taking dining requests (one of the main dining rooms) and then ask them to see if your request was granted. This would give them the opportunity, if it has not been granted, to try a second time. But there are only 8 of them I think.
I thought the lower you are in the ship, the less sea sick you get? Ppl actually recommend that i pick a stateroom mid ship on deck 2! Which deck should be best in your opinion on the magic?
Anywhere on the ship that first night will feel motion. It is worse for me in the dining rooms because of the lack of windows.. and plus, we see the show in the theater before dinner, and it is at the front of the ship.. which is really rocky that first night. But yes, generally speaking for staterooms.. low and mid is the best. In fact, midship trumps what floor you are on. Where you are on the ship is more important than the floor in my experience. The Magic is a little bit different in the fact that it does not have an advanced of equipment for stabilizing the ship during rough seas. But, it is still fine. Also, are you sailing out of Florida? If not, your seas may not be as rough that first night. It also depends on what port you sail out of.
We stayed in a stateroom on the Dream, midship deck 2. We did feel a little motion at night but it wasn’t terrible. We also were told that lower was better for avoiding seasickness.
Great idea! I am not one who uses them so I never think about that.. but my mother in law used them on their last cruise and said it seemed to work well :)
Oh my goodness. On our first night, we were sitting in the theater. Just as the show was starting, my husband and me both started feeling really dizzy! On the way out, we really started to feel the ship moving. I had a death grip on the hand rails so I wouldn't fall flat on my face!😂We also had the late dining, (which we loved!)and as soon as we were seated, our youngest said she didn't feel good.😣She ended up lying on my husband, and he had to carry her to our stateroom. So me and our other 2 kids finished our meal, and I carried a tray back to our cabin. So our first night was rough too! Then, I got sick🤢after we ate at Palo. I think it was because I was staring at the ocean through the huge picture window while we were eating. It was terrible! Next time, we're all taking Bonine the day BEFORE we board the ship!🙄
Motion sickness.* seasickness is a virus. Motion sickness is the sensation of feeling the ship rocking side to side many times to slosh your stomach acids around. Seasickness on disney ships is minimal because of their hygiene standards
So I was very interested in this concept so I researched it. Seasickness is defined as being sick to your stomach do to the motion of a floating vessel. It is not a virus. You are correct in stating that Disney ships are very very clean.
It's kind of funny, because I'm going on the Disney Wonder in about 12 days, and they literally just sent out a message saying that we're allowed to rebook it if we want, since so many people are freaking out about the corona virus, but my family is still going because we honestly don't care. If we get quarantined, that just means we get to skip school for awhile. The virus isn't even that bad. I'm more likely to die from the flu than from the corona virus.
Oh thank you! Great info!
That's a great tip about taking the medication a day before. Thank you for sharing.
I’m planning on doing a combination of things to “cover all my bases” by taking Bonine and wearing sea bands!
Always, use the transderm patches! We never cruise without them!
Yeah I can feel Phantom ship movements after the cruise is over, but I have never got sick.
We were in the movie theater watching Moana and the chairs starting swaying and we thought it was special effects to go along with the movie but then realized it was the shipping go really fast 😆
LOL That is funny.
😂😂😂
Good information as always! So excited for our cruise
Thank you!
I wish I had seen this prior to my cruise I missed out on Artist Pallets food, but saw the show which was fine but I felt I missed alot.

Thanks Brittany 😃 That is crazy nuts! I went back and rewatched the end to see who it was lol - like I was going to know them or something lol 🤦♀️
One time I was on the fantasy and we hit 12 foot seas that made me really sick but this might work my next cruise I’ll give it a try
Omg. My daughter and I got sea sick so bad in the dining room at dinner. We couldn’t even sit until our food came. We ended up going right back to the room. Yes, I do everything I can to avoid being drowsy on my cruise!!
My family have started our booking process for a cruise in 2020
Woohoo!!!! That’s exciting 😍😍
Disney Cruisers I went on my first one about 4 years ago in July.
Funny story ! I’m just like you w your storytelling style :) Sadly- we got really sick 2nd cruise- 7 night Eastern on Fantasy- not sea sick but Noroviris sick! yup- 3 out of 6 of us! Oh no Angela! I have also heard that about 100 were sick once on the Wonder. 😬
my wife and I just booked oyr first Disney cruise on the fantasy on the back of the ship. did you ever stay back there?
we're sailing for 2021 in may.
Great tip! Thanks Jeff!!!
I’m so terrified to book this cruise ! I get terrible motion sickness!!this is the only reason it’s not been booked yet!!!
I swear by bonine ... but you need to start it the day before sailing. You need to book a cruise. Just do it!
That is not the first time I heard about taking the medication the day before! Such a great tip! I don't get motion sickness but my oldest daughter does. @@DisneyCruisers Thank you very much! I guess we will just have to see how it goes. I would hate for her first cruising experience to be miserable!
Oh this made my wife and I laugh
just got back from disney baja mexico cruise.. that first night was terrible i couldnt eat anything.. kids fell asleep at the dinner table. my food was salty 😖
Yes, our first night on our first cruise was such a waste! I wish I could have done a do over!
I’m afraid of seasickness!!! These patches you said... do they sell them at the drugstore? Never saw it in Brazil. Tks!
Disney Cruisers I’ll take it 3 days before! LOL
LOL
I leave in 2 weeks. 7 days on the Fantasy.
Yay Jessica! Your cruise is so close🎉🎉
Do you know if you can request a teacup booth?
I believe you can. But you know, they will tell you that a request is simply a request and they will try there best to accommodate you. They are not the largest tables. I would say, no more than 2 adults and 2 kids, or 3 adults.

Yes. I kept getting nauseous days after the cruise. 😂😂😂
So funny how our bodies work
sea bands did nothing for me whatsoever 😔
#firstviewer lol
Cruising in less than three weeks :-)
So are we. We will be on the Oct 29 4 night Bahama cruise😊
lol woohoo!

I found that essential oils really help with sea sickness
Which one do you use, peppermint? Im going that route as well.

Were you able to sail! If is, how was it?
Is Dramamine safe for kids for that long?
They make a Dramamine kids version. However, my kids do not take it unless they really complain.
