Bayu Bayushki (Russian Wolf Lullaby) - Ashley Serena

- Russia has some epic lullabies, gosh. I've been told this one is actually quite soothing to native speakers, but to my ears, it's very spooky. We certainly have some bizarre lullabies here in the States, but scaring little ones into staying in bed with the threat of wolves dragging them off to the woods sounded very Halloweeny to me, haha. I read a lot of translations online and localized them into my own English rhyme. I hope you enjoy!

russia is probably the only country where a song about a wolf eating a baby is considered a lullaby
epic
I mean, a lullaby about a cradle and baby falling over isn’t exactly happiness goals. A lot of popular songs are pretty creepy in the right context.
IKR
Да, это правильно (yes that’s correct)
You should hear tili tili bom about a strange man coming to take children who do not sleep
@@xxlilacskiesxx8899 I can read Cyrillic :)
The lullaby I hear before I get a hatchet thrown at me.
Hats off if you get that reference.
I get it. And I can relate
I've had this song in my head for months and only recently remembered where I heard it from
James Cavin LOL. Ashley sings it much better than The Huntress.
Bunny mom is scary
Huntress is my main
Haha I grew up with this lullaby! Heard it so many times! I don't understand why people in US find it scary for children. It's just about a wolf that will grab you in his teeth and steal you into the forest if you lay on the side of your bed.
So basically teaches children to be safe to not fall out of bed so the mother doesn't have to worry about them by instilling fear to force them to sleep on the center of the bed. Ideal Russian Parenting 101 XD
😨😨😬😰😳😳
True
Yeah it’s not that scary
" I don't understand why people in US find it scary for children. It's just about a wolf that will grab you in his teeth and steal you into the forest ... "
I've never seen you in my life, but I can confirm you are indeed Russian.
Wow
*The Huntress has entered the chat*
Huntress main over here >:)
The fact that this is what she’s singing makes her so much creepier too
@@IamNightingale And more sad as well. I just wanna give her a hug :D
*huntress joined the game*
*Ok face bcs its just huntress*
*Not ok face bcs realised that she left call of duty right now *
I now know the name cause I'm a huntress main
...in an English lullaby, a baby is in a cradle on top of a tree, the wind blows and the cradle falls...in a traditional Irish lullaby you straight up say 'boo' to scare the kid, and then tell them you're just being silly. Lullaby are simply another folk way of warning and teaching the young, just like folk fairy tales.
And in russian, you get molded to death by a wolf
wha…wha…wha…wha…wh-what?
Not surprised because I come from Irish decent and I grew up with this song.
@@simonalupascu122 what a nice way to teach children to not go far into the woods.
Say what you will, but fear has incredible 'teaching' power.
A lot of people seem to find the lullaby creepy. But I actually find it quite beautiful. No one has ever sung me to sleep, read me a story, nor even said goodnight to me before. Especially my parents. So after listening to this lullaby I sorta got addicted to it and would always put it on, falling asleep with it.
Me2 🐺
I know this comment was a long time ago, but if it's night for you now, goodnight !
You deserve to know what it's like to have someone read you a bedtime story or say goodnight! I know it's not the same, but there are a lot of adult bedtime stories on youtube! or even children's ones
You are exactly the type of person that I imagined would find this relaxing
Watch out for hatchets flying through your window
This is the song I hear when I have one foot dangling out of bed

Не уверен насчет вашей версии, но в моем детстве концовка была - к нам волчок не ходи, нашу детку не буди
Not sure about your version, but in my childhood there was an ending - don’t go to us little wolf, don’t wake our little baby
Oh, I like this, thank you for sharing! It’s a much gentler ending, and one I might sing to my own babies.
@@AshleySerena you made a gorgeous song anyway - my wife plain forced me to play it one more time :-)
Да! О, я так благодарна, что я была не единственной, кто слышал это с этим окончанием!
Ashley Serena this is very random but I love your name
+ NDJK ну не сильно лучше стало. А что если волчок не послушает, и все равно придет?
I Feel SO NOSTALGIC, this is what my parents sanged to me when I was a kid. :D And you singed it FANTASTICALLY! Love from Russia
Thats why I'm here lol. That song is so catchy, i needed to know if this one was made up or a 'real' song. So my russian friend told me that this is a real lullaby and yeah....here I am, singing this song and annoy all my friends lol
i knew it as soon as i heard her humming
*sang, not singed. I’m sorry, I swear I’m not usually like this, ‘grammar police’ but this just really bothered me.
I’m playing it right now changing the huntresses outfit maybe I should turn it grey to be like a wolf in the rhyme
Goofy Goober your kinda like my friend lol
it’s funny how many children’s songs are just like this one. beautiful, dark and creepy, if you really thought about it.
beautifully sang. :)
There are many lists for creepy nursery rhymes, but actualy, I have not found a child apropriate jet, theycare all gruesome
M Tranová I know one from Indonesia or the Philippines called ili ili tulog Anaya, or I think that’s how it’s spelled. And it’s hauntingly beautiful. It was sung by older sisters or female relatives to small children when their mothers were away. It’s another example of creepy sounding lullabies. My personal favorites are from Scandinavia. Some of them are very sweet. And I also like German lullabies.
There's a German one with the line "if God so chooses, you shall be woken tomorrow."
Sure, no pressure, mom.
There's this Italian one where the singer ponders whether to give her baby to the dark man, to a witch or to the white wolf, and each one of them will keep the baby for a certain period of time.... Really creepy
This needs to be a werewolf or Red Riding Hood movie theme song it's perfect
True it should people should make a horror movie of little red riding hood
Goat Person already been done ;)
To whoever gave this a thumbs down: I hope a wolf drags you into the woods.
Why do you think they gave it a thumbs down?
Sure. I love wolves. I disliked.

The actual translation is more like good night sleep tight, don’t lay on the edge of the bed, or else the grey wolf will grab you by you side. Being Russian, this is the lullaby my mom used to always sing me and my siblings and it really isn’t that creepy. And although wolves do mostly represent villains in Russian stories.
Yeah, up until a couple hundred years ago, wolves were probably the scariest things anyone who lived in a small town or village was likely to run into, and they did kill people when they got the chance. It makes sense that they'd turn up as the villains in a lot of stories, especially ones for children; you'd want to condition your kids to be scared of things like that.
Who found this because of dead by daylight
Pretty much everyone outside of Russia, I'd wager. Plus a few Bloodborne players.
But actually tho
Sad to say
Me Lmao
same
I believe this lullaby sounds scary to foreign speakers because, even if the translation is correct, Russian is an intricate language. In Russian, words are very versatile. In this lullaby, every word is used in a “childish form”. So it doesn’t says the wolf, but instead uses the word “wolshok”. Wich basically means a baby wolf. Overall, the language used in the lullaby doesn’t sounds so creepy as the translation. The story is still creepy tho 😂 but most lullabies across the world have a quite dark story...that is sang in a soothing melody to a child that doesn’t yet understand the words...quite intricate!
Yes an Italian lullaby also mentions wolves and witches stealing little children
yes, but there is a continuation of the lullaby, which says that the wolf would not come to us and that the baby would sleep sweetly. And yes you are right it says about the little wolf
the entity hungers
The lyrics makes me feel unsafe cause when I hear this being hummed. I get hit with an axe 😂. But all jokes aside great cover
ahahahah same
Huntresss do be scary
I'm Russian 🇷🇺, and for us this song does not sound scary at all, in Russian folklore lullabies where something bad happens to a child, as we believe, scare away death.)
For anyone wanting to sing the first bit in Russian but no clue how, I found it in English letters!
Bayu-bayushki-bayu,
Ne lozhisya na krayu!
Pridet seren'kiy volchok,
I ukhvatit za bochok.
I hope this helps someone!
Thank you for this.
Its actually about a mother knowing her son will be stolen to be a drafted into the army when he comes of age. This as many lullabies of other countries along with other songs of other types have multiple different lyrics and so on. Its a very sad song actually.
Vidoslav Yugoslavius that’s not smart! IT’S VERY STUPID!!! Never tell this to a young child
I thought it was about the literal lyrics, like how many lived near the forest, and because the fierce winter forced many literal wolves to stray into villages in desperate hunger, they often ended up attacking dogs, livestock, and even small children, so this song was made to keep children from wandering after dark and tucked in bed, well that’s what I heard at least
@@pop6499 kinda both. Music is what you make of it. The original lullaby was meant to keep children in bed and is a classic Russian Lullaby.
@@accept4978 True, however, if you change “Grey Wolf” to “soldat” the meaning changes a bit.
@@raluca9730 it's culture from ancient days which actually the kids know about well. They sang their sadness to their child back in the day.

This was so pretty to listen to, great singing😄💝
Russian is such a fascinating language
If I’m not making any mistakes, russian lullaby songs were always about danger and death. It’s because in ancient times there was a sort of belief that if you sing a lullaby about death, your child won’t die in his early childhood. By singing lullabies like this mother’s were trying to prevent bad things from happening
However I don’t remember where I heard that, so it may be not true

I agree; the first time you hear the lyrics of this lullaby it may sound like scary and creepy. But didn't we all grow up being scared by our parents to behave? This song/lullaby it bears no difference. I don't get the fuss some people get over this type of lullaby.
