I work in a menswear shop, and it happens often that I get to compliment customers on their watches, some of which strike a conversation. One customer's wife had the same reaction described here, where I told her she had a great looking watch (white dial full steel Daytona) and she covered it with her hand all shocked. You silly woman, use an ounce of grey matter and understand the difference between "I love the look of your watch ma'am" and "give me everything on your person or I'll pick off your kneecap, then your head"

I'm sure you know Christian, but for the rest - They aren't screws on the royal oak. They are bolts dropped in from above and screwed from below. That's how the get they perfect visual placement. 😇
The Code 11.59 looks sporty, but is actually very fragile and has only 30m water resistance. A Daytona is much more suitable for everyday use with 100m water resistance and a robust movement. With the Code 11.59, which has a sporty look, AP missed the chance to release a watch suitable for everyday use. This is by no means a competitor for the Daytona...;-)
uh, yeah, that code 11.59 is fine, but it doesn't make my socks go up and down like it does for you two. i would still MUCH prefer the Daytona, and I'm not even that much of a Daytona fanboy
If you’re comparing the code 11 to the Daytona then why not do a side by side comparison so we can see what you’re comparing? There are many variants of the Daytona in the 30’s that blow these APs out of the water stylistically; you’re painting a very boring picture and having us imagine a bland and muted “plain Jane” Daytona (if one exists) that actually start at $14k! sure, If you’re comparing a sterile looking silver steel on steel bezel / bracelet combo than ok any of these AP dials pop compared to that, but there are many different Daytonas in this price range (they start in the low teens and have many more crazy options in the 30’s) that easily look much more luxurious and better than this line of AP that appears to come on a nato strap for $30+k. The everrose meteorite dial is in the 30’s and the John Mayer Daytona is also in the 30’s (retail) and both blow all of these code 11’s out of the water visually. not saying it’s a better overall watch at all, but I bet if you polled 100 people that are brand agnostic 75% would pick the Daytona’s in the 30k+ price range over these AP’s on looks alone all day long especially in gold and rose gold, so which Daytona’s are you talking about??
Sinn watches are incredible. For the price they are all over engineered. The 556 looks like a simple watch, but it's 200m with screw down crown. I've been keeping my eye on Sinn of late and some of their watches are on a 5 to 6 month wait list, they weren't a year ago. I feel they're going to become really popular soon. I don't mean this in a bad way but I don't think they're expensive enough for Christian to devote an episode too.

I saw someone with a gold AP Royal Oak. I asked him about it and he was clearly nervous. Now I guess he couldn’t see my two tone Omega Seamaster 300 but still. He’s wears a rear gold watch. It’s hard to imagine that he thinks no one is going to notice.
It doesn't matter how generically basic the 1159 looks, you'll still have to buy 1or 2 to get on the Royal Oak waiting list. That's the only reason this thing still exists. And the secondary market will be flooded with these after all the hopeful RO buyers, who were forced to buy Codes, then try to unload them. No reason to rush to pay MSRP.

I have the rose gold Daytona and cannot wear it. To me it's a ladies watch (looks amazing on my wife). The 11.59 Chrono (Rose Gold) turned out to the the perfect watch, that I had thought the Daytona would be. Oh, and I could buy at retail. There's no comparison between the two, except the hype and overpricing of the Daytona. To wear the Daytona on the Oysterflex is the right watch for the ladies, it's just too small for a guy. Saying that my 39 Seamaster Trilogy is the perfect fit.
With respect to the value discussion on the 11:59 as well as the jumbo... One massive oversight that wasn't mentioned is that AP no longer hand finishes the movements in any of the watches discussed. With AP today, you're getting a JLC quality movement. No more, no less. Yeah, the case finishing is more complex with AP, but that doesn't make up for what's been lost in the movements. I'm not an AP hater by any means... I just hope more people realize what they're actually getting when paying for an entry to mid level AP (and that includes the 16202!)

I own a Chronometre Souverain, a Breguet Tradition, and a Lange 1815 Up Down and am intimately familiar with what anglage is supposed to look like (the Journe is the roughest of the bunch). Unless AP changed something in the last several months, your 11:59 chrono does not have hand made anglage. It has something that looks akin to it by the untrained eye, but it's done by machine. Again, I'd be delighted to be proven wrong because it'd make me happier about AP's current direction, but I can't imagine that that's actually the case. Once cost is cut, it's pretty rare to put it back in.

The case is perfectly round, there is virtually no bezel. the lugs are not at all unusual. So what is it that "Screams IWC"? I sure as hell don't see it.

I love when people now judge other watches with screws that aren't aligned in a specific direction....It's because AP uses bolts and other companies use screws. Basically, they are judging other watches based on their lack of knowledge of both AP AND the difference between screws and bolts. They are the same people who think the most recognizable watch on the planet isn't flashy.

The new Code 11.59 Chronograph in stainless steel retail for $35,000 and is on a rubber strap. That’s over 2X the retail price of a stainless steel Rolex Daytona. I agree with you guys, this is by far the best Code ever executed but don’t you think is already too late? They should have released this model 4 years ago at least the stainless steel version to target the new watch collector generation. Definitely not a stainless steel Daytona but you can get a yellow gold Daytona for $38,700 or even a two tone yellow gold for $19,100 and that’s way more value than a Code 11.59 in stainless steel with a rubber strap.
