If you would paint and weather them a little, it would look great i think! Yes the bare metal has its very own charme, bute i think it would turn out awesome!
My dad used to have a business card for some soil science consultant with a little comic of people building the Tower of Pisa with one guy saying to the other "And we can save a fortune if we skip the soil tests!" That always cracked me up.
My favorite I've done is the USS Missouri, just because of its size. It's 3 sheet kit but the completed model is close to TWELVE INCHES LONG. Its absolutely massive compared to other metal earth kits. The hardest part of ships is always forming the contours of the hull.
All I have to say is WOW!!! That is an amazing collection!! I only have 3 and that are all only 3 stars by the metal Earth rating. This was a really cool video and it opened my eyes to all of the sets out there. Thank you!
I took the risk and chose iron man as my second model and surprisingly made it through, the legs were a pain in the ass though, I've done war machine as well
I know this comment is 7 years after but I had to say something because I’m almost finished with the Mars Rover for a friend who has his name on a plaque that’s supposed to go to Mars. I’ve built all types of models, my own RV aircraft and am a hobby machinist. Short of electrical, I used every skill I acquired over 50 years of working with metal except on a miniature scale. These little kits presented a very rewarding challenge with equal amounts of frustration. When I first started building it I thought there was no way I’d ever do this again but I was committed to finishing it. I have a warning for anyone, I think building them is seriously addictive. My only tip is get some tools mentioned in these comments and other videos. I only stumbled across the videos today and didn’t realize how popular they are. Thanks for sharing your models and information.
Awesome review. I remember building the Warthog , my third kit. It was the first model where I broke a piece. I realized then I wish there was a really detailed build video that showed how people actually bent and worked the metal for these kits.
I’m a plastic models for years , I’m 57 years/o and I do recommend this metal models I just recently discovered like 2 years ago but is really relaxing and satisfying hobby.
Great reviews and tips. Here's one for everyone. When doing any curved surface use a appropriate size dowel and a mouse pad. Roll it like you would a rolling pin and you'll get perfect curves with no creases.
Fantastic collection thanks for sharing I just began my first model. Tiger tank. And the tracks definitely caused many curse words for me. Hats off to you sir. I will follow your work as I build my total collection if I survive the gauntlet 😬
5:24 That building is probably the hardest and most fragile building I've done. It broke on several taps and I was ready to just give up but i managed to finish it. But as you said, there is several design flaws in it making it hard to make perfect.. I use tape to hold some thing in to place. Ive built around 20 puzzels :)
Just built the A-10 warthog, most frustrating thing i have ever done... I built the tie bomber and im pretty sure i glued half of it... the biggest problem i have with these are the directions being very unclear sometimes and forming circles.
My third metal earth model is Iron Man , the first two being R2D2 and Imperial Star Destroyer. Broken quite a few pieces and there were times I thought I would give up but I'm glad that I put it through. I would say the shin parts are virtually impossible to fit in. Overall it's an incredible artwork with minor flaws.
Cones can be difficult but they can also be really really easy if you use the sharpened end of a pencil to form them, just a little trick I picked up along the way of starting these before I had a jewelers tool set but I still use a pencil for cones.
i'm only interested in the star wars models, but not sure how to make these things at all. i had no idea all these others existed! so cool. i'll see if i can find a how-to or at least tips-and-tricks video and see if these little beauties are something do-able for old eyes and hands.
Really cool video, thanks. I bought a couple of these at a star wars themed store on a whim thinking that they were for kids and it would be a fun quick little thing. I had no tools to speak of, I'm currently using fingernail scissors (plus some folding) to separate the pieces off of the sheets and tweezers to put the things together. I have some needle-nose pliers but I like the tweezers as they feel a bit more precise to me. The rounded parts are the hardest for me, I've had more success making a pretty rough shape to connect and then adjust into a better circle. I did an x-wing first (not the one you have though, apparently there are two x wings), then I did the first order snowspeeder, and recently I picked up the model t. Unfortunately none of these are on your list, I was hoping to get a feel for how difficult these are in relation to the rest. At first I was surprised that they weren't that easy, but I think I've gotten the hang of them (at least the ones I've done). Yours all look great. In particular I think the tanks and the capitol building look the coolest so I might go for one of these next.
Some of these metal earth models are expensive. The prices start from $6.00 to $34.00 depending on model, license, level, gold, color, and attractiveness according to what metal earth model you buy off from Amazon Prime.
I purchased the Captain America shield today. It was my first one. Wasn’t too difficult. I just don’t like the way they designed it. The shield has a huge split down the middle that runs about three quarters in, and you are to put the two ends together and “close” the split. Finished product you can still easily see the split down the middle if you’re really looking. Still really fun. Nice collection, I’ll be purchasing more!
I built a small pirate ship model as my first and quickly realized that there were a few parts of instruction that probably should’ve been done either earlier or later than it says to. Otherwise, these are my favorite thing to do, especially the colored ones
I always add a touch of superglue whenever I have loose fitting connections like on your Snow Speeder. It is also pretty handy for reattaching parts when you accidentally bent a piece back and one too many times and it snaps and breaks on you. It truly is an invaluable tool for making these models, especially the ones with a lot of really small pieces. The only problem that I have ran into with superglue (like the super thin liquid super glue in small bottles) is how long it takes for the glue to set up. It honestly isn't a big complaint really, it would just make things a tiny bit easier to assemble in certain spots. I have experimented with hot glue for its quicker drying time, but it really doesn't seem to want to stick to the metal very well. Super glue in those really small syringes would be best for precision, and ease of use. There are other faster drying superglues, I just don't happen to have any on hand at the moment.
@@johnbangkok5004 i feel like that would end up wasting a ton of epoxy, though. Like, I just use super glue as needed, which is probably less than ten times through an entire build, and when I do use it there is typically a good stretch before I need to use it again. Seems like the epoxy would set up before I could use all of it, even if I only mixed it up in small batches. Plus it would be overkill in terms of how strong it is. That did make me think about UV resin, though. Pretty sure that stuff sets within seconds of shining the UV light on it, so that could potentially be useful. It would be difficult for some areas where you can’t get a good angle on the light to be able to set the resin, but all in all that might be one of the better options. That said, a medium viscosity super glue with a really fast dry time is still the ideal option, imo.
I used a highlighter cap to bend the curved pieces of the roof of Himeji. I like how it turned out, but you are right there are problems with it. I got mine from Banggood at $4.00.
I'm surprised you thought the Neuschwanstein Castle was simple. That thing drove me crazy from start to finish. We must have gotten different versions of the Dubai hotel. I finished that one in less than 15 minutes while watching TV. I thought it was as easy as the Eiffel Tower. [EDIT: Your model is the Iconx version. Haven't built that yet but it looks hard. I made the ME version.] Those are my only disagreements. Thanks for posting this video. Anybody thinking about getting into Metal Earth models should watch this first so they don't try to start out with a Tie Fighter or something and get frustrated right off the bat.
kdog909 I started with the tie bomber and im pretty sure i super glued half of it... Just finished the A-10 warthog and it made me want to smack anyone i saw...
Fellow Communist (nice user name!) I started with the Darth Vader Tie Fighter. Turned into a super-glued mess as well. Start with easy ones like the Metal Earth Eiffel Tower (15 minutes, no frustration), and work your way up from there. Other super easy ones, other than what's mentioned in the video, include the Metal Earth Arc de Triomphe and Burj al Arab (not the Iconx versions) If you like Star Wars, the Imperial Star Destroyer is the easiest (guy in video seems to agree). Takes maybe 30-40 minutes, with very little difficulty
I just started one and I have another one after that. neither of them are the ones in your video though. I can already tell it takes patience and delicate hands. I don't think ill have the patience to do anymore after.
I am on my fifth kit. I built the F4u Corsair, B17 Bomber, Star Trek Enterprise, and Cessna 172. I am working on the dragonfly now. Of all of these, the Cessna was the most difficult. It is only one sheet, but it had some real challenges. The rear window of the cabin has to be bent before attaching that section to the sides. If it is not bent, the tabs for the wings will be too far apart. The attachment for the propeller is weird and kept falling off. I would attach it last. Finally, the bottom of fuselage required manipulating it between the sides to fit six tabs. I found this impossible. I got the back four tabs into their slots and just bent the front part into position.
The first metal earth design i got was the Leaning Tower of Pisa and it pretty wack, i thought i was bad but luckily i heard that he also had design issues with it.
I mostly agree with your assessments, and Iron Man WAS a PITA - but it came out awesome so worth it - but I think the ICONX Saint Basil's Cathedral is a very close second - and also one of the most impressive models I have.
Wow nice collection, I’m building my first one, the Freightliner FLC truck and it’s hard as hell! I just bought my second, it’s the English Armor, and your comments on the iron man model have me a bit worried haha
I "completed" the Delorean in about 10 hours with nippers and tweezers. I broke three parts but the rest still fit. It was my first one and and really fun but pretty difficult
I just finished Optimus Prime, 2 sheets and managed without too much trouble but after that i can understand the stress you got into with some of the pieces you show.
Built my 1st today - the Red Barron tri wing plane. Wish someone would show more step by step builds on utube- at least the hard parts - like the spark plugs in the engine - Arg !!
Have you done the Cessna 182 floatplane I done the Cessna 182 floatplane it was pretty long but it was easy model to build the chairs were the hardest part for the rest was easy except the tabs were really hard to bend I must have to use my hands against the table to get it and I use super glue for the struts and the floats
I want to point out that the Fascinations website has difficulty levels listed for all their models. Problem is, I think they come up with the ratings based on number of pieces and/or steps. Not very reliable. I just finished a model (Shanghai Financial Center) that only had seven pieces and four steps that turned out to be extremely hard.
I'm doing my first model right now and it's the Himeji Castle, so I think it's a pretty fun thing and I'm going to do as many as I can! I find this video pretty helpful. Also you said iron man was a pain in the ass, and I though, 'what, in the movies or in the model, cause he's a pain in the ass in both'
I love althe notre dame in color one and the black and gold piececool pirate ship and the massuve castle from gane of thrones is huge i love metal earth over any other brand cause jts very detailed models but small so they look amazing cause kf the size and all the detail
I don’t think you covered the Star Wars at-at. I’m working on it now. It’s a bitch for my first go at these models. What did you think of that particular one?
A few days ago I built the X-Wing as my first model of these. To almost perfect condition. Took just over 4 hours. With my right hand in a SERIOUSLY immobilizing casting after I had broken my wrist. Is the X-Wing model just that easy or can I actually say I've got some skills at this kinda stuff?
I really would love to see someone putting the Liberty Bell together. It is easy, so I have heard. But the item #3 I guess is supposed to be bent to fit the bottom of the bell. I seem to be unable to get that one piece to bent to fit. Maybe I don't have a clue. Could anyone help???
These are difficult kit ! View it as a challenge. I've just finished the Hogwarts Express Iconx and it a real challenge. The hand rail along the boiler are so small it is impossible not to bent them. Nice result .
These models require a lot of patience, a gentle touch and the will to finish it. My model is the Voyager spacecraft. I bought it and see it everyday on my desk to remind me it is the farthest probe to reach interstellar space in it's voyage to the stars.
Got one of these in a blu-ray for "Blade Runner 2049." I thought it'd be some simple jack-in-the-box pop up prize. Lol 3 days later at 2 in the morning I finally finished. And I'm pretty sure it's one of the easier ones.
that's what i'm afraid of. i picked a few up at disney a couple of years ago, but never put them together. today at barnes and noble i see the star destroyer for ten bucks and i was seriously tempted, but not sure about such small parts and no one ever will call me a modeller by any stretch.
im doing the titanic one right now and it's a pain in the ass bending the little tabs and not knocking other parts off. If I have to keep trying over and over again to get the stupid deck railing on, this thing is gonna get some flying lessons. Stupid.
Great video. I got some of the Star Wars models when we went to Disney World and then bought a collection of monuments (Big Ben, Eiffel Tower, etc.)Having a really hard time with them. Got any tips?
I definitely recommend starting with the monuments. You need tweezers and/or needle nose pliers, some round items to bend curved parts on (screw driver shafts, pencil, dowel rods etc) possibly some glue. I like to bend the pieces back and forth until they fall off the sheet but some people prefer wire cutters. I don't know what else to recommend right now, try searching Metal Earth Tips and Tricks. Good luck!
you must have a pretty sore butt
so much pain
Well I haven't built any new models in months so it's all healed now. lol
🤣🤣🤣
If you would paint and weather them a little, it would look great i think! Yes the bare metal has its very own charme, bute i think it would turn out awesome!

I thought he said Pizza. lol
You know a model is difficult when this guy says pain in the ass instead of pain in the butt.
Desi, What about my metal models? www.kickstarter.com/projects/timeformachine/the-most-beautiful-construction-set-in-the-world
🤣🤣🤣
They’re literally fucking impossible to put together. I don’t know how the hell this guy did it
From what I got out of this is don't do them drunk or on low amounts of sleep.
Yup. I did the parthenon in that condition... ended up stabbing my finger tip in the same spot like 6 times.

I really would love to see someone putting the Liberty Bell together. It is easy, so I have heard. But the item #3 I guess is supposed to be bent to fit the bottom of the bell. I seem to be unable to get that one piece to bent to fit. Maybe I don't have a clue. Could anyone help???
Hmmm, I haven't built that one. I couldn't find any videos on it either. I don't know what to say without seeing it. :( Good luck.
i just made my first one, the tiger tank, my most annoying struggle was getting a nice crisp 90degree bend with the insertion tabs, how did u do it?
I hated that last step where u connect the bottom
IKR!!!
Erik Binnix I know it's hard
did you see the big Iron Man model that has a ton of sheets and selling for about 50 bucks on aliexpress?
Can you make a list in the video description of your ranking (easiest to hardest)? Awesome video!
+lawrobi Good idea! I'll rank them in the Description.
Hey awesome ranking!! How would you rate the Hubble Telescope? Is it difficult?
Notice the use of pain in the butt and pain in the ass
cool! I just finished the Yamato battleship. probably the hardest one I've done so far
can someone please tell me how to get rid of finger prints on these models?
i tryied rubbing alchool but they won't come off
help
..that's awesome dude!..i didn't even know they made buildings like that!..the lunar lander looks sweet!..how much was it?
What about the lamda shuttle?
how you clean your metal earth models?
These are difficult kit ! View it as a challenge. I've just finished the Hogwarts Express Iconx and it a real challenge. The hand rail along the boiler are so small it is impossible not to bent them. Nice result .
What do you do when you break a piece? I broke a few of mine on the X-Wing
Which tank model is the easiest to build? They really look impressive, but I try to avoid the more difficult models.
kdog909 Sherman
What would you say was your favourite model to build so far?
These models require a lot of patience, a gentle touch and the will to finish it. My model is the Voyager spacecraft. I bought it and see it everyday on my desk to remind me it is the farthest probe to reach interstellar space in it's voyage to the stars.
where is the Avro Lancaster they make?
The characters are hard. I've done both Darth Vader and Boba Fett and those legs are a nightmare.
Stupid.
Has any of you done the lighthouse one?
Summary and lesson if the video
Making these metal earth models are a pain in the butt
Good luck!
So basically its "a pain in the butt but some much fun"
