      i have a question do u get any hate for your race ? and how did u get a jo b ? do u speak korean?(im black btw)

    • @Daylightfulness
      @Daylightfulness  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There is some slight discrimination (people may judge you or look down on you), but I personally haven't gotten attacked for being black!
      I applied through EPIK, and I am learning Korean while living here in Korea!
      I did a Q&A video answering about Korea here;
      th-cam.com/video/oRvOvg6AM1U/w-d-xo.html&t
      And the EPIK application here;
      th-cam.com/video/5l5d4bimS5Q/w-d-xo.html
      Good luck and fighting!!

    • @Daylightfulness
      @Daylightfulness  6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Hey, in a couple of years time i really want to work for epik, and maybe another company that bases in Japan. I was just wondering if you actually recommend EPIKs program, as i am somewhat sceptical and wish to have more people’s opinions before i make the choice. Thank you

    • @Daylightfulness
      @Daylightfulness  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ali! I personally really enjoy EPIK! However, it can really differ from person to person. EPIK is a great way to ease into Korea and Korea life. They give you a lot of information and provide you with things to help you come and adjust to Korea. But what works for some people doesn't work for others- so be open to that! I recently made a Q&A video explaining this in detail! (= I recommend checking it out!
      Best of luck!!

    I've decided to teach English in Korea beginning in a couple months but doubt I will be able to get placed in Seoul or nearby through Epik since I'm beginning this late. My preference would definitely be to live in Seoul though. Wondering if any of you folks have insight on if you'd rather go the hagwon route if you could ensure living in Seoul or would rather capitalize on the advantages of Epik (no hagwon horror stories, set pay and hours, about an extra 7-10 days vacation) while ending up in maybe a not so lovely town in Korea. Obviously Daylightful's situation would be ideal but it seems impossible for me to be able to teach Epik in Seoul since I won't be getting my application in until mid to late June. Thoughts?

    • @Daylightfulness
      @Daylightfulness  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I personally would still apply through EPIK. You can do a hagwon but you run the risk of it not being as stable. The support you get from EPIK and all the other native English teacher friends you will make makes such a huge difference. You will be surrounded by constant support and stability.
      And who knows! You may end up in Seoul through EPIK! I applied super late too! (= But why are you waiting to get your application in?

    • @kobudnik
      @kobudnik 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well I only really made the decision about 4 weeks ago to actually pursue this. I had had the idea for a while but only recently pulled the trigger and started researching all the ins and outs of the application process. I also realized around that time that my passport was gone, so I had to apply for a new one. I had been under the impression until recently that you needed all your documents in order (fbi check and apostilles and all that) before you applied. I guess I was misguided on that front. However, I don't know if I could have applied without my passport and passport number, which the Epik application does ask for. So I figured I'd hold off until I got my passport and in the mean time, I'd begin gathering all my other docs (just need my diploma and fbi check apostilled now). My passport actually just arrived last evening, so I'll be submitting my app tonight :)

    • @kobudnik
      @kobudnik 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also thanks for your insight on my initial question... much appreciated! How late did you apply?

    • @Daylightfulness
      @Daylightfulness  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh great to hear your passport arrived! Good luck on the app and the entire process! It's smart you are starting early with the docs too (= (trust me haha)!

    • @Daylightfulness
      @Daylightfulness  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      For Spring 2018- most people applied in September but I applied in December. My docs officially finished getting in in February! ㅋㅋㅋㅋ
