the same old problems are still there, it will take time for any manager to fix arsenal. There is no shame to lose to the reigning champion but the performance was poor as usual, no leadership, no togetherness in the team, too casual, no plan B etc. Arsenal desperately need a midfield general to lead and organize the team like Vieira used to do, and the players need to snap out of their 'comfort zone'.

As a Liverpool fan we've had to rebuild numerous times and it always takes a long time to come to fruition. You've got to be patient and that means a couple of seasons. It's going to be particularly hard considering Kroenke seems like he wants to make no investment, which doesn't get you too far in the prem these days. But give it time, and see where you land.

Sam Brooke As a Chelsea fan I agree you need to give it time but I see where Claude is coming from. With most of the big 6 we have a good idea what their best starting 11 is. Not so with Arsenal, it's clear most fans did not agree with the starting lineup.
It's also clear Arsenal refuse to spend good money. They simply aren't able to attract the sort of players Liverpool, City and even Chelsea are to some extent. Wenger had too much power and stayed too long. I feel jury is out on new manager but the main issue is the board. Based on the size of stadium and ticket prices it's not unreasonable to expect them to invest in the team more. It needs it because there was lots of dead wood under Wenger.
Arsenal either need to compete or start again and have the best youth development policy if they won't spend but they don't seem to do either.

Jamie Connell I'll try to reply even though you clearly struggle to spell. Rebuilding a squad is a continual/cyclical process which never really stops. All I was referring to is that Liverpool have had to rebuild quite a bit and that the key is being patient. I wasn't actually having a go at Arsenal. But obviously we're further through our current rebuild cycle than you guys, who have just replaced your manager. Anyway I'll take a champion's league final and back to back top fours at the expense of Arsenal as progress. No doubt we'll see more of it this season, as Liverpool look to be title contenders.

Trust me that with Champions League revenue, Arsenal are one of few clubs that can turn a hefty profit whilst having a modest net spend on players (i.e not being a selling club). Season tickets, a global fanbase and TV revenue (particularly CL) are more than enough with the number of supporters we have garnered through playing good football. Of course he risks losing that if we slip down the table but what Wenger was doing - plus perhaps the odd title challenge, is more profitable than trying to compete financially with Utd, City and (old-school) Chelsea.

Its the first game of the season and its against City, the league winners who made history by scoring 100 points and won by 19 points ahead of 2nd place. The team that beat Arsenal 3-0 in back to back games only a few months ago. They're probably among the current 3 best teams in the whole world. No English team is even close to them in terms of overall squad quality.

It took Liverpool the best part of 7 years and lots of personnel changes and lots of cash to rebuild back into a formidable team.
