    Here is a solution, have your digital assistant call the digital assistant for the cable companies and let the robot wars begin.

      @veganjotaro 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      D. Void not really, it depends on education and people's capacity to have healthy interactions with one another, and that is what has gotten used where we are, being nice enough to gain something from someone while giving them something in exchange. Peace.

    My dad would use this to his advantage every six months. He'd call sky every six months and say he wanted to cancel, they'd give him a discount or free movies or sports. He did this for five years.
    He was a sith master.

    Your A.I. will call Comcast's A.I. to cancel your subscription...later that day your A.I. will call you and tell you that it felt bad, so you're going to have to keep paying for your comcast subscription, and that they agreed to several new perks that will raise your price because Comcast's A.I. was going to be laid off if it didn't retain at least 99% of his clients!

    Great insight on the “wall” concept that technology brings to our relationships. I imagine if consumers don’t like talking to soul-crushing AI robots, companies that offer conversations with real humans, or at least nicer AI robots, will get ahead!

    I believe Google did release a statement saying they'll take measures to let the person on the other end know that they're not talking to a real person.
    I do agree that there are a lot of in-between mediums between any 2 people that take the humanity out nowadays. Great video!

  • @crystanubis

    That wall scenario you're describing at the end makes me think of the Chinese Room thought experiment, which is somewhat like a rebuttal to the Turing Test, as they both have to do with people being uncertain whether they're having a genuine conversation or not.

    On a horrific side note, programming is being designed to give AI emotions.
    So in the future, when we belittle our robots, _(because who has ever yelled at their device or car for not starting, or something?)_ they'll react like a human, only they'll have robot strength...and what could possibly go wrong then?
    On a more horrifying side note, Saudi Arabia awarded *citizenship* to a human like robot.

    okay, a human can't find out if he hears a robot. but can a robot find out if he's talking to a human?

    • @thebradcolbow
      @thebradcolbow  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I was wondering that too. I would think after a while a robot could recognize the patterns of another robot. One thing computers do well is talk to other computers, it seems like a lot of work to make computers to act like humans just to talk to other computers.

    • @jjc5475
      @jjc5475 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeah but if it's only between computers you might as well get rid of phone calls entirely.
      my local barber does all their appointments trough a website already.
      i think a computer can evolve to recognize another computer but the computer can evolve to dodge that too of course.

    II have not tested yet the Google’s digital assistant call, but if it’s as “natural” as the translate robot, you can totally tell that there is a robot in the other side. I’m quite sure it can not understand the slang and double meaning. Considering how long Google’s translation has been around, it should by now know how to translate things as smoothly as humans, well turns out, it’s quite rubbish in it’s job.

    Why not have some automated assistant thingy call the cable company for you and deal with their AI for you? I mean, personally speaking, once I've told customer service rep what I want and they start trying to talk me out of it, they automatically forfeit any and all access to my politeness and good manners.

  • @zbeast
    @zbeast 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I know how you feel man... but when it comes to something I'm paying for... I just rip that bandaid off and cancel and no one can and will stand in my way.
    I use to have comcast the drone on the end of the line talked and talked..
    I just hung up on him.. disconnected all of the equipment took it down to the local office with with my account information and turned it in and told them in person to cancel the service. Make sure that you get a receipt... because not a month later they tried to charge me for the equipment.. Phone companies, cable companies, credit card companies are filled with the worse people. So ya, bots will make this even worse in the future..

  • @arcbrush
    @arcbrush 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I thought this was going to go a different way lol, that you would be glad it exists because then you could use the AI to be direct for you instead and cancel your services for you.
    When I call I don'y act like I'm talking to a person, because I'm not, not really. I'm talking to their list of instructions, so I am not being mean or give reason and excuses, I just say, "pass me to the manager", "cancel my subscription", "I've notified you (company), its on you now" etc. if you take it out of the human equation then they can't engage with you that way and use it on you.

    It's weird that it's quite specific and says '...a woman's haircut.' Usually we'd ring up and ask for a haircut or whatever, without including that it's for a woman. that would come after if it wasn't for the person ringing but they were doing it for someone else.

    Boy if I could have AI make phone calls for me my life would be about a thousand times better. I have a dead printer sitting by my table. It wasn't even half a year old before the print head dried up. But Epson wants me to call them about having them replace it. I can email them back and forth all day long, but I simply don't have the nerves to be craft eloquent responses that drive towards the goal in my mind, over the phone.

  • @gywghhb

    Shouldn't this be why it's not a good idea for Google Assistant to identify itself as a bot? Because we want to preserve that kind of bond, no matter if it's a human or not?

    • @thebradcolbow
      @thebradcolbow  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maybe we'll just get used to it after a while. I thought about how I would feel if I was on the phone with a robot and halfway through the call I realized it was a robot. I would wonder why I spent so much time acting nice.

    3:03 "What if the next time *I called* ..." What a shame; I think you've entirely missed the point, the potential, the more likely application, the application explicitly demoed: you *wouldn't* call -Duplex would! That being so, you'd be spared the experience of whatever irksome, emotionally manipulative stratagems meant to be employed against you. Instead, those tactics would be met by Duplex (or, more generally, the like), an agent, a proxy working on your behalf that's insusceptible to such methods -think, how does one manipulate emotions that aren't there or try the patience of something with endless supply of it.
