see whenever there is generation in same way recombination happens..practically generation rate = recombination rate...suppose in n-type semiconductor 100 electrons are there, due to light illumination at one side there will be a diffusion towards other side, whenever these electrons are moving to other side, those electrons will recombine with the holes and disappears..thats why we say generation rate = recombination rate

Here electrons are diffusing, so net charge depends on the distance and initial and final concentration of electrons
