Excellent reference! I had this problem back in the 80's when I was given vintage tape recorders like this. This would have been fun to try.

That machine was probably made by AIWA. I have an RCA recorder with mechanism and circuitry that screams AIWA from the top of its lungs. It's battery door is even the same as for my AIWA TP-703!
