He seems a nice bloke. How thoughtful. I saw him in concert in Brixton years ago when he had a stand up argument with a man in the crowd. He also sounds really shy and reticent on lots of his live recordings.
Lloyd was commenting in general about stuff and talking a bit and this voice came "get on with it!" and Lloyd really got upset and they had an argument. Lloyd was saying something about "back home in Glasgow if you'd said something like that..." etc. Didn't sound too convincing. The man didn't sound intimidated.
Your comment is old I know, Lloyd seems to see Glasgow as a home town as he studied there but as far as I know he was brought up in Northern England? The guy who told him to get on with it especially if he wasn’t inebriated was incredibly rude given that Lloyd is a wordsmith . Actually checked Wikipedia, born and brought up in Derbyshire.
the three albums with the commotions were excellent and still very underrated...but he completely disappeared afterwards from english sensibilities...i think this is a slightly embarrassing interview - very defensive and rather self-loathing...he was actually a much a better artist than virtually anyone else from 84-87 (with the obviously exception of 'the smiths' and unfortunately, like the bunnymen, he's been eclipsed by morrissey and marr's genius...shame, but true.
he is not defensive or self-loathing, he is just a shy smart guy... people are not used to such personalities especially in pop music or "show business" where self promotion is so much "important".... he had a great time of creativity and as he mentioned he prefers to focus on performances than pushing himself to be creative if he "doesn"t feel it"... inspiration comes and goes.... a great personality as far as I can see... humble, down to earth... and still a great simple performer in this noisy period....he is just "eclipsed" for non curious people.... good job Lloyd !
Nice to see Lloyd Cole on screen! I don't think I've ever seen an American interview. Thanks for putting this up.
Such a nice person he is ind this interview! Great songwriter and artist and still so down to earth. Great!
Jeniffer she said-best song ever!
You didn't think very carefully about that sentence... Did you?
