Just a wonderful history and pictures. Part of my youth in the 50's to the late 60's. Walked over it with my first boyfriend at 13 years old as we would walk on Merritt Island on the other side. Seven years later married him and when we returned to the beach area a few times every year from Canada would walk or drive over the bridge and onto Merritt Island. A very special part of our lives and so appreciate the work you went to in making this video. Thank you.

Mathers Bridge has a certain Zen to it. You can almost feel the history whether you travel by car, boat or on foot. I wish they had kept the restaurant. What a great view that must have been. Hopefully you viewed Part II as well. Lola Mathers is a fascinating personality just full of stories that go back to the early days of the bridge.

Thank you for your time and energy in research to present this historical video. Kayak7seas and I kayaked under Mathers Bridge and drove through it many times. As a matter of fact, we kayaked there on 2021 New Year's Eve and had an unprecedented event- surrounded by scores of dolphins. I didn't even have knowledge of the name of the bridge after John Mathers. Again, thank you.

I live right down the street from this bridge, see it all the time, and am still in awe of it every time! Such a unique little piece of big history for our small little island town. Thank you for putting this together- looking forward to part II!!

I think you will enjoy the history behind the bridge. I have quite a few old pictures from local historians to help tell the story.

Plenty of dolphin hang out around the bridge which is a delight for us and our kayaks. We generally put in at the Eau Gallie Causeway paddle past Dragon point then hang out around the bridge, watch it open and close while scouting out dolphin to enjoy. I recently added a video of Mather's Bridge from a kayakers perspective a few weeks back.

Will take a look at your video of Mathers Bridge from a kayaker's perspective. There is always something happening around that bridge. Even the dolphin like it!

It's the only swing bridge I have ever passed through by boat, car or other. Swing bridges are a rare breed these days!

I really enjoyed this video. I use to fish off this bridge years ago and always enjoyed watching this "swing bridge" do its swinging. You can still see some of the original pylons from John Mathers 1927 bridge just north of the west side of today's bridge (I'm assuming that's what they're from). I agree that Mr. Mathers could have never envisioned what his humble bridge site would develop into. Anyway, I've enjoyed watching your stationary camera of the Grand Canal in Satellite Beach and especially like any videos that explore local history. Keep it up and we'll keep watching.

I think the video on the history will be interesting to people. It will be a reminder of the fortitude and grit the the people that came before us in this area. John Mathers was one of those American pioneers that was unstoppable!
