i like that a level in the delicious last course DLC requires you to only use parries; it must reference the same mechanic in the scrapped jelly the octopus fight in this version of cuphead
Yup, the Knight is probably the most similar to Jelly. Only damageable by Parrying a weak spot on their head.

I love how much this game evolved and it makes me love it in its current state!
I really like the health bar of the old one. I get why they changed it, it's a bit hard to glare at during a tricky section, but that actually looks pretty creative.
Yeah, especially with the mouth being the parry meter.
I think it was removed due to the extra life item. Imagine a face with 4 eyes xd

You can have 5 health but your attack cause less damages ...
@@rikuu3515 I think you can get up to eight now with the parry ring but it would be nice if there was a mode for beginners who want to do the proper bosses but need that extra boost instead of have people do it on simple mode and then have to relearn the fights on normal. Just a personal opinion.

It is fascinating to see what changes were made after playing through the finalized version. I can see why they changed up Goopy le Grande and removed Jelly the Octopus (I couldn't even tell that was an octopus)

Fun fact: jelly the octopus was not going to be a standalone boss. He was going to be in a series of bosses called the airship. These bosses were repurposed into the kings leap

I love how all the art was basically done at this point
At least for eight of the bosses. It's crazy to think they had the fundamentals down so early on in production. Cuphead wouldn't be released for another four years later. So glad they took the time to refine the music, the boss battles and added another 18 or so bosses along with the Run 'n Gun stages and Mausoleum challenges. Cuphead is a classic game in my book.

I downloaded the apk on my phone and I'm happy it's as good as it is! It's just that some bosses crash the app. I'm pretty sure it's beta though so it'll improve

Beta Goopy Le Grande is literally the equivalent of fighting the Bobbins Bros. on Legacy Island in Plok.

The thought of cagney being on the left instead of the right is weird
Few thoughts:
- First, this pretty much confirms my running theory that Wally Warbles is an Isle 1 boss that got replaced with Hilda Burg. All the bosses there are themed around forests and nature, like early Disney shorts. Wally fits right in there, he's out of place in Isle 2, which is themed around a carnaval/funfair. And the second thing is that his design is about as simple as most bosses from there, except for Hilda Burg or Ribby and Croaks. He's relatively uninteresting.
- I have full confidence why Jelly was scrapped. He's freaking pathetic, even by early cuphead standards. Root pack have varied personalities and character. Ribby and Croaks are an actually interesting concept and are likeable as characters. Goopy is actually HARDER than this. Even in the current game he's simple in an awkward way where I always end up getting hit because I misjudge distance or something. And I'm all up for gimmick fights, don't get me wrong, but this is too much of a gimmick, nothing is even happening. And to pour salt in the wounds, King's Gauntlet did that whole "Win with parries" thing way better... Several times.
- Root pack is pretty much unchanged! The music is a placeholder of course, most sound effects are often weirdly loud and Ollie Bulb doesn't seem to exist yet... But it actually has the same background it does in full release. And I love that because the ACME fertilizer bag is probably my favorite little detail in isle 1. Game would truly not be the same without it. Second most detailed background of the beta, and may I say the best one.
- Phantom Express exists.... that's odd. But other than that, the first really finished boss of the game, Cap Brineybeard, who uses Wally's theme.... for some reason. It really shows that Cuphead designers weren't really good with designs back then, because the early bosses are most often stationary and just do a little bobbing/squatting idle loop. Nothing like the DLC, of course, but also nothing like Beppi the Clown, who was Oozing with personality in the base game. The last phase with the carousell is dynamic and really polished. Brineybeard was always kinda basic. He is of course based on Bluto from Popeye, but not as expressive as other bosses. You can tell that this is back when they were trying to "Mimick" the 30's cartoon style instead of having their own. Also I love the ship spitting sound effect. "TUUF"

The fact that there was once plans to give players 5 HP by default and to put a (what I assume is) a timer in the fight slightly concerns me about what the game's original difficulty was gonna be like.

I like captain brineybeard’s theme in Cagney Carnation. It’s a lot more energetic.
Considering Cagney's "cha-cha" hand movements, it feels more fitting to have the Brazillian dance number playing as you fight the demented flower.

Beisdes goopy this game's beta bosses looked easy but I guess you got to show the easy stuff so when it gets hard your challenged other then just showing its hard and only have pros get it and in beta mugman was going to be playable but they didn't do this for the final game for some reason until 2019 then you could play as him in single.
