Love this. Homeschooling will definitely humble us as parents and make us think more about what works best for our kids versus what we want for them. Thanks for sharing!
So true
I spy.... 😂❤ Hey! 👋🏾👋🏾👋🏾
@@samanthawoods615 Hi friend 😘
Math u see is the one thing that has stuck in our house from the beginning. I saw a pattern with the wiser homeschooling moms using it and telling their experience with meeting Mr Demme. I truly love it and the one thing I feel is not brought up enough is that there are smaller concepts woven throughout the main concept. Each books has smaller focuses. So it does in fact have a little more than what is advertised. 😊
❤️
If you get a chance to meet him in person, do it! He is so inspiring and to hear his personal testimony about how Demme Learning got started is incredible. We love Math U See in our house!!
❤️
So glad this is working well for her 🎉 It’s so humbling when we have to go to a curriculum we said we’d never used. I get it.
So true!
I have had my kids use Math-U-See from the beginning. I love how the teacher’s books can be used for YEARS, because they don’t change the problems/ answers. Also, the continuity of the same teacher and same method all the way through calculus is helpful.
Yes that’s so helpful
We've only ever used MUS. That makes my kids miss entire sections of benchmark assessments at times because they haven't covered something yet, but we all know why and no one sweats it. The pink book can be the hardest for some kids, since the mastery approach takes it on such a deep dive and some kids get bogged down. The also really do need to master it before advancing. MUS now has a remedial course (AIM) for kids who finish it without truly mastering that level. Some kids need that (or another remedial route) or other supplemental options to help master the multiplication facts. When one kid got really stuck, I wish I had pulled the plug sooner and worked in the remedial needs before trying to continue, rather than slogging through for far too long, only to repeat the entire level. That's the closest I come to complaining about it. We've used Primer through Algebra 1 so far. (The new Algebra 1 product, not the Legacy line.)
❤️❤️❤️ This is great info, thanks for sharing.
I regret not doing math u see from the beginning. We did the AIM level this summer from math u see and then jumping in to gamma for my upcoming 4th grader. Starting from the beginning with my kinder kid
That’s great
This is the most helpful Math U See curriculum that I've seen so far. We are in the exact situation with our son. I believe he needs a mastery based approach as well.
So glad this helped
We love Math-u-see! We have gone through primer and alpha so far and love it! My son has autism and I wanted a mastery based program and found this one early in our homeschooling journey. I love how it introduces advanced math in simple ways. Such as beginning algebra, geometry, reading a clock. Plus I could mix and match worksheets as I needed. Now my daughter is homeschooling as well and is in the primer edition. My daughter loves the manipulatives and my son loves the mastery as it helps him feel confident in how to approach the questions.
That’s amazing
We love MATH U SEE!! My kids went from crying to understanding and moving on, it's been so great for us!!
I started Math U See with my kids with special needs and it has made all the difference in the world! For the first time, my older kids truly understand math and my littles are starting MUS with Primer. Excellent math program.
That is awesome
So glad she is doing so well! 😊 We’ve been using MUS since Primer and we are heading into Epsilon (5th grade) and every year it gets really hard in the Spring, but we go back and look at the work from the beginning of the year and my daughter can see what amazing progress she has made! 😊Loved this. ❤
That is awesome!
My two kids love Math-you-see. We have been homeschooling for 3 years. Coming from public school, my kids needed some catching up. I also love that there are short instructional videos. It's getting hard for me to help my 8th grader!
❤️
I was like that with Saxon. Gave me the ick. Was a deal breaker with CC but they told me I would never HAVE to do it. Tied it the first year of middle school. Kids liked it. Ugh. Still hate it, but I respect it on behalf of my kids now. 😅
😂 That is true love #FellowSaxonSurvivor
Love Math U See. It’s the only curriculum we use that we’ve never changed.
My kids’ favorite subject is math and their standardized math scores are always excellent. I love the K-12 line so we don’t have to switch in the middle of their education like many programs that only go to grade six. I will also say that it’s AMAZING to have my kids not be afraid of math like I was. They just learn the concept in a simple way, practice it over and over and then seem content - no tears.
I’m glad you made the video.
❤️
I’ve had the same happen with other curriculums I never thought I would use. And the opposite, where things I thought I would for sure use, I’m no or have dropped because it doesn’t work for my kids
Yes same girl same.
I had a serious bias with online learning curriculum but after last week's failure of me not being able to teach (with the TBI from the car accident) my therapist said I needed to find something else. We had to do this quickly because the private school needs an answer from us soon about if we are going to be needing them full time again for the school year. Well after a bit of research I found Monarch and started it on Monday and so far it's going well. Praise God!
Praise God that you found that. It’s always such a blessing when you find the right curriculum for the season you’re in.
I’m bringing some serious Abeka bias into my homeschool. 😂😬 If there’s ever a day where a delivery of those Abeka boxes from my childhood enters our home I will weep in despair.
😂 I get that 100%
So funny! I just proclaimed this past year I’ll never use anything instead of Math U See. I’m moving all of my kids over to it and I’m starting my incoming Kindergartener with it this fall. It’s the absolute best!
❤️
I have been hearing so many great things about Math U See. We are switching to it next year. We did The Good and the Beautiful up until now but I feel like it was all over the place and kids got distracted easily.
❤️
I bought the Bais of a teenager with Singapore math but my twin son is doing awesome and he loves it!!! As a teenager I paired MUS with Singapore math and I ended up starting my homeschool with MUS!!!
❤️
I am in the same boat! I too also said the same thing and we are doing math u see this year too!
❤️
Thanks! Im doing MUS alpha for mt 1st grader next year it will be the first year ever doing it
That’s so exciting
I love this! I have actually been trying to decide between Math U See and Math with Confidence for my rising K 😅 and maybe even my rising 5th
For kindergarten I really like math with confidence but it is a little more dependent on the teacher
We have been LOVING Math With Confidence! I wish they had it for 5th grade 😩
@@RaisingThreeMarigolds you might be able to join the focus group?
We use both programs in tandem and my Kindergarten student loves it! Independence and practice with MUS, variety and interest from MWC! They're both wonderful
Sure, if you haven’t done it single the beginning & then you get only pieces of it here and there , it might see intimidating or dry. But it’s anything but . We have been using it since my eldest was 5/6. We love it and will end with it. I can’t not imagine not seeing uncle Steve. ❤ we are at child three now & we get the workbooks for the younger ones. Cheaper ❤
❤️
If you decide you want to add in more curriculum, I recommend the Humble Math books. We've been happy with them.
Thanks!!
Glad to see you decided to try it. I’m sure she will excel with it BUT as you get to more complex topics the method they use is a little different for multiplication and division. You may want to watch the videos with her at that point
PS. All the videos are short even up to division. That’s how far we have gotten so far and the kids love mr demme 🤷🏽♀️ they want to see him at a conference
That’s so good to know, thank you
Agree! My son was thriving with MUS until multi digit division and he couldn’t grasp the way he was supposed to do it. And since they don’t touch on fractions, decimals, and percents yet when we switched we had to go back a grade level in order to learn those concepts.
The homeschool graduate bias against curriculum is so REAL. Looking at you Saxon 5/4 and Abeka LA.
My 9 yr old who is neuro spicy really struggles with math and hates manipulatives so even though every random person says we should do MUS, we're trying MWC for 3rd grade.
😂😂 so true I can’t ever look at Saxon the same way lol. I tell people all the time it’s an insanely solid curriculum, ain’t nothing wrong but I just can’t 🤣
I bet you will love math with confidence I loved it for my littlest girls
We love Math U See. We use plenty of games alongside, but it’s worked well so far for our child.
I love that it’s so easy to add on extras when desired.
I've had this same experience with a few curriculum companies. I wasn't homeschooled but I attended a small Christian high-school where we used BJU, Abeka, and Saxxon. I had no warm fuzzy feelings about all 3 and swore I would never use them..fast forward 8 years into homeschooling my own children😂 I've tried things from all of them with my kids(current ages 18,16,and almost 3) and I humbly admit that I was wrong about 2 of the 3🤷♀️ I actually have enjoyed the things I've tried through Abeka and BJU..but Saxxon is still like nails on a chalk board for me and my kids😬😂
Haha 🤣 I feel you on that one
How would you compare this to Horizons?
Trying to take your advice I saw recently and teach to my child’s needs and style.
My upcoming first grader is a very energetic active boy that needs short hands on lessons. I need simple and easy to use.
Any thoughts?
Great question they are both very different programs. It is hard to say I would recommend checking out the placement test/sample lessons of each to see which one he gravitates too.
Math U See
- Mastery based very few concepts taught at a time
- Short lessons
- Video based
- Zero color, games, or fluff but does have the cool number blocks
Horizons
- Short lessons but a little longer then Math U See
- Colorful
- Introducing multiple concepts at a time and is spiral based so they are reviewed often.
@@LifeintheMundaneWhich one is easier for the teacher?
Want to do what’s best for my child but also need easy for myself right now.
@@beachgurl788 neither is super intensive BUT I would say math u see is less teacher intensive at least in the early years.
@@LifeintheMundane👍
YES! I can directly relate to the bias issue - mine was with IEW. Yet, what is my ADHD freshman using for 9th grade.... yep, IEW. LOL.
Isn’t funny how that works out
@@LifeintheMundane my entire homeschool journey has been a big irony 🤣
@@homeschoolteenswithjenny same same
Saxon math is the curriculum that I won't use because of teenage bias. I hated that math so much 😂
Haha 😆 same lol
Same. I wasn't homeschooled but my private school did.
I'm shocked you have never used it. It's not in my budget so not an option.
Yep never tried it until this year.
You can find it used/cheap!
I appreciate that you are willing to admit you were wrong about a curriculum but please don't continue to spread false information about it. Alpha is more than adding and subtracting. Is that the focus? Yes absolutely. But it also includes counting to 20, place value to 100, skip counting by 10, shapes, & has appendix lessons for telling time. Also the way Mr. Demme teaches adding and subtraction each lesson feels "different" because there is a new trick or tip you are using like the 8 and 9 vacuuming, doubles +1, ect.
Thanks for watching
