Lately, I've felt like I'm in quicksand, freeze mode, procrastinating. My wife recently passed away and it's been a major change and trauma in my life.
Save the ride home to get emotional, else you're making her moment all about you. It can be oppressive to young people to have to deal with the "Mommy's little baby is growing up" perspective. Even asking what she accomplished in her music career in the past year is very much giving you a report card. Sometimes progress, especially in the music field, can move in a non-linear way. It's hers to measure and reflect on however she may. Calendar years can be an artificial, over-achiever way of looking at life. It can also kill it.
