but in all seriousness, I always wonder what causes houses like this to become abandoned and run down. I always found the history behind that stuff to be interesting.

Same! There are sooo many beautiful homes that are destined to just rot and the owners don't care
foreclosing the banks take them tell the owner they can have them back for money they owe and they cant afford to pay so the bank just lets it sit and rot

Seeing abandoned places like this makes me really sad because at one time or another, this home was someone's pride and joy. They probably kept it clean and tidy and freshly painted on the outside ... and now look at it :( I would love to see places like this restored and given a new lease of life. The state of this house is so bad, Its ready to be demolished no way that its possible to restore it
The sheer amount of trees around the house that are a threat to it if a tornado, general storm with heavy winds or ice/snow came...that would be enough for me to not like the house even if it was newly built and in pristine condition.

The first time I saw it as a teen, my dad convinced me and my friend that the whole thing was real, raw footage 😂
The commercial also convinced me it was real...until I read it was not...

It's actually a good thing that the roof on the back of the house has fallen down because it covers up the well (aka the large gaping hole in the ground lol) perfectly so no explorers (or spray painters I guess) fall in accidentally 👌🏾.
