I actually have a theory about that. This happened just after Makuta absorbed Nidhiki, Krekka and Nivahk into his being to create that titan form. However, while their physical bodies were merged with his own, he still had to remove their consciousnesses from his mind, which took up half his focus. That's why he had to rely on the Shadow Hand in the battle. Most of his other powers require concentration and focus, both of which he couldn't afford to spare at the moment.
Also when you think about it. He think Its a good Idea too use the Mask of shadows. But this Mask dont push his own Shadow Powers. The same stupid Idea like Vamprah.
If Mask of Light and Metru Nui Makuta isn't a creeping and scary genius manipulator, strategical juggernaut, opportunist and masterful planner then nobody is.
I always get the shivers when Makuta says that line about his brothers, and it's like multiple voices talking... underlined by that faint choir in the background, which is then replaced by the more orchestral tune when Vakama declines the offer. I don't know, it's just epic somehow... And I will never stop loving this movie to bits. I still love it about as much as I did when I first watched it.

we all could probably agree that the vahi was a very underused mask, which may be a good thing. Because teridax could use it to travel back in time to alter the events of the past to his liking, so really if Vakama missed the shot to nock the vahi out of his hands, teridax would have donned the vahi which then he would have the power to alter the past and take Mata-Nui’s place as the great spirit.
So can we all agree that Makuta/Teridax himself is a great villain, but his Shadow Hand is the moronic one? You saw it bring down that huge rock on him. That was sooooo not his fault. He can't even dissipate it, only call it back to himself. IT WAS THE HAND!!!

Well, the official set of this form is 10202, Ultimate Dume. It was a combiner of Dume and Nivawk, Krekka, and Nidhiki. However, in the movie, to make his "Ultimate Dume" form, they just took set 8593, Makuta, and gave him wings.

You know what REALLY pisses me off? The fact that in this whole movie, they don't use their elemental powers. AT ALL. All they talk about is their 'mask power'. But they can just throw fireballs around and create earthquakes. So why don't they? THEY'RE TOA.
Um, what about creating a Toa seal at the end? That involves Elemental energy, and can only be broken with those same elemental energies(as shown by the Bohrok Kal's plan and Roodaka's plan in the next movie).
To be fair, they are kind of seen as Toa rookies, as in not yet skilled enough, so on top of what Thomas said, that also could play into the reason for this, and as to why their elemental powers were pushed back into the third film.
Basically what I’m driving at here is that since they’re trying to get used to being Toa, they hadn’t exactly found it within them to be able to use their elemental powers then.
A big problem, which is caused by not adapting Kazarani, the giant plant which the Toa pump their elemental power into to defeat, which leaves them drained for a bit.
I wish they would've included in Web of Shadows or in another movie how Vakama retrieves the Vahi. For those who don't read the books, they'd think the mask is gone forever

Being cursed by the Vahi, he would be greatly weakened, giving Vakama a chance against Teridax, but in exchange, Teridax had partial control of the mask, unwillingly either slowing down or accelerating time for himself or in the area. Your thoughts on this guys?

For people speculating about a Toa and its elemental powers: Yes the Toa Mata also needed to recharge. All Toa does :) It's in the lore and even Greg Farshtey has said so, I believe.

i always saw it as, despite being a mask maker, he could never know what powers a mask possessed unless he forged it, or it's labeled. As an example, lets use the mask of Shielding that Tahu and Lhikan both wore, you could say that it's instantly recognizable as the Mask of shielding because of it's shape, but what if the mask maker decided to carve it into the shape of a mask of strength, or a mask of speed, the shape never determines the powers and the powers never determine the shape, and likewise i believe the Toa Metru masks were uniquely shaped versions of those particular Great Masks as when they became Turaga, none of their masks except Nokama's even remotely resembled their Toa Masks

I admit, in the Past i like this Confrontation, but today its a little embarasing. He is defeated like a Loony Tune Charakter. Also the Animation of the Bodys in this Films is on some points realy good but in other just too Clumsy.

Heck, in that book(Time Trap), Vakama only managed to win the day after threatening to destroy the Mask of Time, making Makuta promise to leave the Matoran alone for a year(Vakama wanted it to be forever, but Makuta bargained to a year). Makuta kept his word, too.
