GPS localisation is accurate to a few meters, when that's turned on. The combination of WiFi, Bluetooth and LoRa localization might only be accurate to that orange ring, but it can also be quite accurate, depending on available signals. Better info from the makers at www.iotracker.eu/iotracker
but a lot more expensive comparatively, and li-ion are generally better for higher discharge loads. IOW, I am betting it was for cost savings and longevity.

Last for 10 years? The batteries would leak and damage the internals way before that.
