    Oh my. When you poured that hot sauce on the lasagna and the flame appeared I've burst into laughter and laughed for an inappropriately long time.

      One of my favorites is the pork sausage with maple syrup... The sausage itself is ok but it contains my favorite of all... Blueberry musselii (blueberry or banana) love it!!!!

    I can't believe you know so much about MRE meals.
    The reason that I subscribed is because you put so much effort into your video and you give your subscribers good quality MRE reviews. Keep up the good work !

    I think that for Lasagna-based MREs, they should include a packet of grated parmesan/romano cheese to sprinkle onto the lasagna.

    After eating almost every MRE menu offered, I've come to the conclusion that the vegetarian ones are actually the most flavorful. Perhaps they spice them up a bit more to offset the lack of meat, or perhaps the meat they use in MREs isn't the best. But the veggie entrees do taste remarkably good. The Boss is the first kid I've seen who doesn't like applesauce. Compared to her otherwise universal "YUMMY!" take on rather odd foods (like those Spanish sardines!) that's astounding.

    • @KiwiDudeMRE
      @KiwiDudeMRE  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Rocky Raab Hi Rocky, always good to hear from you. It certainly seems that the vegetarian MREs bring a little extra to the table in terms of taste. I found myself always skipping over the vege options, and to be honest didn't expect much when approaching this review. I was very pleasantly surprised!
      I've also given up trying to predict what Crystal will like or dislike, as she proves me wrong at every turn. I wish I was that adventurous with food at 4 years :-)

    Tootsie rolls are simply chocolate taffy, really chocolaty taffy. A great staple in every candy shop, and will be in my Halloween offering this year!

    • @KiwiDudeMRE
      @KiwiDudeMRE  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      jdniedner Up until I started trying U.S. MREs they were only something from the movies. It's always a good day when there's a Tootsie Roll in the pack ;-)

  • @Stagundo
    @Stagundo 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I always described Tootsie Rolls as "Chocotoffamel", because it is part Chocolate, part toffee, part caramel, in some mystical consistency of dough. Quite magical, really.

      @KiwiDudeMRE  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      1weirdgirl Most of the consumer rations contain the same items as what you'd find in Military MREs, so I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Let me know what you think :-)

    • @KiwiDudeMRE
      @KiwiDudeMRE  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      RicehXc I totally agree. For me (being a meat eater) a good vegetarian meal is one where I don't find myself missing the meat. Most vegetarian MRE's I've tried have succeeded in this regard.

    Just starting on your MRE reviews after I watched some of Gundogs, I find you MUCH more personable to be quite frank!, Of course I may be because I'm an Aussie, You have a lot of personality in these vids!.
    I wonder why I even watch them, I'm a chef, I have no idea, I just lost 2 hours to MRE videos today dayuuum!, where do you buy these things, can you get them from Aussie disposals or from Ebay?.,

    • @KiwiDudeMRE
      @KiwiDudeMRE  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      scampsfox I'm not sure about Aussie, but the most economical way I've found to get standard U.S. MRE's into New Zealand is from eBay by the case. Just search for 'MRE Case' and sort by 'Price + Shipping: Lowest FIrst'. From there it's just a matter of doing the usual checks about the seller's history and the product. Good luck with the search!

However when it comes to vegetarians, some people just can't really eat meat. My mother is a vegetarian because when she eats meat for some reason it makes her a little ill.

They weren't fudgy, but instead were made of a white-chocolate type base with fruit flavoring. The orange flavored ones were my favorite. Have you ever had a Tootsie Roll Pop? What is the most end all be all mre out there? Anything you have high on your wish list??
    Also what's the most expensive mre out there that you'd love to crack open

    • @KiwiDudeMRE
      @KiwiDudeMRE  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Joey Delma One of the highest rations on my Wish List at the moment is Indian, but realistically - any ration from a nation I haven't had is right up there at the top.I'm not sure which ration is the most expensive. The main cost usually comes down to the shipping, followed by the rarity. The French 24hr RCIR is fantastic quality ration, but they're plentiful, and therefore the prices are realistic. Finding one in a country nearby can work out great.

      John Egbert They're pretty easy to find, and eBay is a good place to start. The packs state that commercial resale is unlawful, but most of them are probably rotated out quite lawfully through Army surplus stores etc.. Someone more 'in the know' than myself may add to this comment.

  • @Jaybird196

    I don't know why you expected trouble from vegetarians about your comment on the meal, Kiwi. It seemed innocent enough to me :) . Seriously. If there is a veggie meal you need to be afraid of, it's the vegetarian omelet. Blegh! I don't know if even hot sauce could save it :( .
    Something that I think might be a good taste experiment would be to mix any of the cappuccino or other shakes with your coffee powder :) . It might taste good, and you'd get a little more bang for your buck, coffee-wise.
    BTW, tonight's meal: Pulled chicken sandwiches in BBQ sauce, BBQ Fritos corn chips, and blackberry cobbler for dessert WITH a handful of Girl Scout-style chocolate "Thin Mint" cookies! Muwahahaha! Envious >:D (ahem! 'Sorry. um..sadism off ;) ) ?

    • @KiwiDudeMRE
      @KiwiDudeMRE  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jaybird196 Ahhh.. the infamous vegetarian omelet I've heard so much about (or omelette as we'd spell it). The most recent MRE that contains omelette is 2008, so I guess there's a chance we'll cross paths :-) As for mixing the coffee, yes - I'm always finding the shakes to come up short on quantity, so adding the coffee should justify another 6oz potentially? Worth a shot, Am so jealous of your dinner and dessert. I spent yesterday eating kids' birthday food (chips, chicken nuggets, cocktail sausages etc...) Bleughhhh.

    • @Jaybird196
      @Jaybird196 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kiwi Dude Well, if and when you do cross paths, if you find it detestable, do spare Crystal (unless she agrees to test it, being the adventurous lil' soldier she is). I'm generally not a fan of cruelty to children ;) .
      Also, do let us all know how the coffee-shake experiment turns out, when you give it a try. I really do think it could be quite enjoyable :) .
      Oh, you poor sod. All of the foods you mentioned can be nice to snack on, or as a side to a main meal, but are not near as satisfying as a real dish with all the trimmings.
      BTW, I found yours and Crystal's enjoyment of the Tootsie-Roll candies to be charming. It always makes me happy to see this kind of cultural exchange, as opposed to insults, bombs, bullets, and blows (pleasant sigh) ^_^.

    • @KiwiDudeMRE
      @KiwiDudeMRE  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jaybird196 Lol.. Crystal's probably excluded from any Omelette taste test purely by virtue of the ration age (at least 6 years by now). I think 4 years is probably the outside limit of what I'd consider for her (and only if perfect etc..). We love those Tootsie Rolls! It's awesome to be trying these little slices of Americana that we've seen so often in movies.

      Kiwi Dude I went to my local army surplus. And I found a Vegetable Lasagna m.r.e.With a date code of 0270.It has the TOTM name on it. I also purchased a US government military brown bag menu 16 chicken FAJITA With a date code of 9222.If I read the date code correctly.they are between 5 to 4 years old I think.I'm going to try them out when I get around to it.PS question how old is too old on MREs

    • @KiwiDudeMRE
      @KiwiDudeMRE  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      xman577 Great stuff! You're correct on the age there too. MRE life expectancy is all about average storage temperature since it was made. It could be measured from months to decades depending on how cold it was kept. The Australian CR1M review was about the same age at these, and a good example of what can happen when exposed to high temperatures. Your MREs could be anywhere from perfect to inedible, but that's the game with rations. Fortunately, U.S. MREs are pretty hardy, so I'd be surprised if you have any major issues with them ;-) Let me know how you get on.

    And not that I want to diss the Kiwidude but there is coffee in this pack - what's the main ingredient in French vanilla cappucino I wonder...? OK maybe it's vanilla :)
    I must say this MRE has more sweet items than you normally see - I don't think that the vegetarians that I know have particularly sweet toothes, but maybe they do in the States??

    • @KiwiDudeMRE
      @KiwiDudeMRE  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pete Stean Lol! Fair call, I totally forgot about that during the tasting.I thought the same thing about the number of sweet items, but as I'm not a vegetarian it helped offset the fact that there wasn't any meat. I do have a bit of a sweet tooth though.

      ***** Lol.. I guess it really depends on each individual's normal daily 'schedule', but I'd say you'd be able to save up a few of these for when really needed. I really liked how the U.S.O care packages packaged a proper roll of T.P in it's own holder though. Nice touch,
