They builted me long time ago, in a prosperous era, i was the Dysart "lighthouse" landmark. From far away i could be seen for lost souls among fields.
For decades i could see our little town in the middle of nowhere grow. For our citizens,
Dysart was everything a man can ask for.
Yep for decades they feed me. Harry, always happy to let in a truck full of precious cereal in me. All kind i kept safely dryed stored.
When in the cold of winter, before starving, my precious load was dumped in train´s boxcar. Away they went, bringing some new empty ones.
For decades i did my best to keep Dysart a happy place. I remember when Raymore Credit Union opened as well as TNT Tavern. Saturday night could be quite lively around tavern.
I saw everything from first snowflake, to Christmas songs in the golden age club just in front of the tavern. It was funny to see those elderly leaving the club to sip a pitcher at the tavern, then back.
I remember a few rush at the fire station just beside.
I don´t know why or when exactly, Harry left. But suddenly i received less and less truckloads. One day, Harry locked the door and never came back.
I´ve no idea what it was about, trains where no more and after many Christmas and summer, the track was gone. In disuse i was. Neglect but as strong as ever in my hearth.
Dysart went in a real decline. Don´t know why, but less people on Main street. Weedy grass growing everywhere around me in the windy summer.
A bit asleep, i woke up one late fall morning with that yellow thing that just arrived. I was wondering what was for ? May be they´ll load me again, just like in Dysart golden days.
That yellow thing started to move toward Harry´s office. In no time it was gone. I couldn´t understand why ?
Then it start to play with my heel, then brake it. What´s for. If Harry was still there, it won´t let it happen. But Harry was gone since so many summers and winters.
Slowly that big yellow rat chunk me, pieces by pieces. The lighthouse that i was all my life, start to tilt slowly. I did my best to being standing up, but old, exhausted of fighting that yellow rat, i fall on my knees. So painful. Couldn´t understand what i did wrong to receive that punishment ?
All my woody and nails body was so tired. I had to stand up as a proud community grain silo i was...... once.... long time ago......when Dysart could count on me....
But i can´t . Too old and amputated, i look around for last time, the Dysart that i loved and helped to grow....
So long now, may be i should take a nap and relax for good.
After a few minutes, the big red giant finally quit and lie down for good.
No more the red silo, thinking himself like the field lighthouse, to show the path to lost strangers to find and be welcome in Dysart is gone for good as were Dysart golden days.
You were a good silo. You feed all the community and make farmers happy, but in modern days, you´re too old, too small. And trains gone to better location.
Just like you old friend, Dysart is slowly dying.
One day, only the wind and the grass will haunt Dysart remains.
    😢😢😢😢

My childhood house was directly across from that. Jon Firman in Lintlaw, SK makes custom bird houses and did one for me as a replica of the Dysart grain elevator after it was demo’d. It looks amazing. I’ll miss that old elevator.

On Google Earth, it´s still there.
On street view from the gravel road, it is as proud as ever.
On railway avenue, just like the track, it´s gone.

I like it that way. We can see differences. I just wonder if somewhere they keep all shot, if available or gone for good. Sometimes it´s street view that is late

It's a shame to see them go. My dad used to work for a company that moved grain elevators.

Unfortunately with the huge farms and operations these days one producer could fill that elevator and many rail lines to these small towns are abandoned just watched one get salvaged in Liberty sask
