    Love watching the machines work the hills/slopes. I remember cutting hills like that in West Central GA, by hand, then dragging them out with a cable skidder (took forever before my father promoted me from pulling chokers). Times have changed and looks like you guys are having FUN!

    Dam what a video. It’s crazy how much power that skidded has to pull that big of drags.

    Folks, that's why they bought that kind of track machine to cut on inclines and downhills. This is not the first video that Derrick has cut like this, I can remember of several that he cut like that.

    It’s easy to see how you guys are able to clear so much land when you don’t have breakdowns or wet ground. What a skilled crew you guys are.

    Thanks for the video! I am from Oregon and it is fascinating how other parts of the country do their logging. Times have indeed changed from even 40 years ago. I wanted to ask you why you do clear cutting and not select cutting? Also do you replant the areas you harvest?

    Its not steep country but man those machines are efficient. Times have changes since I've been in the woods. Even to this day it mostly boom and yarder work in my neck of the woods with guys falling and guys hooking.

    I cut a spot like that a few months ago with my 822. It was kinda agrivating cause I don't have a leveling system on it.

    I watched Goodsons All Terrain's new video today. Saw Simitrio take his Ford truck and pull another Big truck and lowboy out of mud. Bobby went on to say "if you want to ride in comfort buy a Chevy. If you want a truck than can work and do that then buy a Ford. But if you want a truck that can do neither then buy a Dodge", haha! Just had to pick on ya Tim. I want a truck that will last forever so I have a Toyota Tacoma.......

    If the cutter is ahead of the skidder then why does it matter if he tracks down the hill with them or not, he's working together not making it harder on the next guy down the line. It's always easier to be an arm chair seat cover and to tell someone how to lay them out, and yes I have a few hours of seat time myself.

    • @cotontop3
      @cotontop3  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s the problem, he is not ahead of the skidder. The skidder is picking it up as he is throwing it down.

    • @slickshick3526
      @slickshick3526 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cotontop3 sometimes it's nice to have the skidder right up on you to keep you cleaned out so the cutter has enough room to do our thing, but if he's holding up production that's something else too.

    If that hillside was too steep for the rubber tire cutter to thin, how do they go about replanting it?

    • @shawnschoppert8540
      @shawnschoppert8540 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A lot of trees are planted by hand down here

    • @kennethsheppard2921
      @kennethsheppard2921 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s where the track cutter comes in. You have to thin it with the track cutter when it’s to steep for the rubber tire cutter.

      They use them until they can’t anymore. I think Tim said what they cost in a video before, but I don’t remember. It might be like $5000.00 or $6000.00 each maybe more.
