    Here's an alternative idea. Get a sound engineer to design you a speaker system large enough to give great sound but still small enough to fit inside a box car that can go right behind the locomotive. The sound may not be quite so stunning but it is infinitely more practical for most model railroaders. Or if you still want us to put huge speakers under our layouts then give us other sounds they can play as well - sounds of the city, sounds of the countryside, etc. It would be great if the passing locomotive then added its own sound to the background ones. You could have downloadable sounds on your website and keep adding to them.

    I’ve been holding back on dcc and sound for over a decade and am happy with my kato sound box .. but now you guys added the sub and I hear you say things like correct sound files and I saw an h.o. Scale with smoke.. not only thAt but it seemed to chug smoke as engine speed increase.
    You guys are on another level.

    It's so evident you guys love your job. Do the new BLI Big Boys have paragon3? Can the wireless adapter be installed into non BLI locos? Another game changing product in my opinion. Keep up the great work; I suspect is not viewed as work as much fun you look to be having lol... nice, guys, very nice. I'm such a fan.

      Eric Mayo Thanks, Eric! We certainly do love our jobs. Yes, the new Big Boys are Paragon3 and as such will have Rolling Thunder capability. As for offering the technology for after-market, we are thinking about it. However logistically, it's not as simple as we'd like. For one, we have been attenuating low frequencies out of all our sound files until now so the small on board speakers do not waste energy attempting to make low frequency sounds they are incapable of producing. The actual sound data is deleted from our pre-Paragon3 sound boards for performance' sake. And while we can't be sure, our best guess is that other sound manufacturers are doing the same to their sound files to achieve maximum efficiency from their speakers. The end result is that even if we sell the transmitter, the systems to which they'd be mated may or may not have any sounds to play through the low end subwoofer. Hope that makes sense!

    Interesting. Five years ago in the local electronic shop I bought a micro radio device to be installed in the first wagon after the locomotive, a BR 39 DRG Fleischman, with sound-decoder. Sound to be transmitted to a sub-woofer under the layout. Then the course of life changed my little plans. I have still the devices and the locomotive. At those times I had also a "reserve plan", the plan B: instead to adapt the sound to the dynamic of the model, I adapted the dynamic of the convoy to the sound, extracted by an opportune video of live steam German locos, and played loud with bass speakers under the layout: amazing! I called it: "the sound-decoder of the poor people"... :-D [ps.: "the plans changed": today I wish to be missionary for Jesus in my city, but who knows, maybe a day will complete my real-sound BR 39].

    Will there be any type of retro fit for older Paragon Locos? I have quite a few Paragon and Paragon 2 and would love to hear them with this system.

    Can multiple locomotives use the sub simultaneously?

  • @SuperWHIZZO

    If you run a Paragon 3 rolling thunder equipped locomotive without the receiver/sub-woofer will it give a still decent sound like expected from a Paragon 2 spec locomotive ?

    Am I missing something here, this video was published on June 25 and we have until June 26th to pre order (1 day only).

      x47plm You're not missing anything. You're exactly right. We wish we could have created the video sooner, but we just got the latest version of the Rolling Thunder software we needed to create this video. Of course, the order deadline was announced long ago and is tied to our factory production schedule.

      Move the production schedule back. Everything is so bunched together. It makes no sense.

    Check out iPhone speakers . Some how they have this amazing 3D sound. They use a small plastic box
    This way the tweeter at least sounds good. I’ve had Samsung galaxy phone and iPhone and iPhone speakers sound superior and they are tiny .

  • @fairlandproductions4298
    @fairlandproductions4298 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do we have to have the box can't we just use the speaker in the engine

    • @BroadwayLtdTrains
      @BroadwayLtdTrains  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      tyco trains Yes, to have the low end frequency sounds, you will need both the receiver and a subwoofer (if you don't already have a subwoofer). The small 1.5 inch form factor of the on board speakers dictates that they can not produce sounds as low as the 8" subwoofer speaker.

  • @rayhagele

    This is a pretty hard sell for me. My smartphone has probably equal if not better speaker like in your engines and I couldn't "feel" the sub woofer at all. I plugged in my professional headphones and there wasn't a noticeable difference in sound quality.
    Don't get me wrong, I like the concept it just needs to be advertise in a different way. I need to see this at a convention or train show in order to know that its worth my time and money.

    • @BroadwayLtdTrains
      @BroadwayLtdTrains  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      rayhagele Ray, what you're experiencing is exactly the issue Rolling Thunder was designed to address. Modern smartphones certainly do have impressive sound for their size. And no doubt your professional headphones sounded even better than your smartphone. However, the physics of sound wave generation dictate that for true low frequency response, speakers must have sufficient surface area to move ample air. Phones and headphones can't move enough air. This is why there is a disclaimer on the video description to watch the video on a system with a subwoofer attached. It's only with a large speaker designed for generating powerful low frequencies that one can "feel" or even hear the stark difference. We hope you'll give it a try!

    Awesome! You guys should make an upgrade chip for older paragon 2 locos to also have the subwoofer

  • @dannyholt105

    Hmmm, I agree with someone else who said to add ambient sounds that can be downloaded, or purchased separately. The Thunder and Lightening is one example. Maybe another device that I can switch from city sounds, to passenger depot sounds, farm sounds, or even a logging industry. And of course we should be able to purchase more sounds to be uploaded as more are developed. Thanks. Cheers, Dan

    to bad the lightning and thunder effect doesnt have a tornado siren!

    Hi BLI! I know you have made a GS-4 with paragon 2. (Which I ordered from a store) and this is a lot to ask but can you make a GS-4 using paragon 3 inside of it and recorded the sound from the 261, can u make a GS-4 with rolling thunder? Thanks! Happy railroading! -Malachi

    Scare the crap out of people in n scale. Brought to us by BLI

  • @jonnyspeed
    @jonnyspeed 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Will Paragon 3 include upgraded sound files? BLI sound was once cutting edge, but if I'm being honest there are several DCC sound decoders on the market these days with better sound quality. Also, how does the subwoofer decide how much volume to give a particular loco? Does it have a proximity sensor or will it play the same volume regardless of where the engine is on the layout?

  • @adfgfds
    @adfgfds 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    I was under the impression that Rolling Thunder was going to be a better high bass speaker inside the locomotive itself. Is that part of it? Or is Rolling Thunder purely the box and subwoofer?

    • @BroadwayLtdTrains
      @BroadwayLtdTrains  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      adfgfds The on-board speaker technology in our locomotives is always improving however, the "Rolling Thunder" technology is strictly referring to the wireless transmission of low frequency sound effects to the separate receiver and attached subwoofer. It's only with a subwoofer that it is possible to generate the level of depth and quality sound we were trying to achieve.

    • @adfgfds
      @adfgfds 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      BroadwayLtdTrains I see. Will Paragon3 have high bass speakers inside the locomotive? Those really do make a large difference. Intermountain has them on theirs.

    Can you just get the receiver and buy any subwoofer for this ?

    • @BroadwayLtdTrains
      @BroadwayLtdTrains  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Matt Jenkins Matt, you can purchase just the receiver and match it to any subwoofer that has RCA level inputs. Or you can purchase the Complete Kit which includes our own subwoofer.

    • @BroadwayLtdTrains

      +Superseanbarry Rolling Thunder only operates with Broadway Limited Paragon3 equipped locomotives due to there being proprietary electronics in both the locos and the RT system required for functionality.
