Cheers, Kev. These comparison series you've been featuring as of late are well paced. They manage to answer questions potential buyers of either Blackland's offerings. I concur a truly light touch is required! I imagine using either a Perma-Sharp, or Zorrik SP for their smoothness and forgiving aspects. I believe the Dart is more fetching to my eye. The proprietary fit of the handle into the head give it the vibe of exclusivity. I'm also a fan of zero overhang; excepting vintage Gillette's of course. The shave kept me glued to the screen. Each pass put the combatants on their toes. The only element missing from this comparison was that the Blackland's weren't weighed. After all, both models are made from the same grade of stainless. I am dying of curiosity to know which is the heavier of the two. Even if it is a matter of a few grams. Executive Shaving's cream was sublime! It lathered like creme brulee. It also didn't require much water to bolster it's slickness. I noticed that they're very proud of their products in regard to price. I must admit that I've never seen a hair tonic used as after shave. The post shave balm performed equally as amazing as the cream. A very enjoyable, and informative session today. My gratitude for you taking the time to do it. We'll speak soon. 5,800+ subs? WOW!!
Hey Alex. Thanks mate. I had the weights of both of these razors written down on my notes....doh! I.ike doing these comparison vids. Both of these razors will shave you very well and will last a lifetime of cared for properly. Cheers. Kevy 😀👍
Nice shave Kevy, and a couple beautiful razors. I've got the answer for your question about Bay Rum: "In 1838, Danish chemist Albert Heinrich Riise became interested in this local remedy and discovered that by mixing St John bay leaf oils with fine Virgin Island rums, it created an amazing fragrance. His unique invention was awarded the Centennial Medal in 1876, as well as awards in New Orleans and Chicago." Source: The internet
H H an interesting background. Unfortunately nowadays a Bay Rum scent is Clove only, sometimes mixed with bay or spices, at best. I never picked up any Rum. I might have liked the original recipe.
@@kevyshaves4109 - xDD... exactly. Wasn't that your actual question xD. My guess would be Old Spice but, that's probably not specifically a bay rum. Cinnamon, but no clove... or Rum either, I guess xDD.... nevermind ;)

Good evening Kevy! Thank you for doing this comparison shave. I find the Blackland Dart more comfortable than the Muhle R41. Additionally, the BBS longevity is almost identical at 30 to 33 hours (sometimes up to 36 on rare occasions). I can use either the Dart or R41, yet comfort wise the Dart wins hands down. As to cost, everyone has the own limits, yet it is my considered opinion that the materials, workmanship, and shave quality makes the Dart a bargain at its price. I don't know which Blackland razor was the better shave vis-a-vis smoothness and closeness. They appeared to shave similarly, which is to say efficient and effective. For my face, I found if I load blade that is less sharp than average, to wit, a Rapira Swedish Supersteel blade, then shave with the Dart is super close and uneventful, i.e. BBS without the profuse bleeding. Finally, to your Bay Rum question: stjohnsbayrum.com/pages/history-st-johns-bay-rum That should answer your question about the origins. I found that the PAA Atomic Bay Rum is very nice. Perhaps when I visit I can bring a travel bottle of it for you to sniff and/or use. Anyway, thanks again for doing the comparison and sharing. Take care.
Evening Todd. Both great razors. Which one is better? Well, I guess it depends what you're looking for. I,would say the Blackbird is slightly less forgiving and a little bit smoother. The Dart has a nice blade feel. Both of these are perfect for a couple of days growth. I would say the Blackbird would be my preferred daily driver, but as you say, the correct blade choice in the Dart would work well for some. Cheers. Kevy 😀👍
@@kevyshaves4109 I agree that Dart is best on a couple days growth. Most aggressive/efficient razors need to be paired to the proper blade. That is such an individual thing too. I had a question to ask. There are established razor companies like Muhle, Merkur, EJ etc who are known (and respected) in the shaving community and make great products but do not necessarily spend on flashy packaging, exotic materials etc. Many of these still have the zamak heads. And then there are new kids on the block who are into this 'artisan' game and use titanium, have flashy designs and luxurious wooden boxes. Timeless, Blackland, Karve etc....Who or which tyoe of manufacturers do you think have a better chance of prospering in the future in terms of profitability, sales and customer satisfaction? Will the future be dominated by artisan products or the traditional companies can still hold their ground?
I think it will be a bit of both. Artisan razor makers have only really arrived on the scene in the last 3-5 years. I'm sure in years to come there will still be the mass produced razors as well as some new artisan razor makers. As technology improves and different materials and techniques improve and are discovered, the artisan market will always be here alongside the mass produced razors. Cheers. Kevy 👍

Hi Kevy, How does the Blackbird compare to the Masamune •63 and the Nodachi? I am toying with the idea of getting a Blackbird. 🤔🤔 Take care buddy, Dave.
@@kevyshaves4109 OK mate, thanks! I have gone for it and put the order in. I think it's a beautiful looking razor and your review plus others made up my mind for me. Last night I had a fantastic shave with the Masamune •63 with the open comb. 6 days growth removed really easily so it's very efficient. Would you rate the Blackland Blackbird higher than the two Masamune's? I had in a 2nd use Vikings sword blade and A&E St. Barts was the soap. You were right about those blades, really smooth and nice. Chris from CB Shaves reviewed the "A Best" blade today and loved it! Take care mate and stay safe. Dave.
Ok, one for sure, i won't try this stuff in my hairs 🙈 Funny 😁 I tried on Nacet blade. Everybody loves them. Mine sucked. I find the Nacet to be best with my EJ 89. For some reason, even the sharpest blades give me trouble when trying to get a BBS shave with the DE89 but Nacets seem to be perfect with it. Of course, you might have a bad batch. Some tell me Rapira Platinum Lux is a great blade but every one in the pack I have seems worthless and can barely cut hairs. If feels blunt during the first pass of the first use and I had to throw them away.
@@shave-a-thon3415 Funny, i ordered Rapira Platinum Lux too. After the bad shave i tested the Rapira. PERFECT shave. Loved them. Hi Kevy- Very nice shave and comparison of the two Blackland razors; thank you! Both razors seem like very nice pieces of gear. I also really enjoy using the Gillette Nacet blades- they are in my top five blades. I hope your week continues nicely and all the best!

You are a riot Kevy!😂😂😂 Great shave and now you have me looking at both razors for Christmas... THANKS A LOT KEVY! J/K Keep the videos coming 😀 thanks From here in California. Have a great day brother
Nice shave and nice razors Kevy. I really must try some Nacets and also the Gillette Silver Blue. I'll put some on with my next order for shaving gear.
Great shave and great comparison. I'm debating whether to get either a Blackbird or a Dart. It's a hard decision for me. Entertaining video as always, and nothing else to say, but have a good day
It depends what you want from the shave. The Dart has a little bit more blade feel than the Blackbird. The Blackbird is more expensive but to me, feels a little bit smoother. Both however, are brilliant razors. Cheers. Kevy 👍
Hey Kevy, I was sipping red wine and almost spit it out on my 27" iMac screen laughing out loud when you put the wig on. Nicely done!! In this comparison I was hoping you would state the differences rather than say they are both great. If both cost $99 would you say they are both the same or the Blackbird is worth $199 vs. $99 Dart. I'm thinking about getting one and leaning towards the Blackbird but if you can't tell a difference between the two then may not be worth it. Thanks! Cheers, Mark
Lol! I hope you didn't spill too much of your wine! There are subtle differences in these two razors. The Dart has a bit more blade feel than the Blackbird. I think the Blackbird is more expensive coming in at $185. So,e people think the Dart is too efficient to be a daily driver and I would agree with that for my skin. The Blackbird, I think, could be used as a daily driver. It just feels that little bit smoother. I guess it all depends on what you want from your shave as to which one of these razors will suit you best. Cheeers. Kevy 👍
Perfect. Thanks for that explanation and comparison. I was also thinking the Blackbird would be worth it if its a daily driver and smoother. I also like the handle more and like that it's not as long as the Dart handle. I also much prefer it polished and shiny. :-) Thanks for the quick reply!
Great shave Kevy!!! I’ve had my eye on these two razors for a little while now. If you had to pick one, which one would it be? I’m trying to make my Christmas list!!
Nice one Kevy. Blue is definitely your colour. I did notice that your camera was slightly out of focus at times or at least looked like it was trying to refocus a lot. Hopefully its not my eyes going and just tweaking something on your setup for next time...
Good shave Kevy, I'm just waiting on mail call from Executive Shaving with my bay rum cream. Haha, I'll need to try that Boots bay rum on my scalp after shaving it to BBS. Miracles may occur! 😂
Thanks for the laugh Kevy, that blue hair looked good on you. Ha. God you make the best videos. I might have to get one of these razors. I was searching in your videos for brush reviews but I cannot find any. Can I ask a favor for you to do a brush review. I am looking to get a new brush but having a hard time because there are so many choices.
Thanks for the comment. Glad it made you chuckle. I don't often do brush reviews, maybe I should give a bit more info on the brush in my vids. If you're looking for a new brush I would look at some of the Yaqi synthetic brushes. I think West Coast Shaving has them on their site. Brilliant brushes, beautiful handles and the knots are super soft and easy to care for. Cheers. Kevy 👍😀
Hello Sir, Great shave as always. I really liked the comparison between the two razors, perhaps I will get one 1 day. Loved your hair at the end sir, was very very funny😉 Thanks a ton for the shoutout sir, I really appreciated, even my wife was soo happy with the shoutout, thanks a lot. See you next time sir. Thanks Zuber
Nice shave Kevy. I have the Dart and find it a bit too aggressive for my skin, not comfortable enough to use every day. It's a fine razor for the occasional shave. Is the Blackbird less aggressive? Yeah that looked like a really close shave, bet you're still smooth tomorrow... Great video and comments again. Enjoy!
I don't think I could use the Dart as a daily shaver either Terry. Great for a couple of days growth. The Blackbird has less blade feel and does feel like it has a little less bite to it but they both perform very well. Cheers. Kevy 😀👍
@@kevyshaves4109 Are those machine marks on the Dart base plate to save on costs (as you said) at 1:38 into the video. or are the plates just not sanded and smoothed sufficiently? For those who aren't aware, if you type the time of the video in the comments area, clicking on the time stamp will take you right to that point.
I think they aren't finished to perfection. I guess it would cost more to polish out all the machining marks, and this would push up the cost of the razor. Kevy 👍

Thanks. Yes, I'm not sure what was going on with the focus at some points in the vid. I'll need to check the settings on the camera. Hopefully it will be sorted for the next video. Cheers. Kevy 😀👍
Still suffering from The CRUD, nasal congestion, cold & flu symptoms, body aches, etc. Not fun. Shaving is my one solace from feeling yucky and uploaded a video on my channel.
If all these smaller companies can make stainless steel razors for $100, why can't the larger manufacture them for the price they charge for their chrome plated alloys? Surely, Merkur and Edwin Jagger can issue quality stainless steel razors for $50 to $60. I don't know why Edwin Jagger is so satisfied with varations of the DE89 and not one open comb, adjustable or stainless steel razor in their catalog.
I think they are missing a trick here with not producing some of those razors you mentioned. They have a good enough name and following. If they were to produce a TTO or an open comb, I'm sure they would sell very well. Cheers. Kevy 😀👍

Homework....Coincidentally, I read the article in the attached link about 2 weeks ago so some of the details were fresh in mind when you asked the question. That said, here is a brief excerpt, "A Short History Of Bay Rum The origins of bay rum can literally be traced back to smelly sailors of the 1500’s. You didn’t read this wrong. Traveling through the Caribbean on ships without air condition in the middle of summer can lead to some unfavorable conditions. The smell was unbearable and it led some sailors to try and mask it with products they found through their travels." Thanks Simon, and cheers for letting me know the info about Bay Rum. All the best. Kevy 😁
You are a riot Kevy!😂😂😂 Great shave and now you have me looking at both razors for Christmas... THANKS A LOT KEVY! J/K Keep the videos coming 😀 thanks From here in California. Have a great day brother
Lol! Thanks for the comment. Cheers. Kevy 👍
Nice shave and nice razors Kevy.
I really must try some Nacets and also the Gillette Silver Blue. I'll put some on with my next order for shaving gear.
Thanks. The Nacet are very good blades, as are the Gillette silver blues. You won't go wrong with either. Cheers. Kevy 😀👍
Nice looking hardware, particularly the Blackbird.
The guys who say “I’ll never pay that much for a razor” haven’t been wet shaving for very long
What is the point of buying this Blackbird thing if you have a chance to buy Timeless for this and even less money?
Great shave and great comparison. I'm debating whether to get either a Blackbird or a Dart. It's a hard decision for me. Entertaining video as always, and nothing else to say, but have a good day
It depends what you want from the shave. The Dart has a little bit more blade feel than the Blackbird. The Blackbird is more expensive but to me, feels a little bit smoother. Both however, are brilliant razors. Cheers. Kevy 👍
With that wig on you reminded me of the Scottish comedy The Still Game. I’ll leave you to guess which character. 🤣🤣
Isa? 😂
@@kevyshaves4109 hadn’t thought of her🤣🤣
Hey Kevy, I was sipping red wine and almost spit it out on my 27" iMac screen laughing out loud when you put the wig on.
Did you buy them direct from Blackland, and stomach the import VAT and delivery, or are they available in the U.K.?
I bought them from someone in the UK that was selling them, but I think import fees due get charged a lot of the time. Kevy 👍
Great shave Kevy!!! I’ve had my eye on these two razors for a little while now. If you had to pick one, which one would it be? I’m trying to make my Christmas list!!
Hi James. If I HAD to pick one, it would be the Blackbird. Just feels that little bit smoother to use than the Dart in my opinion. Cheers. Kevy 👍
Nice one Kevy. Blue is definitely your colour. I did notice that your camera was slightly out of focus at times or at least looked like it was trying to refocus a lot. Hopefully its not my eyes going and just tweaking something on your setup for next time...
Cheers Sid. I'll check the settings on the camera for the next vid. Kevy 😀👍
nice shaving Kevy,beautiful razor!
Thanks Marco. Kevy 👍
Good shave Kevy, I'm just waiting on mail call from Executive Shaving with my bay rum cream. Haha, I'll need to try that Boots bay rum on my scalp after shaving it to BBS. Miracles may occur! 😂
Cheers Craig. You never know, the hair tonic might do the trick. Cheers. Kevy 😂👍
Would have been so dissapointed if you hadnt made fun of the hair tonic 😂!Great shave Kevy always fun watching yer videos!
Thanks Andreas. I always like to try and have a bit of fun in my vids...as I'm sure you know! Lol! 😂 Cheers. Kevy 👍
I think there must be some ingredients in the hair tonic not listed on the label! I gotta get me some of that stuff. LOL
Ha ha! There must be something special in it! Cheers. Kevy 😀
@@kevyshaves4109 I was trying to figure out if your were Paul, John, George or Ringo!
😂😂
Great shave as usual I only use synthetic brushes you are a riot 😅
Love long videos!!! Not so much razor comparison vids, but you can't win them all. 😂
Back to normal for the next vid Javier. Cheers. Kevy 👍
Cheers. Kevy 👍😀
Hello Sir,
Great shave as always.
I really liked the comparison between the two razors, perhaps I will get one 1 day.
Loved your hair at the end sir, was very very funny😉
Thanks a ton for the shoutout sir, I really appreciated, even my wife was soo happy with the shoutout, thanks a lot.
See you next time sir.
Thanks
Zuber
Hi Zuber. Thanks for the kind words. No problem with the shout out, you deserved it for your generosity. Cheers. Kevy 👍
Kevy Shaves hello sir,
You’re welcome.
Thanks again for your kind words too.
Thanks
Zuber
Kevy 👍
I must say I really like the Dart for some reason !
Very nice and funny video, thank you.
Probably scared Riley to death.....nice brush....$$$ razors....more gifts I see....to be honest I fell asleep 3 times before I got to the end...I was testing a new Wiskey my wife had bought me...."Tin Cup"...smooth. Then I woke up and you had hair...Thought I was dreaming....no just Kevy acting out his dreams. "Hair"...lol. Good shave Kev
Glad you tested that Particular blade. I'm ready to order some. And they sounded good.
I put so many things on my face at any given time. I always refer to my cockapoo for approval "Miss Sadie"
If she likes it..the wife will approval...lol...till next shave minus any hair..it suits you ...cheers! 🎲🎲
Lol! Go easy on that whisky! Cheers. Kevy 😀👍
Great shave as always, Kevy! Blackland is producing some great razors. Blackbird is still my favorite. Are you going a little blurry in the vid, Kevy? Or is it just me?(still early for me. lol)
Hope you feel better soon Jill. Get some menthol soaps whipped up. Cheers. Kevy 😀👍
Nice shave Kevy! 💈🍻 (heads off to get litres of hair tonic)
Cheers Paul. Don't use too much of the hair tonic! Lol 😂
Cheers. Kevy 😀👍
Kevey, you are s very funny man! Great shave! You sir have a merry heart! May the Lord be with you in all you do! (VLS)
Thank you! 😀👍
Blue hair! Reminded me of a Benny Hill skit 😆
That was hilarious! Soo funny. This is just one of the reasons I follow your channel. Have you ever tried WSP (Wet Shaving Products) soaps? I used their Matterhorn Formula T this morning (I've got a sample from a friend) -- SUPER SLICK! I may have to get a full tin of that. Have a great week, my friend!
Thanks Jack. I have some WSP soap. I have the vetiver scent. Good soaps. Cheers. Kevy 👍
Today is my birthday
Happy Birthday! Hope you have a wonderful day!
Happy Birthday, joy
Happy birthday Joy. I hope you have a special day celebrating. All the best. Kevy 😀👍
happy Birthday Joy Ghosh....have a good day mate
Hey! Happy Birthday budd enjoy the day :)
Your so funny 🤣 my friend cracking me up wow 😮 the feedback the sharing council approves both razors and cream brushes wow 😮
nice video pal, great looking razors. I'm the same with the R41, just not for me, it was 'OK' with a astra green. I have a unboxing on my channel today of a new brush and razor, and a razor you may of seen as i got it from the gentleman's groom room, LTD colour fatip razor :)
Hi Karl. Just watched your vid. I bought one of those razors from the Groom Room a couple of weeks back. Not tried it yet. 😀 Looks very nice eh? The EJ badger brush looks great. Good price you got it for. Cheers. Kevy 😀👍
@@kevyshaves4109 thanks kevy. Ye it not as aggressive as people have been saying imo, but i have just used a astra sp green blade and its a good pairing for it if/when you get to try it :)
I need that hairdress right now😀
Ha ha!
For your personal safety, avoid both the hair and a kilt out in public - too many boys would find you ... cute ...
Great video & I'm kinda looking at the Blackland Dart now.
😂😀👍
My colleague found me watching a shaving video of Kevy. He says WTF? Why are you watching someone else shaving? I was like, it's my fetish, my guilty pleasure. :)))
🤣👏
Great Shave Brother! 💈😅🤙🏼💈
Cheers Manny! 👍
“Do it again Kevy, do it again!” Serious face, “no.” Loved it.
Am I the only Nerd who watches most revew vdeos all the way through?
No. There are two of us! Lol! 😂
Put the closed captioning on. You'll find that CC Kevy is offering an entirely different experience.
Even funnier when you watch a flash boredom video.
You're not alone Jill lol!
@@sheshaveswithjill4838 I'll have to try that with his videos, too! Does the closed captioned version of Flash cover world politics, social relationships, theology and health topics the way that closed captioned Kevy does, with a few expletives thrown in for good measure? 😉
Jack Sparrow did the first bay rum batch..He drank the rum so maybe it does not count..

LMAO!!!!!!! That's a hell of a hair tonic!
Works a treat for a few minutes! 😂👍
Hey Kevy! Have you tried the Gillette Super Thin blades out of Thailand? They are top notch blades that no one ever talks about. I ordered a tuck from razorbladesclub.com and I'm really enjoying them.
Hey Brandon. I haven't tried those blades. I'll have a look for some reviews. Thanks for the heads up. Cheers. Kevy 😀👍

Ya look a right little floosie with that blue wig on. Doing anything on Saturday?
Ha ha! Thanks. No, I'm free on Saturday. What time are you picking me up? 😂

7pm, red light area, same corner as usual. Don't forget to wear your black sussies and fishnets. Wooo! It's gone all hot in here!
I'll see you there. Are you wearing your gimp mask as usual? 😂
Kevy Shaves
Yes, and my barbed wire underpants and my frogman flippers. The usual, nothing too weird or pervy.
Good stuff. You don't want to stand out from the crowd on the street. 😂😀👍

That’s was so funny 🤣 my friend thanks for the funny
Kevy may be a little thin on top but you ought'a see his bedhead.
It was Taylor of old bond street.
jimcofer.com/2017/02/17/the-manly-history-of-bay-rum/ Here is a link to a good summary of the history of bay rum scent. As for that tonic, you could have almost become a millionaire if you started importing it to the Americas. Too bad it doesn't last that long. But the razors worked out nicely. Cheers Kevy!
Thanks for the link. Yes, it's a pity thenhair tonic didn't last! 😂 Cheers. Kevy 😀
@@kevyshaves4109 Not only was that hair tonic more potent than Rogaine/Regaine or Propecia/Finasteride, but it also renewed your hair coloring! Amazing stuff!
Homework....Coincidentally, I read the article in the attached link about 2 weeks ago so some of the details were fresh in mind when you asked the question. That said, here is a brief excerpt, "A Short History Of Bay Rum
The origins of bay rum can literally be traced back to smelly sailors of the 1500’s. You didn’t read this wrong. Traveling through the Caribbean on ships without air condition in the middle of summer can lead to some unfavorable conditions. The smell was unbearable and it led some sailors to try and mask it with products they found through their travels."
And the full article is here:(Enjoy) sharpologist.com/2018/10/bay-rum-shaving-stuff.html
Thanks for the link. A very interesting read. Sounds like Bay Rum has been around for a lot longer than I thought. Cheers. Kevy 😀👍

Hi Bojan. You're correct, it was going in and out of focus at some points. I'll need to check the settings on the camera. Hopefully it should be ok for the next vid. Cheers. Kevy 👍
