Authentic to the compositions and tasteful improvisation! you can tell Peter knows the song inside and out and actually understands it too, just like his guitar.
Peter Bernstein knows how to play Monk! I've never heard any guitarist bring the true essence of Monk thru his playing like this man. He is a consummate guitarist, knows the instrument so well and plays over the tune. He means every note! Thanks for sharing! Loved it!
Great stuff, just wondering when jazz will move beyond 1971, everyone plays great. Then again most genres do hit some kind of wall or barrier. And then people seek out the best interpreters, or somebody like Peter who is unique in playing Monk stuff on guitar. Pretty hard to do that on guitar, so hats off to him,

Check out Miles Okazaki - put out a record of all 70 monk compositions for solo guitar
Totally agree. He puts in those quirtky chord voicings/changes that make it sound like Monk on the piano. NICE!
Monk for me is a wonderland of curiouser and curiouser joy and Bernstein has that exactly.
fantastico. muchas gracias! 💯
You da man, Pete! Dig your Monk the most!
What a trio!

Is he laughing because of the dissonant parts ala Monk and the reverse strumming ala Kessel? 😳
The bassist seems to be heavily influenced by Buster Williams
