    While your wife may not notice that grain match and wrap it's a detail that sets this box apart. I've noticed my wife wouldn't call something like that out but if I showed her two boxes, one with a detail like that and one without she'll like the grain matched box. There's something about it that's more pleasing to the eye even if they don't realize all the extra work that went into it. Nice project Kevin!

      Thanks Keaton. My wife loves the box and when she watched the video she appreciated the effort. Us woodworkers should definitely point out the cool stuff instead of just pointing out our mistakes!

    Beautiful box. I sure hoped to see you sign the bottom of it. My wife would never notice the four way grain match, but I would see it every time I looked at the box. Love your videos!

      Hi Kevin, don’t know you at all.
      But I was thinking exactly the same as Bob.
      I would like to add that I really like your style of presentation, calm and very informative.
      If I eventually end up with half off your skill set (and half of your shop and tools)😊, I would be very proud.

    A beautiful box. Like any piece, most people will see but not notice all the details that make a project like this more beautiful as a result. You fid make it in time for Eastern Orthodox Christmas, btw. Did the gift challenge specify which Christmss was the deadline?

    Really been loving your videos. Box came out great. You’ve got me wanting to try the Osmo top oil now.

    • @quillwoodworks
      @quillwoodworks  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, TWC. I’m essentially down to two finishes now. Shellac and the Top Oil. The Top Oil is a little pricey but a little goes a long way. I’ve never tried its direct competitors like Rubio Monocoat. I imagine they’re very similar but I have my technique down with the Osmo product so…if it ain’t broke. Thanks again for watching!

    That fourth cut for separating the lid always makes me nervous. I usually make the last two cuts a little less than all the way through. You made it look easy though...

    • @quillwoodworks
      @quillwoodworks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m a big fan of the spacer that’s inserted after the third cut. Does a nice job of pivoting the lid away from the blade as it is set free. Still stressful though!

    • @tomjudkins3799
      @tomjudkins3799 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@quillwoodworks i assume you are putting pressure against the fence by pushing against the top half of the box above the spacer, but "not to much pressure"

    • @quillwoodworks
      @quillwoodworks  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’m sorry, Tom. I forgot to answer this. Yes, the spacer acts as a pivot point. A little pressure against the fence so when the cut is complete the now-released top pivots out of the way of the blade.
