    I have this pedal; it really shines when I go straight to the effects loop return on my Carvin v3 combo. Its like i have the silvertone, but I can lay into it and give it the abuse I want to, at any volume

    Yes, more reviews like this & history lessons. With all that extra space, I wish it had reverb and tremelo like the original. I played both the 2x12 and 6x10 Silvertones amps in the 60s. I couldn't afford a Fender, but they "fit the bill." Thanks again.

    That circuit board is Sparse as all heck. Man you could fit a tube screamer on that board. I would not recommend using it but it would be cool to fill up the space.
    For real talk I will say that something as basic as a treble booster... the right gain and bias adjustments can make that into an almost octave fuzz thing.. so simplicity is.. powerful. That amp breaks up soo harshly but it does have a flavor. The clipping is so overt it's like having a salsa with whole lime wedges in it that keep breaking the chip as you try to dip.
    Nice video!!

    Nice! Thanks for sharing. Kinda wish I had the budget just to buy and support the whole idea of this existing, when it came out.
    I quit guitar maybe 8yrs ago when I just got tired of the whole scene. I sold everything (a lot of high end shit) to a dealer I knew well, but somehow saw a silvertone hollowbody jazzbox type thing. I set aside some of the money I was getting and asked for the guitar as part of the exchange. Put flatwounds on it, even added a TV jones pickup in there. Until this day, I’m not sure what made me bring it home since I was quiting music that same day.. but it brought me a lot of simple joy once in a while noodling with it. Eventually sold it back to the store. Now almost a decade later, I’m back trying to relearn music again and I only wish I had more photos of that guitar that kept me company all that time. Silvertones and Kays etc.. they really were good stuff and way more guitar than most people think they deserve/need.

    Oh man, that partscaster. I’ve been having serious Tele gas, and that feeds the flame. Very nice. Hey, great video, Jeff! I love the history lesson portion, so more of that please. Cool pedal. I recall when it came out, I was immendiately smitten with the aesthetic. Is it big? Yes. Is there tons of unused space inside? Yep. But anything smaller would change the look and “feel.” I’m a graphic designer by day, and I lost count long ago of how many times a client has said, “There’s lots of white space, so let’s fill it up!” Ugh. Anyway, I really dig the sound of that thing. It’s part overdrive, part distortion, but neither really. It’s just a gnarly breakup, and it’s pretty glorious. Thanks for the breakdown! Cheers!

    • @StompboxBreakdown
      @StompboxBreakdown  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thank you so much! I was thinking about doing a video about the parts selection and building of the Partscaster, as there's been a lot of interest. Maybe I'll save that for a rainy weekend, as there are some really interesting things about it (but also a few things I want to fix before I start really showing it off).
      Yeah, I totally get not wanting to fill space just because we have space. The outer aesthetics, I think are great. It's a lot heavier than you might think, and the jewel light looks way nicer than is showing up in the videos. They really nailed it, I think. Even the smaller typeface above the foot switch.... it's just nicely balanced, it looks like something I would have seen in my grandfather's ham radio room.
      And yeah, the sound took some getting used to, basically I tried to be cognizant of where my playing dynamics were entering breakup, and when they were pushing it to the point of overdriving the entire signal. Fortunately, there's a lot of room to explore in there.

    • @astrodadmusic
      @astrodadmusic 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@StompboxBreakdown I too find the aesthetics of the pedal quite attractive. And, yes, the typography is nicely done. You did a fantastic job bringing its tones into your jam. I get it. There have been plenty of times I’ve tried a new pedal to find its outside of my “normal” playing, so I have to find a way to adjust. And that usually entails some level of new inspiration, whether it’s a new song or just a fun little riff.

    I have this pedal as well. I absolutely adore it. Was a bit odd seeing how tiny the circuit is. I’m a big fan of Ty Segall, White Stripes, Velvet Underground and Death Cab. It sounds so unique compared to my other overdrive pedals, it occupies this unique space of not quite being a tweed amp and not quite being as cleanly as a black panel fender amp.

    Its ONLY the Silvertone Preamp 1484 section, NOT the Silvertone Power Amp section also? Does the silver 1484 get that chimey sparkle top end or the EQ tone circuit doesn't do much? I think this pedal is to get those grunge breaking up tone of the 90s grunge area?

    • @StompboxBreakdown
      @StompboxBreakdown  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It can get pretty chimey with the high end pushed, but I think for the most part, it's for that all-around breakup sound. They may be including the poweramp stage, as it's tied to the volume knob, but looking at the schematics of the 1484, it'd just be an additional gain stage.

    • @waynegram8907
      @waynegram8907 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@StompboxBreakdown So no poweramp stage? because I don't see any audio output transformer in the guitar pedal?

    • @StompboxBreakdown
      @StompboxBreakdown  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@waynegram8907 Correct, there's no speaker output and no transformer. So if the power amp stage is emulated, it's done through the inclusion of a JFET tied to the volume knob. It's meant to deliver the character of the 1484 in a pedal form which can be plugged into another guitar amp.

    • @waynegram8907
      @waynegram8907 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I guess I am a little ambivalent about this pedal. Clearly, it isn’t a 1484 Silvertone amp, and it does have a unique sound. The enclosure is kind of campy in its own way but seems unnecessary. I don’t mean the pedal is “bad”, but it doesn’t come across to me as being a product I would want because of the way it is packaged and marketed. Good sound, but the rest is lost on me, I guess
