Love your pillow & can tell we like some of the same things in needle point. I spent 3 years as a young girl in Japan & learned so much besides all types of needle work & fiber arts. Doll making of traditional Japanese dolls, flower arrangement. So many years later ,looking at my home you can tell that has had an enormous influence on my decorating ideas. It has certainly been a labore of love after almost a forty year marriage of two artists we have no empty surfaces to cover . I am just finishing the last sweater after knitting all 5 grandchildren ski-sweaters for their Christmas gifts. I have health issues with my eyes & my hands ,so I rotate what hand crafts I do as well as my hand exercise. Knitting in the round in one color , I can rest my eyes or even switch to machine sewing. I just have to have thread or yarn as part of my day. If I paint during the daylight, I feel guilty I didn’t spend enough time on my needle work.
This video is my first time hearing about Kaffe Fassett so thank you for the introduction! I am now obsessed and going to spend all my money and time on these projects hahahaha
Good news on the price front: Kaffe cushion kits at Ehrman are usually around £70 for a square shape and that would include all the wools plus the fabric with the pattern already printed onto it (much easier). Better again, wait for the January sales at Ehrman, which are tremendous. This fanshaped cushion is not currently in the range, but it is a printed pattern in one of Kaffe's books (not sure which one, but have a look at local bookstore and library). Many of his books are still in print but also in the UK available secondhand for under £5. It's a great pattern and bravo for accomplishing it. I recently visited his current exhibition in Edinburgh: "Kaffe Fasset: the Power of Pattern" and the glorious finale was a huge stacked wall of completed needlepoint cushions: stunning.
It’s gorgeous! You did an amazing job. 🌟 I love this so much that I searched high and low and found the chart on eBay UK and can’t wait for it to arrive!
His book Glorious Needlepoint has some charts like those that can be reproduced and enlarged to work off of for a variety of projects. AbeBooks is an easy way to find any out of print stitching books if an aging needlepointer hasn't already heaped you with a small library.
That is really pretty, I've been doing cross stitch, I got a bit bored of crochet after years of doing it. I'm definitely going to try this out though. Thank you for your inspiration ❤
Beautiful! I love needlepoint, even though I've only done a few smaller pieces so far, and all from vintage kits. I'm going to have to keep an eye out for Kaffe Fassett's books. His use of color is fantastic!
Can you please tell me where you found the gridded canvas? I never knew this canvas came gridded! If you did it yourself can you tell me the process please! Thank you so much and lest I forget your work is beautiful! Thanx for sharing it!
I actually gridded it myself according to the chart I was working from. I think I counted the amount of holes each chart square had on my pattern and then corresponded it to my canvas holes and just made lines wherever it matched in my pattern. . Just repeated until I had mapped it out. I used a permanent marker. Hope this helps. If I do another needlepoint project I ll talk through this step.
That turned out so lovely. I’ve done some needlepoint cushions as well, but on stiffer canvas. The canvas you’ve used looks so much more comfy for a cushion.
I made Honeyman’s fan kit, expensive. It had no roses like the gorgeous one shown here. I was very disappointed in the ugly colors, turned out drab, so I’m backing it with hot pink moire and some gold and black braid trim.
I have looked “high and low” for the pattern. Do you know the title of the book where it maybe published? eBay doesn’t have a paper pattern. A kit would be perfect. Thank you.
Hey sorry you've had no luck. I sold my original pattern I used. But the pages I worked from was from a book. The reverse page had a pattern for a latch hook 'flowers rag rug' and a 'flowers collage screen' so I think your best bet to find the book this was from would be one his books that contain multiple interior projects not specifically needlepoint or knitting books. So maybe give . Glorious interiors . Welcome home . Glorious colour A go as I believe they have multiple crafts in them. Hope this helped somewhat. If not Ehrman do lots of kits of his.
This pattern is in the book Glorious Interiors. I just purchased it online for this pattern alone, but there are other beautiful projects there as well!

This is beautiful and thank-you for sharing how you made it into the final cushion. A great video ❤
He is the best! I've heard of him over 30 years ago.
This should be framed. Its beautiful
wow, this pillow is so well executed and love the bold colors. your orange fabric indeed a perfect partner.
Honestly, Kaffe Fassett is the William Morris of our day.
This is so lovely! What a wonderful project to have worked on. Thank you for sharing.
Such a gorgeous labor of love!

Fabulous! I’m inspired to try my hand at needlepoint. I’m currently working on an appliqué quilt using Kaffe Fassett fabrics. 💝

That's great. Enjoy your new project it's a fun one.

Beautiful piece. I stitched Fassett’s Geisha from his Glorious Needlepoint book. The book is full of wonderful patterns.
Ahh gorgeous I've got to get ahold of that book.

Yes his books are gorgeous definitely worth it if your after more patterns and inspiration.
@@TasminBassettArt I also just love collecting vintage craft books. Even if I can't make it all, I love looking through them.
Gorgeous work! : )
Fabulous:) extremely difficult to do without a pattern.
Hand painted canvas goes much easier! I, in awe that you transposed on a grid
Thanks. Yes I'm aware of them now. Didn't really know the painted grids were a thing when starting. Fair few stitch adjustments was necessary tho.

Thanks so much. Yes it's super comfy. Just need a colourful armchair to match x

can you tell me where you got the kit/pattern from? I have been searching for this pattern forever! :-)
hi i believe the fan pattern is in the book Glorious Interiors by Kaffe Fassett.
@@TasminBassettArt thank you. I had the book all along, and I found it!! 😂
What kind of canvas do you use, it looks soft not stiff?
I think its made from cotton. It's called needlepoint canvas I got in 10 point count.
