Interstellar is my favorite movie, I’ve seen it hundreds of times but one scene that always makes me emotional is when Murph asks her Father if her left her there to die because I know every child’s worst fear is to be abandoned by their parents, it doesn’t matter how old they are.
As a science teacher myself, somehow this movie slipped under my radar, and I never saw it until about a year ago. My mother had recorded it, and insisted I watch it since that's my field. In particular, she asked me to pay attention and see if I could understand the ending, because she was completely confused by it. So, I sat down and watched it with her, and I was impressed that I guessed what was going to happen at the end about an hour before the movie ended. I'll admit I was a bit confused at the start, but soon caught on to the main idea. She couldn't believe it, LOL. She was like, "There's no way you can know how it's going to end." Anyway, I thought it was a phenomenal film, from multiple points of view. All of the actors did an amazing job, the story was powerful and compelling, and the special effects, wow, absolutely mind blowing. I need to watch it again. Have a good one.
Still is my favorite movie! Not one part of the movie I don’t like, the part that tugs my heart every time is when he finally sees his daughter again. Such a pure moment for a movie , feels so real every time

Interstellar is the best film ever to be made, not only is it a masterpiece by every micro-elemental film aspect, along with the mesmerising film score by Hans Zimmer but the effort, time, hard work and SCIENCE put into this film is fucking mind-blowing I'm scared we'll never have a film maker like Nolan after he goes... Living God.
They way Tyson describes science with his passionate hand motions, I think it would be complete acceptable for him to start describing porno's in the same manner.
We need more films like Interstellar and people like NDT. Interstellar is mindbending af but has so much amazing stuff in it. And Neil is just so damn good at explaining some of the craziest (astro)physic themes with enthusiasm in an understandable manner for someone with basic education.

I see passion everywhere in this video. Tyson talking about science and the movie so passionately. And interviewer so passionately learning on the spot.
I recently found a potential solution to the, "Why would the only viable planets be near a black hole?" complaint, because all that question really reveals is a misunderstanding of the plot, as recall, *SPOILERS* it was 5th dimensional *humanity* who put the wormhole there in the first place, and similarly it was 5th dimensional *humanity* who built the tesseract within Gargantua's gentle singularity. Its very likely that the reason 5th-dimensional humans sent the astronauts to *that* system -- to *those* planets around Gargantua -- is *because* its where the tesseract was built! Without which, none of the quantum data could have been relayed to Murphy back on Earth, and humanity could have never escaped their own extinction using 5th dimensional technology (manipulation of, or control over, gravity). Its true that in normal circumstances a black hole would be a very unlikely place for habitable planets to orbit, and would be a very unlikely place to call a new home, but these were *NOT* normal circumstances. Its even plausible that the 5th dimensional humans never intended the humans to settle those worlds at all!! They only needed to get Cooper to Gargantua for the successful end result
;) The first time I saw this film I didn't pick up everything despite loving it overall, but the more times I saw it, the more I understood its deeper layers, and the more it became one of my favorite films of all time.
Is it humanity, though? As far as I could tell, that was merely Cooper's speculation. There's no real evidence for that is there? They could be anyone/anything.
Well strictly speaking its true we never see the "Bulk Beings," but what we DO see is Cooper bring himself there via the tesseract they built for him, and subsequently speaking to his daughter through it to relay the quantum data, and as soon as he does so they close it down and send him back through the wormhole, implying heavily, along with the fact that the tesseract seemed to be exclusively feeding into Murph's bedroom, that he and his eventual connection with, and relaying the data to, Murph was the primary purpose of all that effort. And if you know anything about exobiology, or are familiar with the Drake equation, you know that it would be spectacularly less plausible for him or anyone to assume it was extraterrestrial beings who managed to find Earth, managed to understand Cooper and Murph's relationship, and who went to considerable lengths (wormhole, tesseract, etc.) to save humankind. Assuming it was God also isnt much better, as it gets us into "God of the gaps" territory, whereby historically speaking nearly *every* gap in our scientific knowledge has been used as a vessel for now-demonstrably fallacious religious explanations. In addition, it stands to reason that the quantum data, which we saw revolutionized our understanding of gravity in the film, served as the jumping off point that would foreseeably propel humanity toward the end Cooper speculated upon; that *WE* are the Bulk Beings, just not yet. The data discovered inside the singularity are the proverbial Oldowan tools if you know your anthropology (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oldowan#/media/File:Oldowan_tradition_chopper.jpg), but if that data is primitive - as in a mere whisper of the technological power that is to come - then the Bulk Beings are the eventual end; they're the 50-foot supercomputer to that data's Oldowan hahaha and its likely Cooper realized that as well and used it to draw his conclusion; remember his speech when he got back? "I don't wanna know where we've been, I wanna know where we're goin..." I've often pondered the possibility, in these words, that "God exists, and heaven exists, just not yet." That is, the proposal of God-like powers in all of our religious posits may not need to be taken so literally, and can instead be seen as a kind of artifact of human intuition; an intense feeling that those capabilities are possible, somewhere and somehow, but I've always considered them more plausibly realized by ourselves (or even alien species) and not by an almighty, absentee God. In philosophy we call em "Omniqualities." Omnipotence (All-powerful over the forces of nature), Omniscience (all-knowing; insight into every fabric of the cosmos, which for the bulk beings is presumably complete control over where and when they want to go), Omnibenevolence (all-good, though what is ethically "good" is a more dicey discussion), immortality, etc. We tend to see these things are far-flung, inaccessible states of being for humanity, but there are many who believe technology is racing us toward that point at an exponential rate thanks to science in general, and apparently Cooper is one of those people, having assumed, as you said, that the Bulk Beings are human. It *IS* true we're never given a satisfying confirmation of who or what they actually are, as sufficiently advanced alien civilizations are just as likely to end up with those capabilities as we are, but now we're back to the "How would an alien species be able to find us, understand us, understand Cooper and Murph, conclude that they - being a spectacularly more advanced species - should *help* us as opposed to use us an livestock, etc." Even within NASA there was the starting assumption that they were aliens until Cooper made it inside the tesseract and garnered a different perspective, which could have been a point of further mystery and conflict in the film (who was right? Nasa or Cooper?), but apparently Nolan felt that definitively showing us one way or the other was unnecessary for the story he wanted to tell to. I tend to side with Cooper however. Its more plausible for me to assume the quantum data are the proverbial Oldowan tools; a whisper of the technological splendor that awaits in humanity's future. In real life, a lot of this stuff hinges on how humanity handles climate change and if we survive this sixth, human-caused mass extinction event if you wanna know the brutal truth! Hahaha
This is what I love about the internet. You have all this science available to you. You could just check the latest science discoveries while eating breakfast.
Tyson is great at explaining something so complex to a lamens term. He breaks everything down and makes it simple to understand what goes on in our universe. It's awesome.
Argumentum Ab Auctoritate: One of the weakest forms of argument. It doesn't matter if Neil DeGrasse Tyson says something or my two-year old nephew. Truth is truth. Neil DeGrasse Tyson can be wrong, my nephew can be correct, only the truth of the statement matters.
David Benner Is it an argument from authority or asking people to show they possess the necessary skills to make a valid and informed argument against the points being made here? Argument from authority would be: Dr Tyson said it so you are all wrong. Whereas many here are calling the points made by a person who possesses the necessary skills wrong. The name of the person as you say is irrelevant, however many try to make it relevant. Here is can be argued it is, as the person involved obviously has the skills to make informed statements. Rebuttals to these points could be incorrect or not, but if the dissenters do not possess the skill sets to make informed statements about a VERY deep subject, the likelihood they are correct is quite low. It is a fair question to ask others to prove they possess the skills, which could be demonstrated by having a degree. I know for one I do not have them. I do the same boiled down reading like the rest of us do. The two seem similar, but they are not.
David Benner is there a fallacy defined by the act of someone identifying fallacies as the sole means of diminishing an argument? i see this all the time from kids who just took philosophy 101. science is filled with assumptions. they are humanities best assumptions from people who know more about a subject than anyone who doesn't study professionally.. but they are still assumptions. the fact that scientists assume things doesn't mean your 5 year old nephew's ideas hold equal weight to the leading scientists in a subject. people who dedicate their lives to intensively studying a physical science are going to be able to avoid the initial logical pitfalls that every layman will make. tl;dr you're nephew is a dumbass child while tyson is pretty smart
mank demes yes, it's the fallacy fallacy. It says you can't conclude that an argument is incorrect just because the speaker committed a logical fallacy. However, he is correct that the OP used an argument from authority. Yes, tyson is a very knowledgeable person about the subject but that doesn't mean he doesn't make mistakes and people can't correct him.
Ricardo Amendoeira I dont know. Argument from authority is a fallacy, yet what if you are a layman debating that authority, especially with such an advanced field? It would be like me debating operating procedures with a neurosurgeon. Your chances of being right do exist, but they are vanishingly small.

It's like a sliding scale - the body needs what it needs. Think of food - when you are not huingry you don't want anything to eat. When you are a little hungry you are still fussy. When you are absolutely starving you can smell food from a mile away and will devour anyting. Women need mental stimulation I(man with more money than her to be preciws) whereas men only desire pysical qualities. A well proportioned body and reasonably symetrical face. Take this as a futue lesson for when you get married - deprive a man of sex and he will naturally look elsewhere. Dont become spiteful when he does.
Lesson 4: The longer you have been married the less sex you probably get. Neil de grasse probably isnt getting any so yh he definitly wants to explore that hole.
Lastly wanting to and doing are two different ttings.
The way he explained the waves in such a simple way that I couldn't understand before but now do just blew my mind..."The tide doesn't come in, we rotate around them"

She is flirting with him, but he keeps it cool and scientific throughout the interview. I just like seeing it. This is what life is all about. Enjoy life everyone.
to me, it seemed like Neil was flirting with some of his touches, those might have been touches of an unconscious man while he is talking about his interest ( I do this mostly, yes, to females, a lot ) but nonetheless, maybe it just seemed to me this way.
Oh my god, I thought I was the only one who noticed that! They were both into each other (but I think Neil is married - uh oh!)

She was like, "There's no way you can know how it's going to end."
Anyway, I thought it was a phenomenal film, from multiple points of view.

I see passion everywhere in this video. Tyson talking about science and the movie so passionately. And interviewer so passionately learning on the spot.
I recently found a potential solution to the, "Why would the only viable planets be near a black hole?" complaint, because all that question really reveals is a misunderstanding of the plot, as recall,
*SPOILERS*
it was 5th dimensional *humanity* who put the wormhole there in the first place, and similarly it was 5th dimensional *humanity* who built the tesseract within Gargantua's gentle singularity.
SystemFreaKk13 I approve this comment.
I approve this aswell.
;)
The first time I saw this film I didn't pick up everything despite loving it overall, but the more times I saw it, the more I understood its deeper layers, and the more it became one of my favorite films of all time.
"I don't wanna know where we've been, I wanna know where we're goin..."
I've often pondered the possibility, in these words, that "God exists, and heaven exists, just not yet." That is, the proposal of God-like powers in all of our religious posits may not need to be taken so literally, and can instead be seen as a kind of artifact of human intuition; an intense feeling that those capabilities are possible, somewhere and somehow, but I've always considered them more plausibly realized by ourselves (or even alien species) and not by an almighty, absentee God.
It *IS* true we're never given a satisfying confirmation of who or what they actually are, as sufficiently advanced alien civilizations are just as likely to end up with those capabilities as we are, but now we're back to the "How would an alien species be able to find us, understand us, understand Cooper and Murph, conclude that they - being a spectacularly more advanced species - should *help* us as opposed to use us an livestock, etc."
Even within NASA there was the starting assumption that they were aliens until Cooper made it inside the tesseract and garnered a different perspective, which could have been a point of further mystery and conflict in the film (who was right?
Exactly hehe.

For those of you trying to correct Neil deGrasse Tyson, please, present your astrophysics degree and not your Wikipedia link.

Yeah for real...no famous married dudes have ever cheated on their wives.
I was thinking of this same shit man! Lol
DAVID BAKER you checked the facts it is some science right there congrats 🎈🍾🎉!
I'm sure she would give him time in her space.
rlly niguh
very good.
man I want to travel to the center of that black hole, if you know what I mean ;)
I wonder if she would mind if i was to ask her if "I could enter Uranus?"
Hot Potatoes hahaha!
I'd pay to watch Neil play Bioshock Infinite.
He will have a heart attack XD
ive never played Bioshock or seen much of it , im generally a RPG loving person , but since i found it in the comment section of this video i might try , coz are you saying its science heavy and stuff ?
Nah it's not. It's imaginative but from a science standpoint it's very inaccurate and makes up most stuff. I'd rather you play the original Bioshock with the underwater city tho.
I think Bioschock Infinite is a masterpiece, though I haven't played with the original, but I really prefer the sandbox-like sunny, beautifully grotesque environment in Infinte to the slightly claustrophobic, darkish one in the Original. This is definitely subjective.
Infinite' story is awesome and the action is great too if a bit repetitive, but it's is almost as innovative as bullet time in Max Payne
play bioshock infinite. if you like crazy sci fi based stories, you will LOVE bioshock infinite. its not too hard of a game, and if you are feeling overwhelmed, you can just try a lower difficulty.
This video does not deserve to be 360p quality.
Watching this high at 1am in 2020 😂

I wish I had deGrasse as my high school science teacher. His explanation of how tidal waves work was wonderful. And the girl clearly wanted DeGrasse
"Can I have a hug coz my brain hurts". She's so cute ❤️
Ah she is haha!
I just love Neil, 😂 such a great personality. Hes talking about an astronomical event and a everyday event blowing my imagination up and then he says " ...well fine." 💓
Who's watching in 2018 and not being able to sleep after what he said about the tidal waves?
2020
while i watched the movie the first time i knew they were tidal waves made by gargantua only, because i know why the tide is forming by our moon

This is pure gold. I am freakin out right now. Stunning! His way to explain is incredible. And the pure possibility that we could "visit" a black hole some day/minute/second/etc...
At 10:44, he's showing her whats going to happen after the interview lol
He thought about it here: 0:12

Kaiogiovanni haha I didn't even notice he said that after haha. That whole 45 seconds is sexual
I like how NDT is visually trying to explain something, with hand gestures and general body actions. It's like he's seeing exactly what he's explaining ☺ The way the lady is following that is absolutely epic!!!
He is the Louis Armstrong of Physics... an absolute treasure. G*d and the Universe bless this man
love the way he explains things, anyone could understand it, and love his positive energy . Just bought his book, cant wait to read the shit out of it . much love Neil
Are u in a hurry

The interviewer didn't understand a word Neil said and neither did I, yet I loved every minute of this interview.
And so did she, trust me.
