  • Located at 9800 feet in a forest of lodgepole pine, Geneva Park Campground has 26 campsites not far from Geneva Creek.
Getting there: Guanella Pass Road is paved from Georgetown (I-70) to Grant (US-285). The campground is located on the south side of the pass.
Hiking: Burning Bear Trail & Abyss Trail are 2 miles south. Shelf Lake Trailhead is 2-3 miles north on a dirt road. Mt Bierstadt, Colorado's easiest 14'er, can be reached from a trail at the top of Guanella Pass.

I always enjoy your detailed recons. This particular campground is a special place for my girlfriend and I because it is the first place we camped together back in 2010. Unfortunately we just took a trip up there this weekend in July of 2023 and discovered that it was now being managed by an extremely rude host. We simply drove into the campground to check the availability and found it full. In these BLM campgrounds, it is typical procedure to go look for a site, select it, then proceed to the pay station. Once we discovered that the campground was indeed full, we decided to quickly use the outhouse before leaving, since we had been in the car over an hour. When we came out of the outhouse, a very rude woman on a golf cart approached us and informed us that we were in a fee area, we had to leave immediately, and we were not welcome to use the outhouse. She also stated that we were lucky that she did not charge us a $10 fee. Please keep in mind that we were actually on the campground property for less than 5 minutes in total. We were completely taken aback by this because, over the 40 years that we have been camping at BLM campgrounds, we have never experienced a rude host and certainly have never been kicked off of the property or told we couldn't use a public outhouse. This woman was completely out of line so we initiated a formal complaint. This is very sad because the place has so many happy memories for us. Has anyone else had a similar experience recently at this campground? I would be interested to hear your stories.

That's the 2nd complaint I've heard about a camp host this month. I think the other was down in SW Colorado. I don't understand why anybody who's job it is to be helpful would act that way. Hopefully they aren't re-hired after this season

@@CampgroundRecon Yes I totally agree. Hopefully the management company and the forest service review the compliance seriously.

I really appreciate your videos of campgrounds. Makes it so much easier to see what they are like before going there so that we can make better decisions on where we would like to go. Thank you!

Glad to help out. Our frustrations from bad campsite selections got us started with the early videos on this channel

I can not recall if this was the one we stayed at in 2018. I recall being at the very top next to a trail head. I have a photo for the Geneva creek, Geneva park campground and Duck creek picnic ground. I recall there being some of the big rocsk and stuff along with driving up the trail to the top of the mountian and there was a lake/pond/runoff water areas at the base of the treeline then it all rock from there.

Guanella Pass Campground (18 sites) is on the north side of the pass and Geneva Park CG is on the south side.

@@CampgroundRecon I guess that would be it then. The north side has the rough trail you can drive up to the top? The south side does not? As If I recall that was the only road up there.

Thanks for this! I have a reservation later this summer for #19, and I was wondering what it would be like for my 19' trailer. I'm so glad you pulled into it!

I appreciate your time and effort making these videos. In the future could you make a shortness comment in regard to fishing around each campground when fishing is available?
