  • Bob Andy cried on the morning he was alone at Studio One and the melody of I've Got to Go Back Home came to him while he played the piano. Find out what made Bob Andy cry in 1966 as he heard the riddim for the very first time.
During and interview with the Jamaican Gleaner Bob Andy said the song was produced at a time when there was much fascination with Marcus Garvey's efforts and early Rastafari thought of repatriation. However, "though Rastafari spoke of repatriation, I did not see the physical reality. This did not negate the fascination. The dream was wrapped up in the process", Andy explained during an interview with the Jamaican Gleaner.

Bob Andy has to be Jamaica's finest ever composer!
'The Bob Andy Song' book is undoubtedly one of the best Reggae albums ever made!
If you collect reggae music & you don't know this album then you must have been living in the twilight zone!
If there are any artists looking for good songs to cover then check out his publisher for his song catalog!
Respect to you Bob I still feel the fire spreading!
    Max Blessings

and make sure to cover songs NOT on Studio One or Mrs. Pottinger's High Note because he's not getting his fair publishing revenues from those people

Have 2 copies of *"I've Got To Go Back Home",* still one of the finest early rock steady tunes ever. It was the Wailers who backed Bob on this track (Bunny Livingstone and Peter Tosh) and it has since become an anthem, although Bob would touch upon this subject once more, again for Coxsone Dodd with *"Going Home"* which would go on to become a classic riddim. So sad to hear of his passing. *Rest In Power,* Keith 'Bob Andy' Anderson.

Big, big respect to Mr Keith Anderson. This is one of his finest late ska early rocksteady tunes, with the harmonies backed by the Wailers.

Much Love to Bob, The world and especially peoples of colour and of course the poor everywhere are still in shackles, but now so many have realized it, we try to break free. Awareness is the first step. Unfortunately the system is set up to keep us enslaved. Rich people pay cash, poor people pay interest. People are starting to leave the system for 30 or 40 years now, go a bush and grow our own food.
Nuff respect, Ellie Grennan (Winston Grennan, my late husband played on some of Bob's, and Bob and Marcia tracks).

Such wisdom and over standing. I Got To Go Back Home was way ahead of its time. Only The Wailers, Prince Buster, Clancy Eccles and Vernon Allen had recorded Roots Ska before Mr. Andy.
