Me, too. I am glad to know there is another late comer. It just read his book The Art Detective and enjoyed it. I'm from a tiny town in Washington State, USA, but love learning English history through art.
I am absolutely and overwhelmingly enjoying this series. Thank you for sharing. Stay healthy and God Bless to our cousins across the pond from Sarasota, Florida, USA. 🙏🇺🇸 🇬🇧 And please share in our joy in celebrating our new President Joseph Biden and VP Kamala Harris as we hope and pray for the healing of our nation.
Ok better two years late than never at all. Speed watching this wonderful series. Fascinating subjects, what a lovely diversion. Information is power, each of of us knows today a little bit more than we did yesterday.
I must look up what was so terrible about Eric Gill's character. I have some Rolf Harris prints but I still love them as much as I did when I bought them despite knowing what he did.
We have been watching an episode every morning with our coffee, and it is a lovely treat. Good to hear about Eric Gill today, love his work. Thanks to you and to Oliver and stay safe.
Your love for your beautiful home with its' wonderful art and each piece's history that brings it to life is evident and absolutely inspiring. Thank you for your wonderful series during this time of self isolation. May you, your family and your country stay safe, happy and healthy.
Thanks so much,I came upon these miniature programs quite by chance and such a pleasure. Over time in your tv appearances, you have enriched my life and understanding so much. Now as an ancient, I’m doing solitary, painting very iffy watercolours,, which fills my time, just hope the virus finishes before I run out of paper. Enjoying seeing your collection and the house.Such a kind thought to do this.
I was fascinated to hear about the connection between Gill and W H Smith and son Ltd. I worked at the Weston Super Mare branch in the 70's and was always fascinated by the arts and crafts lead facade on the front of the building which featured carving in the official font by Gill. It read, "Come and take choice of all my library and so beguile thy sorrow" (from Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus) The store was built in 1926 and formerly had a lending library on the first floor. The building has recently been declared Grade ll listed by DCMS. Thank you for showing us where it all started!
Have just rewatched this episode and it was the daffodils, the real fire, Cedric in his basket which struck and made me think what a lovely welcoming home you have Philip. The artwork, of course, adds to it and makes it unique. I am waiting until my brother in law is able to come and visit and help me put my paintings up and make my house into a home.
I will echo what so many have expressed before me. Your sensitivity, insight and empathy toward the art that you love, as well as your home and it's history, are invaluable. You produce these videos, welcoming the world into your own home, and I am truly grateful for your generosity. All the best to you and your family from Maine, USA.
Pleased to meet you Oliver! I won't disturb Cedric, he would not appreciate it. Thank you Phillip for the piece on Gill. I though that the Virgin and Child was early Romanesque and was astonished to learn that it was modern. Fabulous series you are creating. It is helping so much Jenny (Oz).
Oh lovely Cedric lounging there and that fabulous informative and insightful Eric Gill lettering was exquisite Philip....you are exceptional and thoughtful for letting us into your gracious home thanks to the wonderful Oliver ...Bravo e Grazie 🌿🙏🇬🇧🏴⭐️
Thanks, a very nice start to the day in Oz. I thought I was going to spend the rest of it reading about Eric Gill, but didn't get very far on Wikipedia and at "and dog" I decided I didn't need to know much more about him. From that time period it is hard to go past the Doves type font for absolute beauty.
The one thing that I would save in a fire would be my great grandfather’s hand carved wooden book that he made and stored his diary pages in during his time in the First World War. It is such a treasured object, and the eyewitness accounts of a cathedral being burned to the ground in France, and a shooting at dawn by an Irish soldier for desertion is absolutely priceless and irreplaceable. Thank you Philip, for uploading this series of informative glimpses into your private collection of art.
Fascinating. I have often been to Ditchling ( where Eric Gill lived). Wonderful gallery there. I have seen Gill in a new light now. I am lucky to live in Rottingdean ( home of Edward Burne-Jones and William Nicholson) - another artists' colony, like the one in Ditchling! Thank you for another enthralling programme - especially to charming Oliver ( behind the camera). I am learning a great deal from this marvellous series. Thank you so much.
I love these Art in Isolation pieces! They are charming, lovely, beautifully crafted. Thank you so much for sharing your artwork and home with us, and the interesting and amazing stories that accompany it all.
Hello from the U.S! Just catching up to your mini-vids that I'm really enjoying. I was particularly taken with the gorgeous lettering piece. The simple elegance and grace of each expertly carved letter is wonderful. It would have a "pride of place" in my home too. And love seeing Cedric...what a sweetie...and your beautiful, full of art, home. Thanks for sharing👍
I am sooo enjoying your presentations! The freshest most beautiful content I have seen on the internet in a very long time! Many Thanks! Joe from Long Island..
Hello from Brussels. Really look forward to listening to your soothing voice and learn from you as I take a break from concentrating on (trying) to write my final art history essay for the OU. Thank you, you are a real antidote.
Greatly appreciated 🙏father and son..Gill reminds my of that other great unique italian artist who gave us gold statues..maybe you know of whom I speak and who lived around the time of casanova . Marvelous
Thank you for highlighting Eric Gill a very influential designer and artist. Attending art school in England during the late 1960s he was an important of my studies in typography and graphic design. I've enjoyed your series and fully appreciate your motives for collecting such interesting pieces.
Loving these episodes.Im finding I can step away from the world truly relaxing.Cedric is a beauty and i love how he seems to have a basket or blanket in every room.Thank you x
The letter J, a Letter for the Ages: while researching the letters of my initials P and J for a new logo, I was drawn to both Illuminated manuscript scripts and scripts from the middle ages. I discovered the letter J did not appear in either. They used the letter I as in Iesus. The J first appeared in 1424 but was not in full use until the 17th century. I am glad Eric Gill carved an alphabet containing both P and J (and PM & Co). Cheers, PJ
I have thoroughly enjoyed this video series thus far (having only just found it), this is my favorite episode because it is about letters and lettering
I’ve always wanted to take an Art History course. Now I can listen to your many shows which are much more interesting! Love your enthusiasm for all things art!
Such a wonderful series! I really look forward to each episode. It is all the more enjoyable to tour your house and garden, and to meet Oliver and Cerdric. Thank you!
I helped set up an exhibition of Gill's work in Oxford many years ago sponsored by British Gas, not a man you would have asked to baby sit your child or for that matter look after your pet dog! As a stonemason/letter cutter however, I can appreciate the exquisite quality of his work so thank you Philip for this most interesting presentation.
That calligraphy is just fabulous. Incidentally I think I am just about the only person who uses that italic lower case 'f' in my normal handwriting - the lower extension providing the naturally pleasing 'S'. Nice to know PM appreciates many art forms.
Sooooo refreshing! Thank you, One of you a day, and one of Patrick Stewart's daily sonnets ... a day. Shows from the archive of Sadler's Wells, of Opera North, of the National Theatre. Basta. No more front room concerts or kitchen based ballet dancers. Just you and Sir Patrick. The rest thrives of a continuous 'vampiric' cycle of desperation between the viewer and the viewed. P.S. I made up, "vampiric". :_))
I like these shows, I am fascinated with the house's history, it would be great to trace the Manor back to the Norman occupation and its metamorphosis into its current state ( which is charming)
I have always believed lettering is the pre conscious process of words. I'm a potter and love to use lettering. Pleased to meet Oliver and Cedric. thank you for this
I am just finding this, February 2023. Thank you!!
Me, too. I am glad to know there is another late comer. It just read his book The Art Detective and enjoyed it. I'm from a tiny town in Washington State, USA, but love learning English history through art.

You are so kind to do this series for our at home education and entertainment. Thank you! I'm really enjoying it!
I would not want something in my house that was produced by such a monster. I could never look at it with any pleasure.
I must look up what was so terrible about Eric Gill's character. I have some Rolf Harris prints but I still love them as much as I did when I bought them despite knowing what he did.
Awesome effortless knowledge and expertise . This is a glorious mini series. Thank you
How wonderful you are warning a loose foulard. This the flair we need tee from a British gentleman
. Thank you!
Thank you too Oliver, it is a joy to watch these presentations and your Dad's enthusiasm about these interesting works.
It is a beautiful, possibly, statuette of the Virgin Mary. Exceptional explanation of the letters plaque in which each letter was romanticized.
Thank you once again for another insightful and entertaining episode. I'm enjoying these!
September 2022.
If nothing else, we can thank lockdown for Philip’s wonderful videos. They are addictive.
❤️🐕🦺❤️
A wonderful series. Enjoying it immensely
This series is a joy to watch. Thank you very much.
We have been watching an episode every morning with our coffee, and it is a lovely treat. Good to hear about Eric Gill today, love his work. Thanks to you and to Oliver and stay safe.
Greetings from Vermont. What a delightful episode. I look forward to all of your presentations, tours, and lectures. Many thanks.
And greetings to you from Sarasota, Florida 🙏🇺🇸
What an exquisite little mother and child sculpture. Timeless. One of the few things I would treasure and keep if I owned it.
Your love for your beautiful home with its' wonderful art and each piece's history that brings it to life is evident and absolutely inspiring. Thank you for your wonderful series during this time of self isolation. May you, your family and your country stay safe, happy and healthy.
Thankyou so much for your insight and knowledge I feel privileged to be able to listen to you as you share your knowledge and expertise with us all.
I look forward to each episode. Enriching. It's like a friend dropping by for a casual, yet informative, chat. Lovely.

Thanks to you once again and thank you to Oliver for the great camera work. Art in isolation is making our enforced home stays much more palatable.
Thank you for your kind words, we hope that you are staying safe.

Brilliant presentation. Richly informative but with a light touch too.
wow!!! What a. gem of a programme. Excellent, thank you for bringing us joy in these dark days.
My son has recommended this series to me and I have been catching up. I’m hugely enjoying this tour of your wonderful art collection. Thank you

Letters are a beautiful phenomenon . Cursive Art . Relaxing to the soul .
O! Loved it, your voice is really calming and I wish this video was longer , really enjoyed the tour, thank you for letting us into your home 🤗❤️
If I had all the money in the world I'd live in a house just like yours. A beautiful simple cottage filled with glorious works of art.
I will echo what so many have expressed before me. Your sensitivity, insight and empathy toward the art that you love, as well as your home and it's history, are invaluable. An absolute joy. Thank you Philip.
Oliver! Nice to meet you too. This is truly such a treat! Very uplifting during isolation.
Oh I do love lettering. Hi Oliver. Such a handsome chap like your father.
You are a national treasure for the UK and a treasure for the whole world . Thank you for sharing your insights on art. 🐶☺️🙏🎨
A WORLD Treasure 🇺🇸 🇬🇧 🙏 🌍
Yet another elegant video...so interesting! Thank you.
"Interesting" is a dangerous word to use when describing art.
Am thoroughly enjoying your Isolation series, thank you so much from an art lover in NZ. Have recommended to many art loving friends.

That was lovely. My granddaughter is learning to write. I will show her this and give her a new light on words and shapes.
Love from Bulgaria, Philip. Keep uploading those beautiful episodes, we all need them :)
Thank you ! im enjoying the light easy going style of these videos .
Thank you, both!

As a stonemason/letter cutter however, I can appreciate the exquisite quality of his work so thank you Philip for this most interesting presentation.
He was a pedo
There is no evidence Gill ever targetted a single child. His daughters were like 15 years old when he had sex with them.
Thank you for these interesting vlogs.
That calligraphy is just fabulous. Incidentally I think I am just about the only person who uses that italic lower case 'f' in my normal handwriting - the lower extension providing the naturally pleasing 'S'. Nice to know PM appreciates many art forms.
I know I'm late to the party but I just found this series. Gill is also a font choice for Microsoft Word...makes so much sense.
Sooooo refreshing! Thank you, One of you a day, and one of Patrick Stewart's daily sonnets ... a day. Shows from the archive of Sadler's Wells, of Opera North, of the National Theatre. Basta. Your videos make isolation so much easier. The house is just magnificent.
Fascinating, looking forward to tomorrow’s instalment!
Thank you for joining us James!
I like these shows, I am fascinated with the house's history, it would be great to trace the Manor back to the Norman occupation and its metamorphosis into its current state ( which is charming)
You are a joy to listen to.
Interesting presentation on Gill's calligraphy as an entrée into the early 20th century's brief return to Classicism.
PS thank you, Oliver!
A simple "Thank you" from Minnesota. You've invited us into your home and we appreciate it.
Thanks Philip, Eric and Cedric ! Really enjoying these :)
How fantastic are these videos. Thank you
Thank you, Janet!
I am a graphic designer by profession. I have always enjoyed “Gill” typeface. I love the classic form of his typeface.
I have always believed lettering is the pre conscious process of words. I'm a potter and love to use lettering. Pleased to meet Oliver and Cedric. thank you for this
Lovely to be introduced to Oliver and Cedric is a delight to see each time, be well from South Oz 🇦🇺
