First time that someone took the actual material and leaned it against the mixer valve to make it easier to visualize and understand for diy'ers etc. Even for the pros too! I see mixer valves wrongly installed aaaaaaall the time. Besides the depth setting I would say maybe even more importantly to set it level/plumb with your finished wall tile. If that is not done, and again - I have seen horror examples, one would have hard time installing trim. And if trim is not installed snug and proper, first- it will look like doo-doo, second most probably you'll have a leak and thirdly to correct that you'll have to break all your work.
