  • Hey there, I made another one of my Let's Play-style videos and it sort of relates to my last Game Show Review since it was about the 1990s game show "Click" hosted by Ryan Seacrest, who will be taking over as host of "Wheel of Fortune" in September. The game in question is the 1997 Nintendo 64 version of "Wheel". Let's get ready to buy some vowels and win some unfortunately not real money.
Also, this is the first appearance of my new intro for "The Nerd Nest", which is now the name of my channel.

I really like this version of WoF. GameTek had made game show adaptations for years, and (as noted) this was one of their last ones (unfortunately...). It was pretty accurate, the control stick action (especially with rumble) provided a really tactile feel like you're actually spinning, I like the video and voice clips of Vanna, and the pacing was really quick without unnecessary animations tacked on (like when Vanna moves across). Another thing making the pacing quick was that the wheel portion more or less flowed like the show. You spun, and when to a show-accurate pan then close-up of the wheel, with no slow back-and-forth action to a specific wheel graphic in another slide. I also like the show-accurate theme swapping you get (cities, mountains, cabins, etc.). Another one of those nice small touches is the crowd starts going bananas when you spin with more than $9,999.
My only real complaints are the over-emphasis on Times New Roman (appropriate for ye olde puzzle board, but not the digital one), and maybe a few prize wedges like Surprise would have added some flavour. But otherwise, this is probably my favourite game adaptation of Wheel (including more relatively modern ones like Wii, Xbox 360/1, Switch, etc.).
