at 2:57 there comes this sound just before they go in to the really heavy riff. im just curious anyone know what its called and how you make that sound, is it just an effect in the studio or can you do it live? :)
You can do it live. Its just a sub drop. You'd have to sample it and trigger it. And have a bass subwoofer that can handle it at a live volume. Many bands are using this now a days to make that accented hit really crush.

I used to be a massive metal fan but have been out of the loop for a long time now, what are the main bands I should be checking out? Any recommendations?

Someone should use this for marching band as the Zombie Apocalypse since almost all of the marching band competitions are artsy-fartsy, and our marching band hardly got to state
i liked it its good hard hitting brutal death metal. That big boom sound in the song is killer but a lot of bands are starting to use it and i think that will probably go away real soon
From a musical standpoint, none of them are really that talented. The drummer is playing very straight forward standard beats, and the guitars are playing extremely simple rock riffs, with the occasional solo that is straight out of a beginners guide to scales. The musicians in this band are okay, but definitely nothing special, especially when compared to just about every other metal band. Which is really sad, because their tattooed guy holding the microphone and grunting into it is horrendous. That's the most monotone growling I've ever heard. I'd rather listen to somebody passing a kidney stone to a beat than listen to these guys, at least there would be some attempt at melody in that. I propose that they change their name to "Unfathomable Urination", which is what I thought it said at first.
