  • In this brief 1984 video philosopher and theologian John B. Cobb Jr. - then-director for the Center for Process Studies - interviews theoretical physicist David Bohm on key dimensions of his work. Discussion topics include: the ways in which Relativity and Quantum theory shattered classical 19th century physics; Bohm's interaction with Einstein, Bohr, Pauli, and Oppenheimer; how Einstein disrupted earlier scientific world views; time; the radical implications of quantum theory; the whole/part relation and quantity/mechanism distinction in Bohm's work; the implicate order as source of infinite possibility; religious and ultimate meaning; the problem of separation and social/ecological ills; human connection to animals and wider environment; and the untenable distinction between the secular and the sacred.

Thank you so much for allowing us to see this amazing content. The newer generations need real icons like Prof “Bo”. He has become a inspiration to me and I would never seen him if you guys didn’t share these with the public. Thank you, thank you 🙏 this video / Interview is going to resonate into future history for some many generations.
As Wikipedia says “one of the most Significant theoretical physicists of the 20th century.”

Dr. Bohm's conversations with J. Krishnamurti in "The Ending of Time" are an excellent complement to his work on Wholeness and the Implicate Order!

Just acquired that one a few days ago. 👌 Good to know.
Read many Bohm books, but first with Mr. Krishnamurti's next.

The whole unfolds into parts and parts enfold into the whole. Everything enfolds into consciousness and consciousness unfolds into everything. If we understand that we are all the same as the whole cosmos, there will be no duality, separation, discrimination.

@@TheLuminousOne If a human can break through their attachment trauma & practice pendulation self /co regulation & move into awareness of consciousness within the breath it is no longer about how many lifetimes.
The lifetime question is yet another self-limiting construct.

    Genuis genuis genius.
But too often seeing him breaks my heart! The most beautiful human being, the most gentle soul, the most beautiful mind... crushed by awful depression. Wronged by some of his traitorous colleagues during his life, a man who stood fast and never betrayed anyone when the government came searching for communist names, a man of honour, genuis, gentleness, kindness, depth...how I wish he could know how greatly he is admired, missed, respected... How I wish he hadn't suffered so during his life!

This Bohm interview I've nicknamed "Bohm Unleashed"!
IMO, he's "extra present", compared to any other interview of him I've seen so far. I love his hesitations, especially because they show how deeply he has to reach into his non-verbal grokking of his profound vision in order to share it with us mere mortals using the inherently limited toolkit of words! (I'm guessing the cameraman [or video editor?] sensed that as well.)

This is amazing. ' Thought unfolds feeling , feeling unfolds thought ' & Bohm knew this in 1984 ? That's amazing.

Have you listened to the Bolm video "What Really is Happening on Planet Earth;"
it seems that he was able to summarize many of his hypotheses for the non scientific viewers. Listening to that video brings calmness to me. I definitely understand his brilliance from that discussion. It's truly the logical explanation of life that makes sense to me. I give it ten stars! :))

@kirstinstrand6292 Thought~~in terms of logic, ordered sequence of notions, evaluation and analysis ~~occurs mainly in the prefrontal cortex. It turns out that a part of the brain called the limbic system is connected to the prefrontal cortex. In this connection, it's possible for thoughts to influence feelings and vice versa.

When hearing him talking, it is clear that Bohm struggled to simplify his thoughts and ideas to such an extent that even a top researcher PhD professor could understand them.

    • @yoya4766

He was very good at simplifying. However, he suffered with depression. When he wasn't well this affected his speech and clarity.

A book titled Bridging Science and Spirit: Common Elements in David Bohm's Physics, The Perennial Philosophy and Seth by Norman Friedman would be a great expansion to this tip of the iceberg stimulating conversation.

Waves cannot abstract and attribute to themselves an independent existence of their own. They are folded into the Ocean! So it would be stupid for a wave to experience the Ocean, this wholeness it is an intricate part of. Unless the illusion of Ego ceases in each one of us, there is no redemption. We live in the past!

That was a strange ending. 😂 David was like “ we are facing a fast approaching catastrophe……”
The interviewer was like “ okay, thank you. See ya” 😂😂😂
What the heck. Let’s hear more about this catastrophe!
Now here we are in 2023 facing potential nuclear war with Russia, oh and CO2 levels in the atmosphere are catastrophic, oh and soil erosion near catastrophic, warming ocean , etc etc.
We are near the end folks. Make each day count. Love one another now

Thank you for a most important observation! I am sharing this with John B Cobb, Jr. for him to respond with an update on how at the age of 99 in April 2024 he is continuing his legacy leaving contributions, through several organizations including the Center for Process Studies and most recently as Chairman of the Living Earth Movement (LEM). The nonprofit organization was established to promote international cooperation, peace, and climate solutions, particularly between the United States and China. One current project is publishing a sequel to the 50th anniversary edition of Is It Too Late? A Theology of Ecology, 1 of his nearly 60 books. The tentative title is It's NOT Too Late IF We Take Action NOW! and each chapter introduces positive, creative, and practical actions individuals, organizations, communities, and nations can take toward climate solutions.
