I myself really like IU's album entitled "Love Poem", The songs are like a collection of poems strung together into a song, the lyrics are very beautiful. She has many songs with good lyrics and deep meaning. In my opinion...Actually, I'm a little disappointed because currently Korean music seems to have lost its identity. Most of today's popular songs seem to be created to gain validation from westerners. Many popular songs have good beats but the lyrics are very strange and don't make sense.
IU's ability to convey subtle emotion makes it possible to appreciate the song with no knowledge of Korean. But what makes IU special is the way she treats each phrase of Kim Sowol's poem like a jewel, polished musically & vocally to express the poetry of each line. This is what makes her own songs exceptional too. And this performance of By the Stream is what got me into translating her lyrics!
