An excellent film … thank you !! It really captures the essence of Wainwright 👍🏼😄 Some beautiful scenery, music, and interesting interviews too … nice work 🎥
What a great great film Cameron. Concise but full of interesting highlights; insightful, revealing, warming and a very considered look at the man behind the guides and drawings. Brilliant and really enjoyable. Thank you!
What a fantastic production, Cameron. You pieced all the elements together seamlessly and told a wonderful story. I am proud to have been a participant in your journey.
Gained a subscriber Love the walking the wainwright series And looking forward to more Currently on our own journey Up to 25 so far with our little cocker spaniel Beau Mainly hoovering up stuff on the outskirts and saving the more famous ones till the end. Content to be fair weather walkers as we like to spend time on the summits and enjoy the views. Lucky to live in Windermere so it’s on our doorstep 😊
Excellent presentation and use of old and new material. As a child, our family moved close to Lancaster and looking across the bay I always wanted to be up in the hills, thanks to friends who used the Wainwright guides to introduce me to fellwalking. Later Dad took me to a book signing in Kirkby Lonsdale where I briefly met him in person, but was too shy to speak much. Having moved around England and Wales a fair bit, it is now great to be just outside the western edge of the Lake District. His work - writing, drawings, maps and diagrams - will continue to stand as a unique achievement.
fantastic video. what charming humble man. totally agree the ideal number for hiking is one with much respect however i do disagree on his comment on my favorite place in the peak district. he said something along the lines of. nobody loves bleaklow all those who get on it love to get off . I love bleaklow but it’s all personal preference.
Hi Dareen, it's from a special edition of a BBC One programme called "Coast to Coast" presented by Eric Robson. I believe it aired only once in the late 80's, with the footage kindly provided by Chris who I interview in the film.
Interesting how many people think of Wainwright as a kindly, nice old guy, but when you read his biographies you realize he was grumpy, selfish and treated his first wife Ruth and son quite badly, neglecting them to spend all his spare time on the guidebooks. Then having an affair with Betty his second wife, while he was still married to Ruth. I understand he didn't even leave anything to his son in his will.
❤❤❤❤❤

I was in Holmrook last weekend, went over Burka fell, loved it
Fantastic chap a true gent. So humble and clever, his pictorial guides are my favorite books, rip alfred.!
If you read his biographies, especially the one by Hunter Davies, you would realize he wasn't a 'true gent'.
@@TheDavecroft Having researched extensively and worked with direct sources, not everything in the H.D. biography is accurate.
Ive just read my first AW Book - A Pennine Journey. Im now a fan. Great documentary

Can I ask where the footage of AW being interviewed comes from, don't think i've ever seen that programme

And all without the aid of a North face jacket
