    I love your videos. IF you have E6000 glue available there, it's an excellent choice for gluing on hangers. I live in Florida, also very hot, and have had the hot glue slip a bit and fail but E6000 never fails. They also have a version without the odor here, which I totally love.

    ever considered implementing EL wires and fiber optics? I love color changing effects but since EL wires are of solid colors I came up with this idea. Pull black heat shrink tubing over el wires alternatively. Let's say 12" over red, then no tubing, then 12" over blue, ETC. Then twist EL wires and glue them together. Now when EL wires are hooked up to separate controllers in the slow on of mode what will happen that different colors will show up in areas where the tubing is present and a mix of colors will show in areas without any tubes.
    I wonder if I made myself clear. It is clear in my head but probably confusing for others :-)

    Oh please don't use hot glue to hold that beautiful thing. I was going to hang some wonderful old plates & was told to use E6000 glue instead. I'm so glad I did. I used hot glue for some beautiful lapis blue fish plates and they fell off the Wall, they were only plastic. I knew then they would not have held my ceramic plates. You can get it at the Dollar store or order it online. Walmart has it too. I believe if I put some on my shirt and threw myself against the wall, I would stick there forever.

    • @SueFindlay

      This idea was to give a solution to avoid the colours running into each other. Resin doesn’t stick to silicone, so is good to use to create freeform shapes.

    This is really interesting. Glad I found your video. I watched a video where someone had used this epoxy material for creating the lines. Can't recall what it is called but it is like a rubber that dries hard. Instead of using the epoxy material I thought I would try using the glue gun just like you do. I find it is the best method for making geodes. :)

    Very well done video! I have a couple of questions for you, but, let me say first of all that I am a "newby" I have a large sheet of safety glass about 20" by 50 ". I have been thinking about doing something similar to your process, but, using the safety glass instead. My thoughts was to break the safety glass with a hammer and then separate it into containers and try to dye it. If it will take the dye it would give me a lot of broken colored glass to do something similar to your process. My question is do you have a suggestion as to whether the glass will take dye and what kind of dye and where do I get it?? Thanks!!

    • @SueFindlay
      @SueFindlay  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      My first thoughts are that the safety glass will be sharp when broken and can cause issues when cleaning the art. To avoid this, you will have to make sure your glass is submerged in resin, which can cause it to 'disappear'. I normally use shop bought glass, as it doesn't tend to have sharp edges. You can colour glass with inks and dyes, I am not an expert at this and usually, add the inks to the resin and then mix it in with the glass. I use a stick to fully coat the glass. You can use any inks or dyes (from what I have been told). Good luck with your project. 💕

  • @OlegMarch

    Can silicon from a tube be used for higher borders?
    If epoxy is poured in layers then crystals wouldn't sink and also crossing different color epoxy layers can produce an interesting effect as well
    IMHO

    • @SueFindlay
      @SueFindlay  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Silicone can be used to create freeform shape geodes as it is easy to remove due to it not sticking to resin. For that reason, I don’t think it work well between layers of resin.

    • @OlegMarch
      @OlegMarch 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Silicone is just for the outer borders. @@SueFindlay

      I generally don't do geodes, as everybody is doing them. Although, I have created a few in the past. I personally don't worry too much if the colours blend a bit, I like the movement. When pouring, I do leave a gap between layers and let it sit for a bit, before pouring colours in between, or move them closer using a stick to guide it.

    • @SueFindlay
      @SueFindlay  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Alejandra, thank you for your enquiry. I wouldn't recommend using Alcohol Ink, as it can move the resin and could produce unexpected results, unless, it is those kind of results you are after. I believe that Alcohol Ink fades quite quickly, so this another reason why I wouldn't use them. You can use other types of ink, like acrylic ink. Good luck with your search for ink.

    Can make it this on regular canvas or on glass or on mirror?

    • @SueFindlay
      @SueFindlay  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Personally, I wouldn't use canvas, glass or a mirror. I only ever use wood or some kind of board. Resin on canvas can cause it to sag, there are many people who use resin on canvas by supporting the back to prevent sagging. However, you can get other issues with resin not sticking to the edges of canvas if it has been primed properly. As for glass and mirrors, I have heard from many seasoned resin artists that glass can shatter over time. The main reason for this is due to the resin heating and expanding at different rates to glass. So in short, if you stick to wood, MDF or any other hard surface, you won't go too far wrong.

    • @SueFindlay
      @SueFindlay  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you 💕 I have used a cheap acrylic paint. You don't need an expensive paint for paint the base colour, because you are going to cover it with glitter etc. as for the glitter, I also used a cheap craft glitter, I prefer the fine glitter over the chunky stuff.

    Hi i like your simple and easy to understand tutorial. I would like to know what is India Ink? Any ink that i can substitute? Can i use Flourecent Pen? Turns out elegant. Any mixture in your paint ? I be using black magnetic plastic board. Do i need to prime with gesso before using hot glue ?

    • @SueFindlay

      India ink is an ink from India. It comes a variety of colours. I have also use acrylic ink and many others have used alcohol ink in resin. I have never used a fluorescent pen, so can’t comment, sorry.

    Hi Sue. I'm a new subscriber and LOVE this video. I have resin that I need to use before it yellows but have been quite intimidated with the process. Seeing your video has sparked my courage!!! THANK YOU 💕! I was wondering as I watched this video if this would with on stretched canvas.

    • @SueFindlay
      @SueFindlay  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am delighted that this video has given you some inspiration to get creative. I would not recommend using a stretched canvas, as the weight of the resin and stones will cause it to sag in the middle. I suggest using a board, it can be a wooden place mat, just like in the video.

    I am so new at this that my first Geode is still being developed in my head. I loved the information you shared in this video, very informative. I am wondering can shared shell pieces be used in resin? I have some very beautiful ones I was thinking of incorporating into a piece, they are very iridescent and soft pastel colors that would work with the color pallet I am thinking of using.

    • @SueFindlay
      @SueFindlay  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't see why not. You can use all kinds of items in resin, your only limitation is your imagination. The absolutely best way to find out, is to give it a go and experiment. Good luck xx

      Thank you, it was a while since I did this, so can’t remember the actual colours. It was more about creating a barrier to stop the resin from running into each other. I am not sure about using glass colours. I think if they are oil based you can’t use them.

      As I am only using a thin layer of resin, it doesn’t overheat, so doesn’t melt the acrylic.

    Can this be done on a canvas?

    • @SueFindlay
      @SueFindlay  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wouldn't recommend pouring resin on canvas, it is quite heavy, especially with stones. The canvas would sag and stretch in the middle and the resin could pull away from the edges and not leave you with a nice result.

    • @lisarosman3080
      @lisarosman3080 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I personally haven’t tried it, but I saw a TH-cam video of someone creating a different resin geode on canvas with stones. She inserted cardboard within the back of the canvas frame to provide more support & stability
