    윤여정: Youn Yuh-jung
The Academy Museum is honored to present a retrospective series of Youn Yuh-jung, an irreplaceable, one-of-a-kind actor in the history of Korean cinema, celebrating the remarkable array of work she has crafted over the fifty-plus years of her career. Since her film debut in Kim Ki-young’s Woman of Fire (1971), Youn refused to compromise her practice to serve the patriarchal systems which dominate the majority of mainstream cinema in Korea. As an iconic figure and role model to many actors in Korea, Youn continues to push boundaries in her incredible scope of storytelling, routed through her bold and forthright perception of each character she portrays. Presented in part by a grant from the Korea Foundation, this series highlights the diverse range of works that contribute to Youn’s timeless cinematic legacy.
