      Some directors, once they get a take they are happy with, will shoot an extra take and allow the actors to improvise or experiment with the scene.

    As for people who interested in directing, I cannot recommend you enough books "Sculpting in time" by Tarkovsky, "Bresson on Bresson" and "Notes on Cinematography" by Robert Bresson, Ingmar Bergman books as well, and in general, pay attention to the "Film d'auteur" theory and such.

    i really love that bit with PTA. Id like to share i little nugget of knowledge ive been carrying all throughout my career: tell what you know. you can never go wrong with telling stories that you already know. nothing pretentious about it, its just you sharing what you know and what youve experienced.

    Noticed a lot of directors back then dressed so professionally on set. Wearing full suits must have been a hassle on sunny days.

    I would add more about trust and collaboration, they seem to be highly important for a director (and giving credit to the people who deserve it is just as important)

    Thanks for the video, IDC! I think one of the hardest things and most misunderstood elements of directing is working with actors. There’s a great book called Directing Actors by Judith Weston that I highly recommend to anyone interested in this role

      @@inpursuitofhappiness4873 yeah that's a rarity. I'm currently reading Francois Truffauts Hitchcock and that really does it the opposite way talking about films in a way more large scale way in regards to their holistic impact

    Hi I am always interested in directors and their role in making a move good or not.
    Without being specific do directors get a weekly wage, or a set fee, and do they get a share of any profits?
    it must be hard trying to wonder where your next job or pay check is comiong from.

      I think a better way of saying things, would be thanking the video creator for bringing up talented directors... Doesn't matter their gender or race, all that matters is how good they are... Really strange comment you wrote. And it's funny, because, implicitly, your comment seems to put whatever their gendrr/race above their craft, their hard work, their talent.
