not only that , using "personal wealth" to run your business is not ideal. You're best starting with a pocket of change and having that as your turnover. He's essentially moving his assets into the business in order to distinguish his personal finances from his business finances.
all youtubers are selling because the car market is at its peak right now and will burst next year once new car production gets back in full swing. Tavarish is selling 15 cars and Hoovie is selling 40 cars.

no, he really has to sell all these cars on display to raise 100k... i mean .. lets say there are 20 cars - thats 5k per car. who would pay more than that?
He's got his family sorted, he's not wanting to jeopardise that, and he's trying to earn money off a passion. Considering the amount of people selling cars at the minute, I don't think many will be wanting to use his business and can see it sinking

My choice of a Psychiatrist is not because YOU actually need one, but YOU can´t seem the see the problem YOU have and what
it reveals about YOU and Hammond. His is much more obvious. The question to ask one´s self is "Why do people have what they have?" Then ask "How strong is their, "NEEEED`", which they usually call, "Passion"?
I wish YOU had a friend with no particular interest in cars or some one who liked cars and had one, to read through all of this to see and explain why I am commenting as I am, The overall thing YOU do, so well for YOU is to put YOURSELF with Hammond.
Then with ALL car lovers, as if you ALL are the same. Then YOU use three words that actually put it over the top: Love, Heart, Soul.
Can I assume YOU are a religious Christian?
@@wordwarrior2350 here's a better question. Why do you feel the need to push on ME that I have something of an issue. You know nothing of my world, not my love of cars. Buy whatever you want, just don't drive like a fool.
He appears to be a very genuine and honest person. Wouldn’t mind having him as a friend. Wishing the best for whatever venture you look into!
I must admit I am surprised that after all these years, Hammond would need to sell anything to have money for a business.
Ikr. I dont think that is the real reason.
there's no way he is actually running out of money, right?
@@Dave-mv1yk I think its more he doesnt want to touch money he has put away for his family.
He’s selling because he doesn’t want to spend his legacy money on the business so he’s spending his own money ie his cars
To be fair, he's had to have at least 2 new bodies grown in a lab after crashing. You'd think he'd have ordered a taller model...
He’s parting with one hobby to fund another. He’s not poor or broke, he’s smart as there’s no guarantee that his business will make a profit.
Except there is a guarantee though, like Clarkson with his farm, he admitted without Amazon money his farm would never turn into profit. Just like this venture, Discovery money alone would help his business to stay afloat.
And annoyingly boring.

And it was terrible.
Out of all media personas doing all out sales - Hammond's reasoning is the one I most approve of
Would love to see the rest of his collection if these are the cars that he is able to bring himself to sell
Being able to follow Hammonds journey as he sets up his business on here and on his new show is by far the best thing anyone one of the 3 top gear lads have done since the show ended.
Love pretty much everything each of them has done, but the fact that I’ll watch May make sandwiches gives him the lead for me.
Easy to sell, hard to re-buy Richard :(
It’s sad to see these beauties go under the hammer
Very very true!

That Esprit is gorgeous!
The passion he puts out in anything he does he'll be fine . Can't wait to see what he brings next!
Hammond’s love and passion for vintage cars really touched me. Can’t wait to see the workshop!
Hamster, I can say that your sacrifice is a noble one, but many of us understand the hitch of letting go of such pieces. I believe the opportunities to again collect will come around. Here is to your success. Cheers
My wife bought it for my 40th, I adore it!!!!
Hammond is willing to give up his classics to save and preserve them for the future generation, respect were it’s due.
What are you on about?
I swear, the fact that he was straight forward with us about why he was selling his cars and motorcycles makes him just that much more likeable.
@Lassi Kinnunen 81 Regardless...most of us who restore cars use our disposable income to do it. It becomes dodgy when we dip into funds we didn't budget. So it's all relative. I don't know what this man's expenses are, or where the other money, no matter how much, is allocated. But this selling of his collection does represent having to sell in order to pay, versus this notion that there's an unlimited supply of money...just like the rest of us.
He's a great guy. Doing the right thing. Very watchable and knowledgeable chap. Hope it all works out.
We suddenly seem to have a lot of money managers in the comments, all of whom being well versed in Hammond's personal finances. Fascinating.
I know!
I was amazed too...
I didn't know finance was so popular with the youth.
Was thinking the same thing! The reason he gave seems totally reasonable, if he wasn’t being genuine, who cares it’s nothing to do with us.
He was wealthy prior to the amazon deal, and it’s rumoured their pay went up substantially following their exit from the BBC.
100k is not a lot compared to his historical income so the logical explanation is that this is all for drama.
Congrats Richard, looking forward to seeing the results of relinquishing the vehicles you love, and the fruits of your labor. I love restored classics when they're done right.
"Chasing Dreams " ..to actually transcending to "Riding the experience" ..."this is the way"
Thank you for the motivation !
That Esprit brought back a memory. I was asked to work on the LAST one. It blew me away that the firewall (behind the driver) was actually plywood!
IMMENSE RESPECT!!!
As a lifelong entrepreneur and fellow car nut, I can only say a heartfelt "Congratulations Richard!!" on your new venture. I don't know you (even though you've been in my home well over 100 times over the past decade or two) but I do know what it is like to build something from blood, sweat, and literal tears!
Congrats and I hope that those drinks were as strong as your convictions man!!
That Lotus... You are a strong man to be able to sell that car. I shall quote Richard Hammond for this one. "I want that car more than I want both my lungs" I really hope whoever got it takes amazing care of it..
Absolute respect for selling up . However if Richard had sold some of his watch collection he would have made more

The new generation doesn't want watches, dad has been collecting pocket watches for years
Shoutout to Hammond for making this sacrifice for his business. I can’t even imagine how hard of a decision this was.
The guy is worth $45M... He's not sacrificing anything.
The honesty is great, and part of why we follow these guys.
He picked the perfect time to sell them... It's hard to imagine the market being any stronger than it is right now for quite some time to come.
Jo, you are right.
He knows the time. That's why he sold them. Top Gear: Apocalypse
Exactly, that’s why all these TH-camrs are selling.
That is why he is selling. He could have easily not sold them. Everyone is selling now because of insane market prices
If it's such a great time to sell then get rid of them all and buy back when the market collapses.
very cool to see him draw a line between 'tele' stuff and this, also cool to see him kinda work through that with himself there!
Richard Hammond is a true leader by great example for sure. He sacrifices for smallest cog's team with selling part of his heart. Respect!

I noticed Oliver wasn’t in the auction, I would have been profoundly shocked if he had.
I think oliver would be too hard to part with, especially given a kadet wont fetch much

No way he'd ever sell Oliver. It's worth nothing and it means a lot to him. No reason to ever sell it.

I think Richard did a great thing to sell the collection and should sell the rest so more people can enjoy these classic art pieces, and it goes for all collectors to please enjoy the cars and pass them on to others so they can be enjoyed because pretty soon the electric cars will take over the world and it’s a shame these beautiful machines are collecting dust in warehouses!

Richard Hammond you are brilliant man. Best of luck for the future business. I have no doubt you will do well
Surely Richard must be richer than that.
Probably cashing out before the car market bubble pops
not only that , using "personal wealth" to run your business is not ideal.
At the end of the day, all cars are just things. They are possessions. They are built to come and go, whether down the street or to and from your life.

no, he really has to sell all these cars on display to raise 100k... i mean .. lets say there are 20 cars - thats 5k per car. who would pay more than that?
He's got his family sorted, he's not wanting to jeopardise that, and he's trying to earn money off a passion. Considering the amount of people selling cars at the minute, I don't think many will be wanting to use his business and can see it sinking
