I have plowed with many tractors and my favorite would be a 9000 series or a turboed 8000.The sound of engine lugging through clay, the low rpm torque is outstanding. We had a 8000 turbo charged which weighed around 10k lbs and it would play with a IH 6X18" plow in 5 gear high all day while maintaining exhaust temperatures around 10k degree's!
These Fords were 20% more to purchase than competition.Deere's were the only brand that commanded the same price. Dealers in early 70's could charge a premium b/c they were only allotted so many big Fords,we had to settle for a 8000 when we wanted a 9000.We had engine turbo'ed and had it tuned to 210 pto horsepower pulling a 32' field cultivator with a harrow behind it without exhaust temp problems. But had to turn it back to 180 b/c buttons in clutch kept going out every season.Factory Hp 101.
These were a good tractor in their day - most places only had 1 so it was an honour to drive it - normally reserved for the best or longest serving driver - if you found one today it would be a rare find as alot were exported & are worth alot of money - I assume your not a Ford fan ! Only tractor better in this era was the County version ( 1454 ) which produced tractive effort rarely matched even by modern more powerfull tractors.
Them were the days when your 2-wheel drive tractor could do the same job as today's 4 wheel drive tractors and pull a 5 furrow plough through tough soil !
You never heard a MM than those old very high cubic inch moline motors turning sloooooow were an absolute joy. Bit for pure sound a neighbor had a fw30 ford 4wd Cummins 903cu non turbo, you could hear that thing miles away. What a joy!
I drove one some years back hell of a tool. The gear box was a bitch having try not to shear the roll pin forcing it in gear but it would pull a house down.I heard it got snapped in half after a car t boned it.Shame
I bought a new 9700 with turbo. Still have it. Great tractor
the 9700 was even better,it was a work horse on a forage harvester,to see a turbo glowing bright red at night was awesume.:-)

ford 9600 is the best sounding tractor ever built.
