This was a watershed time for Stones, the end of one era and the beginning of the Mick Taylor one, while the sixties were great output, Sticky Fingers and Exile are the epitome of the Stones greatness, especially live.
What a band! Keith’s guitar playing is so brilliant. He has all those great riffs tho I’d say his master work is how he syncopates his guitar within the riffs he creates. He plays guitar as a percussion instrument, a solo instrument and a melodic instrument. NO ONE ELSE DOES THAT!!!
Saw them again live in July and Keith did a set of songs featuring himself on vocals and You Got The Silver was on point, the guy sounds great to this day. I was very impressed after going to their shows for the last 5 decades.
The best version of Midnight Rambler is on the album Brussels Affair. It was a bootleg but finally it was released as a part of Goats Head Soup Deluxe edition. Mick Taylor really shines and also the whole band. In fact the entire album is outstanding. Greetings from Brazil!
You Got the Silver is such a classic deep cut Stones tune. Keith’s voice is perfect on it IMO. Can’t wait to see your reaction to the last two songs on the album. Pure masterpieces.
The live version of this is friggin' killer. Mick Taylor saved this band and kept that Brian Jones (RIP) spiirt alive. I read a brief history of this live show at Madison Square Garden/Baltimore Civic Center (Get Yer Ya Ya's Out) - London recordings = 11/26-11/28/1969. It was said that Jimi Hendrix (RIP) was hanging out backstage at their (Madison Square Garden) show. @@MikeWalsh-f1g I agree. It seems like this was the ‘Keith’ era for the band from Beggars thru Exile when it was the ‘heroin’ era for Keith. Along with the vocal you mention here, Keith takes the first solo on live “Sympathy” on Get Yer Ya Yas Out. It’s so good it’s hard to believe it’s him. He was on his game in ‘69-‘70.
Gotta treasure Charlie's gentle lope behind and underneath everything, as a friend used to say, "don't forget to roll too". A factor missing sometimes from so much mere rock. I don't believe I knew that Keith sang '...Silver'; more pretty Keith songs? 'Coming Down Again'(been there), 'No Mistake'(lovely duet from his first solo disc), and always loved 'Salt of the Earth'. Also agree this is one the all-time greatest live albums, and this was my first hearing of 'Midnight Rambler' too. Love 'Let It Bleed' though too. Used to do the title track and 'Live With Me'. Would always chime in on Merry Clayton's part in 'Gimme Shelter' as needed at a jam. Oh, mem'ries.😢😅😊 🖖🏼😉🎶❤️🍁❤️✨️🕊

On either version of Midnight Rambler Charlie hits double time fills at random and when the tempo doubles he really hits double. The whole band was so tight. It was a great time for rock and roll.

this song has nothing to do with the "boston strangler." he actually says that in the lyrics. its just about a guy who likes to party late at night. this is a rarity in that the live version is better than the studio version. yes' "yours is no disgrace" off the "yessongs" album and johnny winter's version of 'highway 61 revisited" off the "captured live" album are 2 other examples of this. 'let it bleed" is the first of the stones' trio of excellent albums which is followed by "sticky fingers" (1971) and then "exile on main street" (1972). and if you include "get yer ya yas out" (1970) that's 4 excellent albums in a row.

Mick Taylor' influence on the Rolling Stones was undeniable. He chose to leave that band as he didn't want to die from Heroin addiction.

Mick Taylor brought back the jazz and pizazz to this band when Brian Jones (RIP) died.

Saw them in Oakland in 69 before I heard this album. Midnight Rambler blew my 15 year old mind.

The Brussels Affair version - I agree ... 4 or 5 days of the week - for the remaining days its is the Ya Ya's version.
1971 Marquee Club version is right up there too.
The 1971 Roundhouse rendition is superb. Arguably as good as the Ya-Ya's or Brussels version.
