    Long story short, I was looking for an HDMI audio embedder for this exact purpose when I got the long-shot idea of plugging audio into the VGA audio input jack on my TV. To my surprise, if I'm on the HDMI input of the TV with the c64+kawari plugged in, it shows the HDMI input and plays the VGA audio. Score! I wouldn't have believed it. It's a Dynex LCD 32" TV. More than likely, your video came up because I was previously searching for an HDMI audio embedder.

    A thumbs up just for the jump when you swore at it :o)

    Another timely video! I've had the small Kiwari for a while and just received my large one yesterday. Your video will help a lot in getting it rolling over the weekend.

      How did you make out with your large kawari board 🤔

    Another great video. Absolutely would love to see a video on the RGB side with this, as that's what I would end up getting this for.

    When tightening cable ties I often use some pliers to pull on it to make it all very tight easily. Twist slightly to get a better grip.

      I'd usually do the same, but these one's are pretty thin and easy to break with too much force

    Imagine this in conjunction with a TFT in an SX-64.

    I just bought a Facebook Marketplace find with a Commodore 64 (board # 250425) , 1541c, 801 printer, two Commodore branded modems, around forty games with original discs for the machines. All were in original boxes except printer. Inside the C64 had never been worked on with back clips still not broken and all internals checked out perfect. Bought new power supply as I found the 9v AC circuit bad. Previous owner had luckily not hooked up in thirty years. Also came with cassette unit also. Checked out with complete dead test kit and all passed 100%. Did not expect that. All cases had been stored in a house for the thirty years and there is absolutely no fade. The C64 and 1541c look like new inside and out. Looks like it may be a very low hour system !!! Was $300.00 usd a good price to pay?

      Looking like new, working and with boxes. Yeah I'd say $300USD is a pretty good price. Nice one 👍

    I had same issue with Dell monitor, wont accept kawari resolution. Philips 275E works without problem. But found workaround on Dell monitor, i used HDMI to VGA and it works great. Seems that HDMI audio embedder is not longer available on aliexpress, how much you paid, since they are pretty expensive as i can found online.

      Oh crap. I was going to order a couple more. It was $39USD, I'll have a search today and see if I can find an alternative.

      The HDMI audio embedder is now back in stock on aliexpress

    Yeah, not sure why the odd resolutions are necessary over the DVI/HDMI. Perhaps that is not set in stone for future firmware updates. In Adrian Black's kawari video, standard resolutions appear to be available over the analog VGA output. Of course, you will need to solder up your own header and connector for that, and it also is out of scope for this video. :)

    • @TheRetroChannel
      @TheRetroChannel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah it's a little odd, although I'm not sure if that display is telling me the correct info. According to the GitHub page it should be 845x526 for NTSC. Either way it's an odd resolution and certain displays will not like it. My order has now arrived from VGP so I'm going to play with the VGA output soon

    • @jdryyz
      @jdryyz ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, does a premade header/VGA connector exist from VGP? I was thinking I would need to piece the parts together on my own.

      Oh no sorry, I meant my Kawari boards have arrived from them. The Kawari's I've been using were on loan, so I didn't want to go soldering things to them

      They are a DIY project, you can find the PCB and more details here www.pcbway.com/project/shareproject/Commodore_64_Longboard_RF_Modulator_Replacement_e4743145.html

    Hello, would you prefer this kawari hdmi or the latest vicII diversity with the rgb adapter? Which do you think is better picture. Personally

    • @TheRetroChannel
      @TheRetroChannel  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Do you mean the LumaCode? They both have their strengths and weaknesses.
      Kawari is great as it replaces the whole VIC-II but the HDMI version outputs an odd resolution that certain displays won't accept. Also the standard analogue video signals benefit slightly due to less noise being generated. And it's easy to swap between PAL and NTSC.
      LumaCode may work out cheaper depending on what you already have on hand and how many systems you plan to use it with. HDMI compatibility is a lot better due to using the raspberry pi, which also allows for tweaking scaling and resolution settings. But you need a working VIC-II and you are locked to PAL or NTSC depending on your C64 region.
      I think both have their place and I don't really prefer one over the other so to speak
